i have never been fired before. challenging personality that i am reporting to. there is no one else in the office to ask when i have questions. it's kinda been sink or swim after 3 weeks of initial training with person who had been there 10 yrs. i have been there 4 months. from his perspective, some of his concerns are valid. i have made mistakes. but i was honest about my background and skillset. i don't have direct industry experience but related industry with *some* crossover knowledge. however, i have never made the same mistake twice. i am open and receptive to his feedback and implement immediately changes in how he wants me to address things. if you have been fired and saw it coming, did you feel better after or worse when it came to fruition?? thinking i am kind of okay with it... other than the fact i *need* this job of course...

I’m sorry. That’s a horrible feeling. If what you think may happen does indeed happen, I hope something even better comes along very soon.

When I lost my job, it felt awful (and still does sometimes), but overall it was much healthier for me to be gone from that environment, and I don't know I would have left it on my own. However, that situation was one where I was blindsided by my boss *and* a coworker (which hurt even worse, to be honest).
In two other cases where I had bad bosses (one of whom started about a year after I did and the other one I ignore my gut instincts about), I got out before they could get me.
Maybe if you aren't fired tomorrow it might be a sign to start looking elsewhere, either in a different department or with a different organization.
Good luck!!

If you do end up on the chopping block, it is fair to ask questions IMO...what could you have done differently (given you were up front about your skillset), etc....it may help you in the next position.
Also, ask if you could stay on temporarily while you look for another position (with an agreed upon end date)...would give both you and them time to look for something else.
I hope tomorrow is nothing but good news!!

Maybe they will just put you on an improvement plan or something. I've only seen people fired before the weekend, not on Monday

What makes you think this is coming? Did something happen at the end of last week?
I really hope you are just a little stressed and overthinking this. But if you are let go, keep your head up. You tried something new and it didn't work. Thats ok. You will do better next time.

Maybe they will just put you on an improvement plan or something. I've only seen people fired before the weekend, not on Monday From an employer perspective, it’s actually better to fire someone on a Monday because then the person doesn’t have all weekend to be angry and stew over it and they have the whole new week ahead to immediately start looking for something else. OP, I hope you aren’t getting fired, but if it was me I would ask for my final paycheck at the time they let you go. At least in the past if a person got fired and asked for their final check, by law the employer had to give it to them on the spot. Check your state laws to see if that applies to you.

The company where I used to work, the writing was on the wall. Several rounds of layoffs, no innovation, no new products. It was just a matter of time for it to be my turn. I got myself a new job before I was officially laid off, but when I put in my notice my boss did tell me he was glad I found something else because I was the next to go.
I’m sorry you’re going through this, I hope you get an improvement plan but if I were you I’d be getting my resume together and be prepared to file for unemployment.

I’m sorry you are going through this. I would think they would put you on a formal improvement plan before they would fire you. Either way it’s probably a good idea to look for other job opportunities. Good luck!

I'm sorry if it does happen.
If it doesn't.... do you know ways or ideas how you could suggest improvements? Don't play the blame game, but realistic ways you or the company can make this work?
Either way, I give you hugs. I'm really sorry. That just sucks. However, it doesn't sound like a good fit and you need something that makes you happy. Go get your happiness!

If you’ve only been there 4 months my guess is they would not put you in a PIP. If you do get fired don’t blame yourself - not everyone is a great fit for their position - and really it is there fault for hiring someone not fit for the position. Don’t ponder it over think it just move on to something that is a good fit for you (and there is a lot out there!)

I was in the exact same boat.. I was working at my daughter's school. I worked up front as the registrar.. It was all new to me. Training was a year long. I felt comfortable enough but it still was all new and I was learning it. Made a few mistakes along the way, never twice. Never was written up, no improvement plan, no complaints, nothing. I did go into a manager's office on a Thursday because I had issues with a co-worker. She sat across from me. Her 'job' was to yap and gossip about everyone ALL day long. And everything was an emergency (stuff over the phone).. and her daughter LOVED to come to the office for 'water for the teacher' or this, that and the other. So finally I had it because I was doing part of her job and I was stressed enough from my own stuff. The next day I got fired. They said I made too many mistakes. EH? Yes I made a 'few' mistakes, nothing that wasn't earth shattering or done twice. I was devastated because I had NEVER been fired in my life. I learned later she was made Office Manager. OYE... (funny thing is she is no longer there.. not sure why, as she was there a long time. The school got a new principal and I have a feeling he didn't put up with her antics) As I look back working there was toxic. And although it was hard to swallow, I am glad I got out, even if it wasn't on my own. Good luck!!! I was fired but in the long run it was for the best!! It might take time for you to see that!! It did for me!

I was fired...once...and it really messed with my head. It was rough because it was during recession time as well so it took me a long time to find another job.
But the guy I worked for was such a jerk. In looking back, I think he hired me because of pressure from someone influencial and he didn't like me so he set me up to fail. In hindsight, I can see how stressful the job was for me. I wasn't happy there.
So I know if you're fired, you will feel down on yourself, but overall, it might be better for your mental health.
Hugs, I know that job insecurity is the last thing you needed right now.

I was laid off from a company I'd worked for for 12 years. The last 8... I hated my boss. Genuine hate. But I did my job and I was damn good at it. Ironically, that's what got me laid off. He put an unscheduled meeting on my calendar, had a corporate HR lady there, it was a Wed morning. I was notified I was laid off as of Friday. Hit me like a ton of bricks. Best thing -ever! I have been at my current place for over 4 years. I LOVE the people I work for and with. The company I work for is so much better and more professional, and truthfully, I'd probably still be miserable at my old job if I didn't get laid off. It also helps that I recently hired one of my old direct reports who filled me in that my old boss literally got a FEDEx envelope letting him know he was fired (not laid off.) I won't lie, it makes me do a little jig

He did them for me no problem, but warned me people will copy them anyway.

I’ve been thinking of you today and hope for the best outcome for you, whatever that is. Toxic work environments are so draining, miserable and unhealthy. But financial security is so important too. So whatever you need most today, I hope you get.
I was in the same position you are, coming to the end of my probationary time and knew my boss didn’t like me. She did let me go, lying on the paperwork, but it was really for the best. I knew that and didn’t fight to keep my job (though I did make a note on the paperwork). I didn’t raise anymore of a stink because DH also worked there and the building administrator was unprofessional to say the least. Anyway, I stopped breaking out in hives every day, my eyes and lips stopped swelling, and I didn’t have to go to the minor emergency for a shot due to my throat closing anymore so it was definitely a good thing for me!

Yes, I was let go from a big telecom call center and it was one of the best days of my life. I was miserable, but it was so hard to leave the pay and benefits. They were really, really good. Which is why they were trying to close the office and hire more offsite contractors at a third of the pay and horrible benefits.
I was off on six months unemployment in 2006 and found a job picking packing/mailing for an online scrapbook store the last week my unemployment ran out. A few months later a friend called with a job tip and I'm still there, the pay is almost comparable and I have way more vacay time (insurance is just ok). But things worked out for the better.
eta - good luck whatever happens
