Gmail has decided to sort my mail into groups that I NEVER, NEVER, NEVER wanted nor asked for. You can eliminate that by clicking settings (cog icon), configure inbox, and uncheck everything (primary remains checked by default).

I have had a yahoo email since 1994....however it began with a SWBell account, which switched to yahoo. When I thought that yahoo would go away (some merger or another) I opened a gmail account. Most of my emails I keep with the yahoo account. I prefer the yahoo. Gmail has decided to sort my mail into groups that I NEVER, NEVER, NEVER wanted nor asked for. Most of the time I can find the message, but sometimes it is gone into cyberspace. I think the admin should NOT be deciding how to group messages 'cause it is not what I want. Also, gmail seems to delete the trash when gmails wants. yahoo does not delete messages out of the trash until 2 years have passed. Sometimes I want that very old message. You can change all of those things in your settings.

I have gmail but still have my old aol account from 20+ years ago. My kids make fun of me about that plus the fact that I still pay around $5 per month for it. That was because way back, AOL had a scrapbook message board and I wanted to make sure that I didn't lose it.

I use Zoho and LOVE it. My name was already taken on gmail in all the ways I could think to have it, and I didn't want to add some random number or be cutesy. I like an email that is simple and without ads. I don't like a lot of clutter on the page. I hate my comcast email with a passion--only have it because we have comcast for internet/tv. Zoho is simple and has a fabulous calendar that I find incredibly useful. I have it set up with a dozen or two folders to easily organize my saved emails by subject, and I have a bunch of filters set up to prevent spam from getting through. The app works great on my phone, too.

Gmail has the most seamless use , but Istill use my aol.com from the 1980’s, it’s still available and free AOL.com emails are free now? I wonder if my old one still works!

Yahoo. I’ve used it forever. I don’t understand gmail. Me too. I don’t know how to use Gmail, but I’ve never used it. I’ve used Yahoo! Forever without any problems or concerns. Tons of storage, you can create folders, and I don’t get much spam there either. It works great on my iPhone, using the mail accounts.

I have two accounts. I use gmail for all of my personal internet use and icloud for my work contacts. I have no complaints about either of them.

You could also set up rules and/or aliases to manage this within one email account. To manage what? the 25 reply-alls? lol. One of my pet peeves. Also, I have no idea how to do something like that. With gmail at least, you can create pretty much as many aliases as you want. Say your email was monklady@gmail.com you could make an alias by adding "+" and then the text you want after "monklady" and before the "@" like this: monklady+mailing@gmail.com for your mailing lists monklady+church@gmail.com for your reply-alls then you can set up rules/filters so that, for example, anything that you get which is sent to monklady+mailing is automatically deleted, anything sent to monklady+church is marked as read and moved to a specified category, etc, whatever you choose really.

Gmail. There are so many other google products I and my friends/colleagues use (google drive, forms and calendar, to name a few), having a gmail account just makes things seamless. This is my biggest thing for gmail. I was a cub scout leader for awhile. With gmail I could put pictures on my google drive and share that file with parents. Then if parents wanted any of the pictures they could copy from that. If they had gmail then all they needed was my shared with them, but private with others link. If they didn't have gmail I could share it with them, but it often wasn't seamless. I can do signups on google sheets where people fill in their names. The regugee group I am with has a lot of info we need to share with each other. Using the google sheets, docs and drive makes it so easy for us. I am able to filter email any way I want. I've set up filters for ads - so if our family wants pizza for pizza night at our favorite places the email skips my inbox so it doesn't clog it, but I can go to that folder and find pizza coupons for the night. Same with my "grocery" or "restaurant" folder. It is a huge email time saver for me, but you can keep it as simple or complex as you want.

Gmail will do this automatically for you if you choose the tabbed inbox. I have my regular inbox which is mostly person to person emails. Then the Promotions with all the store adds. I just search for the store I'm going to. Then the Updates tab which has emails regarding any accounts I have ie Amazon notifications, my banks, receipts from online stores, etc (note these are only emails about my account or purchases not advertising emails). And the Social tab that has notifications from social media or groups like here. You don't have to tell it what to put where it just does it! The biggest thing I had to learn was to utilize the powerful search function. I don't sort anything into folders (but you can if you want). I just do a search with keywords, sender's name, subject or combo of all the above. Such a time saver! I also like the star options. You can choose different colors if you want to help differentiate emails and sort by stared emails too.

Wow thanks! I never knew any of that, lol. I guess I should explore gmail a bit more because it would be nice to go to only one place instead of checking two or three every day.

You can choose different colors if you want to help differentiate emails and sort by stared emails too. I don't like the way gmail does it automatically. I like to break the promotional/ads down further for one thing. Also there are some promotional or social media things that come in that I want to go straight to my inbox. So I'm glad for the feature for some people like you, but I'm also glad you can delete the way it does it automatically and do it the way you want for people like me. I also use the search function, but find there are times when it is better to use a folder. For example, we just went on vacation. I set up a folder with the "United kingdom" and then sub folders such as "London", "Oxford", "Transportation" and further subfolders of "Plane", "Rail" etc. The majority of email stuff I do is on the computer so it doesn't automatically download to my phone. If I leave it the way gmail does it and do a search for "delta" then it will pull in ALL delta promotional things, social media things (from the travel blogs I follow) and my plane ticket info. If I am having to access that over very slow data that can be a real problem. By putting it in one of my trip folders I can access it by wifi before I leave or pull it in much faster over data. I have several things like this where my own folders work, much, much better than gmail automatically does.

Gmail is the best of the free ones, as long as you don't mind Google knowing every damn thing about your life and targeting you with ads based on that knowledge Of course, all of the other free email providers do the same thing - or sell your profile to others for marketing purposes - so if you're going to stick with free, know what you're signing up for. I didn’t realize that there are paid ones. Are they better than the free ones?
