I vote Sunday because that’s when all the new weekly sales start for most of the stores. Maybe that’s why I detest our main grocery store chain in our area, they do these weird sales that run from Wed-Sun or something goofy like that.
I liked Volt’s description of a string having two ends, so does the week. When you “tie” the two week strings together you get a Sat-Sun “weekend.” That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!

Sunday is the first day of the week. Monday is the first work day of the week. In my head, weekends are like bookends— there’s one on each side of the week with the weekdays in between (like books.) So, in my world, the week is Sunday—Saturday.

then why is Sunday the day of rest and the day people go to church? The sabbath day is Saturday according to the Judaeo Christian. Both Jews and Christians rest on the sabbath (Saturday) and meet at church on the first day (Sunday). Exception is 7th Day Adventist who not only rest on the sabbath but also attend church on that day. so obviously I am an idiot when it comes to this, but then why did the blue laws make places closed on Sunday instead of Saturday? This is fascinating to me

Monday, and that’s how I’d expect planners and datebooks to be laid out, but calendars (the month-per-page kind) I’d be disoriented if the week didn’t start on Sunday there. Just because it’s always been that way. then why is Sunday the day of rest and the day people go to church? The sabbath day is Saturday according to the Judaeo Christian. Both Jews and Christians rest on the sabbath (Saturday) and meet at church on the first day (Sunday). Exception is 7th Day Adventist who not only rest on the sabbath but also attend church on that day. Jews go to services on Friday night (the Sabbath begins at sundown) and Saturday daytime. Not on Sunday. At least, the mainstream Jews I’m familiar with do. Maybe there are some groups that go on Sunday. Historically, Sunday would be a work day for Jews.

I'm a Monday girl. Dh is constantly confused when looking over my shoulder for vacation planning. He cannot wrap his head around the week starting with anything but Sunday.

I think about this way too often 😂
In my mind, the week starts Monday. But all my calendars start on Sunday.
I once bought a wall calendar that started the weeks with Monday. I hated it and went back to the old style.

I could never understand calendar makers putting Sunday first since almost all religions honor sabbath, which is the 7th day. A believe the 7th Day Adventists go to church on Saturday, because that is the last day of the week when you view a calendar. Yes, frustrating.

Monday. The Sunday idea seems to be due to religious history and so isn't relevant to me or a lot of others in 21st century.

I’m on the Monday bench too. Growing up, it used to be Sunday at home as the family was fairly religious but I’m not and as I got older and started work, Monday made far more sense to me. It was the day to get up and get things done, get things started, Sunday was a day for chilling. The Hebridean Islands off the west coast of Scotland used to be very strict on Sunday being the Lord’s Day, the day of rest. No public transport was allowed to run, not even the ferry to the islands, no shops, cafes, pubs could open, people weren’t allowed to hang out washing etc etc. I don’t think it’s changed much but iirc the ferry does run now. I’d not consciously realised that the calendar on my phone starts with Monday and the main computer starts with Sunday. The main computer one has always slightly irritated me to work with. My own weekend is currently the single day of Thursday as that’s the only day I don’t go out to work or look after the grandkids.

I had to really think about this.
I think the week begins on Monday but I can’t stand calendars that begin on Monday. I think I’m just too set in my ways to adapt to a calendar starting on Monday. They confuse the life out of me!!

The week begins on Monday of course. I used to use a planner that started on Sunday but I still would have answered that the week starts on Monday. Then I discovered another planner that's become my favorite and they start on Monday. It was a bit of a learning curve when I first started using it because I discovered than when I wrote something on say a Tuesday I'd just scan over three blocks without really looking up to make sure it was Tuesday....I knew it was because my old planner started on Sunday, so Tuesday was in column three. Well with the new one Tuesday was in column two since the week started on Monday. lol. Took me a few mistakes to get used to it. Even back when I was working regularly on Sunday (leading worship at a retirement community, and at a hospital) -- so Sunday was a workday for me -- I still considered Monday the start of the week. I would have just said that I worked on weekends.

This is fascinating to me Saturday is not the sabbath for Christians, at least not any of the mainstream ones except for 7th Day Adventists, For pastors and others who do church work on Sundays they often talk about "my sabbath time" and what they mean is the time they'll take for themselves to rest and play since they have to work on the Christian sabbath.

Monday is the first day of the week in my world.
Saturday and Sunday are both the "weekend", not the "last day of one week and the first day of the next".

Monday for me starts my week over again. I really dislike calendars and planners that start on Monday. Plus the older I get, the more I dislike change. Ha.

Also, dates are day/month/year Which is the correct way. Actually, that reminds me of a funny story..... I went to Hawaii with a couple of girlfriends when we were 21. We were there at the end of May / early June, and one of the girls had just turned 21 on 4th April. On our second night there we went to a nightclub, and the bouncer wasn't going to let my girlfriend in - her ID had the birthdate 6/4/68, which to the bouncer meant 4th June not 6th April. As it wasn't yet the 4th June, he thought she was only 20. We tried to explain to him that in the rest of the world the dates are DD/MM/YY but it wasn't until I showed him my ID that had 22/09 that he believed us and let her in. In other calendars that split the weekend up, it always messes up the aesthetic to highlight weekend plans. Saturday and Sunday should be beside one another on the calendar. Yes, exactly! I manage the bookings for a beach house owned by the staff club at my work, and I always make sure I download a calendar that has Saturday and Sunday together at the end. The person who manages the bookings for the other house was using a Sunday-Saturday calendar, and it really messed with my head when she would do the weekend bookings that were on either end of the calendar.

I'm in the US, in my world it starts on Monday. I ignore the fact that planners and calendars start on Sunday Me, too. I'd love it if all calendars started with Monday, so the Saturday and Sunday were together.

Sunday--all the calendars show it that way. No, not all. Most American calendars do for sure. But this is yet another example of how the US is out of sync with the much of the rest of the world! Lol. I buy Moleskin planners. They are an Italian company. Their calendars start the week on Monday.

However, not all Christians rest on the Sabath. In the Catholic tradition, and we are also Christians,Sunday is the day of rest which is why traditionally many stores used to close on Sunday. In some European countries, I don’t know if all, calendars have the week starting on Monday. Regardless, it is always Monday in my head.
