Wow, that'd have made my year to have that kind of thing happen. Whales are so cool.

Isn't this the "Russian spy whale" that "defected" to Norway? I think he was expecting a tasty reward after returning the phone and all he got was people wanting to pet him. I wonder what will become of him?

I wonder what will become of him? I believe Norway was hoping he'd be able to go back to the wild and thrive, but I think the article linked to the video said they are evaluating whether he might need to be relocated (I think it said to someplace in Iceland that will take care of him).

Somehow I completely skipped the word "phone" and read it as "whale returns woman accidentally dropped into sea"

that is really cool! I showed it to my DH, and his first thought was, "but the phone is ruined; you know that, right?" And I had to laugh- I mean, really?!? A whale dives down into the OCEAN to return the lady's phone, and the first thing you think about is the phone?!? Not how f-in' cool it is that a WHALE returned it?? I think the linked story said they might end up having to relocate it to a sanctuary in Iceland if they decide its familiarity with people / boats might cause it to get injured by not staying away from boats.

That is so cool, TFS! I too, hope that he stays safe and relocating him seems like a good choice in this case.

He probably downloaded all the data off it first and sent it to the Russians. This "nice guy whale" act is just a front.
