We ate at Carmine’s then had cheesecake at juniors and loved it.

We stayed at a place where you could see the Roosevelt Tram from the window. We used our subway/bus passes to use it. We had kids with us and they thought it was kind of cool. I remember that we went to a coffee shop and a Duane Reed store while we were on the island. I would not go out of my way to go on the tram but since it was right in our neighborhood it made perfect sense to go on it.

We did the on/off bus last time and saw the Statue of Liberty and went to Top of the Rock for the view. Saw most everything in Time’s Square. Did Ellen’s Stardust diner (wasn’t impressed). OMG - me either. I don't get the love for that place. At all. I think the tram is an interesting and fun ride, but literally ride it over and back and be done.

I took a look at the Groupon posted by MichyM. The prices are better than the City Bikes that are all over Manhattan.

MOMA is closed for remodeling and not reopening until October 21. ![](http://i1168.photobucket.com/albums/r481/2peasrefugees/Smilies/sad.jpg.gif) It's disappointing to miss the museum, but the MoMA Design Store is still open and I love poking through there. DH's favorite gift from NYC is the ceramic version of the iconic NYC coffee cup.

The vessel you have to walk to the top, that’s a no for me. Even though tickets are free they sell out in advance. I was fine with a picture from the sidewalk of the stupid thing,
I’ve always been curious about the Roosevelt tram.

I don't recommend the Roosevelt Island tram unless you have a particular reason for it. The Staten Island Ferry is much better as a commuter-priced tourist activity, IMO. For a museum, why not the Met? Pick one or two areas (or specific pieces of artwork) you really want to see - it's way too big and diverse to attempt seeing the whole thing; you'd just make yourself crazy. But there are sooooo many interesting and famous things there! And it's air-conditioned and has bathrooms and a restaurant. You can combine it with some time in Central Park. My kids loved the Tenement Museum. If you're looking for something off the beaten path, you might go to Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn. Take a tour - it's very, very interesting.

Slight hijack...we're going to be in NYC for one night in July. We'll have 24 hours there and are trying to figure out what things we MUST do. I've been there before (a long long time ago), but DH and DS(17) haven't. Any suggestions? I haven't made hotel reservations yet. Stated island ferry is free and you go by the Statue of Liberty.

My daughter saw Come From Away last night and said it's the most unique play she's seen -- she absolutely loved it. Two alum of her high school who are actors on Broadway told my friends that they had to go see it -- they'd recommend it over everything out there.

We went to the city last July and had a blast. One thing that we really enjoyed was the Circle Line tour. We picked the Premier package, mainly for the air conditioning because it was HOT the day that we went. A plus was we had advanced boarding and could have a server get our drinks for us. We saw just about everything that day.
If you go to Harlem, definitely have dinner at Sylvia's. OMG. One of the best meals we've ever had in NYC. It was so good that it put my then 12 year old DD in a food coma...lol. We're definitely going to go back the next time we're there.

That sounds like a really good idea for the short time we have in NYC.

We did the Roosevelt tramway which was quite good. At the other end there is a free bus around the island and you can get the subway back. Quite a nice gentle trip.
