So glad this was resolved. I get similar cysts as well so when I read your post the first time I really felt for you. I think you also opened a lot of our eyes to taking care of ourselves (I know you did for me).
I had one abscess on my lower right back and all the Doctor did was look at it, confirm "oh that's red", then circled it with a Sharpie pen. 2 days later I went back because it hurt. Again, she says "oh that's red and bigger" ... drew another circle around the circle she'd done before.
I was now looking like I had a Target logo on me.
2 days after that I was bent over in severe pain but I had a urologist appnt because kidney stones follow up LOL Well that Dr. said "hey what's this, lifted my shirt and said stay here". I literally heard him call a surgeon and said "hey are you busy - I'm sending you my patient and you need to take care of her NOW".
So yeah, I got put on a table, got a local, and a lovely big Dr. came in, held my hand and said "I'm so sorry but this is going to hurt, but it has to be done". So it was painful, but relieving. Afterwards he gave me a hug, and said "let me walk you to Member Services - you need a new primary care doctor". I found out a year later she was gone - and I really hope I helped get her gone LOL
I will say that the 10 days of unpacking and packing was worse than surgery, but everyone was so kind. I adored that surgeon and my urologist for being so kind. Its odd that you find the very best after having to deal with the worst.

Sorry you had such a rough time today. I appreciate your willingness to share and help others through your experience. I know many people who are legitimately fearful of Rx pain meds, and for good reason, but there are times when their use is totally appropriate and necessary. Hope you can get comfortable now and do okay with your next follow up.

Oh no I’m so sorry! I agree though, anytime I’ve needed pain meds staying on top of them is far more effective then letting them totally wear off between doses. Hope you are feeling better ASAP!!

Ouch! You must be so tender. I'd ice it to help with swelling and pain. I know heat helps draw circulation to area for better healing but I'm thinking of the pain right now.

I’m happy to see your updates. I wish you as painless a recovery as possible.
Pea confession- I don’t know exactly what an abscess is and based on this I want to know but I’m afraid to google 😳

Pea confession- I don’t know exactly what an abscess is and based on this I want to know but I’m afraid to google 😳 Here is a pretty calm definition—A skin abscess is a tender mass generally surrounded by a colored area from pink to deep red. Abscesses are often easy to feel by touching. The vast majority of them are caused by infections. Inside, they are full of pus, bacteria and debris.

That's a good PSA. When I had my wound vac I was told to take pain meds before each change for the first week and a half. As much as I hate pain meds it was much better than the wound vac change. OW! Rest this weekend and I hope you feel much better quickly.
