I've moved alot, and alot of these tips are so helpful!
I had one special box (as already suggested) that contained all the small things that make temporary situations better. Mine contained a paring knife, scissors, towels, sometimes an air mattress, a battery operated camping style light (some places don't have overhead lighting and the lamps may be hard to find) a pack of cards or small game, a couple durable microwavable plates, cups and flatware. If coffee is a huge part of your day, definitely coffee maker, but I always find I'd rather go hit up a coffee spot in my new location.
Also, the suggestion to label (and the tape idea is great!) the boxes for the rooms they are going to is GREAT! Another thing I've found is that if you aren't 100% sure what you will need where (or you have a TON of stuff) I label just the first wave of things, or the ones that I know exactly where they are going. Of course dishes are going in the kitchen. But, some things sometimes aren't obvious til you get there (extra towels/bedding or other rooms that don't directly translate. Often I just designate a spare room/area and it is the catch all and I unpack from there. BUT this is where purging extra stuff is your best friend! LOL If it isn't clear where it's going, do you really want it?
Lastly a PSA from my brother... a professional mover: It is so kind to provide lunch/dinner for your movers and they appreciate it (and tips) very very much!! That said.... EVERYONE orders them pizza and they are sick of it, but would never be so rude to decline.

Very sorry about your daughter, how nice of you to move to be closer. I live in the Twin Cities and would be happy to answer any questions you have, feel free to ask. Don't let the "cold" scare you - it's absolutely lovely most months of the year. I always laugh when people assume it's very cold here all the time.
I've moved several times in my life - my biggest tip is purge and purge some more. Sell furniture, decor - whatever you can. It's a pain to move and in lots of cases, you will find you don't use it the way you thought you would. And of course - Label. If you are needing boxes - many times you can find someone selling boxes on Craigslist.

Don't wrap in newspaper! Grab a ton of paper towels and wrap using those (especially dishes). Not only are the dishes not dirty from the newspaper, but you'll have paper towels to use afterwards!
Good luck with your relocation and to your daughter as well. It's awesome you can be there as support!

If you are having professional movers, make sure you know what items they will and will not move. I was surprised they will move guns and ammunition, but will not move dryer sheets, because they are flammable.
I hope you get good news about your daughter’s health. I will say prayers.

I hope you get good news about your daughter. That has to be so hard to handle. I hope your move goes well, and that you enjoy your new surroundings, and being closer to your grandchildren. They are a blessing.
