I like the acetate dividers, but that's about it. Hard pass for me on FJ.

My scrappy Christmas mind has wandered right back to this 2018 collection: Ugh. I can be so indecisive when it comes to paper goods. It's a good thing I'm not like this for everything in life or I'd never make up my mind... I LOVE this collection! Perfectly neutral and whimsical! It's been sitting in my cart since November last year. I think it might (finally) be *it*.

I LOVE this collection! Perfectly neutral and whimsical! It's been sitting in my cart since November last year. I think it might (finally) be *it*. This collection (plus KPs BW kit I got) has me dreaming of a black/white/neutral DD. I need to think about this. On the FJ front, I’m considering the tabbed dividers and the cardstock inserts (would def go with the neutral DD plans!) I really like the trees, but they come out to $1 per tree so that’s a pass for me.

To all our DD/JYC participants: how do we feel about daily prompts for this year? I posted a prompt for every day of December in the DD thread last year and thought it might be nice to do something similar for 2019. Don't hesitate to give me some feedback on last year's if you played along. Always happy to improve the experience if we're to repeat it. sleepingbooty, this will be my first year attempting to do a December Daily album. If at all possible, I would like help in setting up my album in November. I bought some Elizabeth Craft Designs planner dies and some Echo Park Christmas papers. I have a red planner and stamps with the days/numbers. Can we do a thread in November with ideas on how to build the pages? I'm kinda fazed with all the randomness of these albums and need some solid foundation to build on!

FJ release is kinda disappointing, which I'm ok with since I bought all AE stuff. The colors are really throwing me, the lack of pink is unheard of.
I did buy the transparency dividers, the cardstock inserts (past years have been amazing quality) and the puffy stickers for the gnome. With that, I'm done shopping for DD this year.

Can we do a thread in November with ideas on how to build the pages? I'm kinda fazed with all the randomness of these albums and need some solid foundation to build on! We can make a separate Foundation Pages thread if needed. However, this thread will soon move on from discussing product to actually creating. This is how it usually goes and I suspect this year won't be different. All the main collections and kits have been released now (Crate Paper and Felicity Jane were the late ones), most December documenters are now going to begin discussing their plans and share photos of their actual work. I think mom is our early and very schedule-driven DD prepper this year but others will soon join. There are 2 main schools when it comes to December albums: 1. The preppers: they have foundation pages ready, they have stuff tucked into pockets, they have most of their days figured out (and planned according to their December schedule of special events), they already have some scrapbooking done. A good yet not too complicated example of this type of prep would be Jen Schow's 2015 DD foundation pages: In the video below, you can see how she went from the foundation pages to the finished pages for the first six days of December 2015: 2. Go-with-the-flowers: they often have minimal prepping done but it rarely exceeds having their supplies at hand, they like to work as the month unfolds or at the end of December. A good example for this would be Caylee Grey's 2017 December album "flow pages" she made after the Christmas festivities had ended (she explains at some point in the video that she starts by printing the photos first, placing them in pockets, brainstorming ideas and then adding paper, embellishments, journaling): Here is her finished 2017 December album in which she explains some design decisions and changes she ended up making: As for you, you mention having a planner, a lovely set of dies, papers and a stamp set for the days of the month. Is there anything missing in your self-curated DD kit? Do you plan on working with page protectors or only on paper pages? Do you want variety in your numbers (some stamped, some as chipboard/puffy Thickers)? Do you want any transparency inserts (vellum, acetate)?

MDscrapaholic, my first year doing a DD I was very much like you. Lost and not really sure where to start. I did prep most of my pages in advance. That ended up not working for me at all, I used less than 1/3 of what I started with. I'm in awe of the planner-a-headers (totally a word!). What has helped me tremendously is watching album walkthrough videos and jotting down cool ideas or techniques. By the time December rolls around I have a pretty good idea of what our days will look like. My kids have a lot of activities throughout the week, so things like picking our tree, decorating, baking are set in advance. I also don't get terribly hung up on documenting each day in order, it's more about the stories I want to tell. Good luck and have fun!

MDscrapaholic I will be posting some of my foundation pages soon, I made several with the Elizabeth Crafts dies. I've had a lot of fun, returning to my crafty "roots" doing them. When I use the pocket pages, I don't do foundation pages, I end up switching things around too much. This year, I'm putting all the elements together in page protectors, and will glue everything down when I have the photos.

Can we do a thread in November with ideas on how to build the pages? I'm kinda fazed with all the randomness of these albums and need some solid foundation to build on! I have lots of thoughts/opinions!! I would start with deciding if you want to do a true DAILY chronological album, if you want to include something every day even if it's not holiday related like AE does, if you want to do a 25 memories album where you make 25 pages but some of them are holiday things that didn't happen on that exact day, or if you want to do something thematic or prompt based? That sounds like a lot of options but it's not so hard - does it makes your skin crawl to put a big 12 on something that happened on the 10th of December? if you watch a Christmas movie every Saturday, would rather have them gathered on one "Christmas movies we watched this year" page or scattered throughout the album? I would also make a list of the Christmas activities you know you're going to be doing, or want to do, and see if that helps provide a structure. Especially if there are some events you know you take a million photos of, or if there are days when you'll definitely not be feeling festive. As for pre-prepping pages, you probably have a sense of whether you start from the photo or the design in your current albums. If you start designing from the photo then pre-planned pages might be more trouble than they're worth. I'd also consider whether this is something you intend to do daily, or catch up on each weekend, or start early but finish later, maybe in Jan or July. AE's way of doing things works for her office space and life - it's fairly easy for her to pop into her office, print off a photo, and slip it into an album lying open on her desk. That's not how my world works - my stuff is in the middle of the house and Christmas is all around me. AE also seems to be a person who is done with Christmas on Christmas Day, which is not how I operate either. So I never did well modeling my process on hers. If you're interested in doing something thematic and want a prompt list to start from, I have a list of JYC prompts (just the titles, not the full content that Shimelle shares) that I'd be happy to send. They are my starting point for some journaling and creating a list of things I don't want to forget to do over the season, but I'm a chronology freak so I find it harder to build an album on them. Some things will only come clear in the midst of the doing

I’m definitely a preppier because work tends to be busy in December with the lead up to the summer holidays and otherwise I wouldn’t get my album finished.

It's a good thing I'm not like this for everything in life or I'd never make up my mind... Those papers are adorable!!!! I've tried prepping pages before and usually fail miserably. So what I am doing this year is my title page, and then doing some of the pages/techniques that I have seen others do but don't have time to do when I am putting the album together - like shaker pockets, flip ups, making my own envelopes, transparencies, felt stars etc etc

This is my plan as well. no real pages done ahead of time, but lots of technique-y things prepped. Since my Albus is 4x6 it doesn't lead to having 'real' pages done ahead of time.

So now that I'm at work I can click on the detail images from my PC but still not from my phone.
There is also NOTHING posted about the Noel kit on the regular FJ FB page. Oh that's how it always is. *eye roll* I looked and I am not sure if I will buy something or not. I do like some of it (specifically, the blank & white pieces), but Im very irritated about waiting two weeks to ship. I will say the good thing about her waiting two weeks to ship is that if you have more than one order, she will refund the extra shipping if you let her know. So there's that. This definitely isn't my favorite collection from her, at all. The colors are off (those greens!), I don't love that the 12x12 paper isn't the same as the 6x6 either. I think her numbers are nice, but not sure $8 nice. Her acetate dividers & cardstock dividers from last year are some of my favorite- they are nice and thick. This years look promising - too bad most of them won't work in a 4x6 album. 🤷♀️

So the album with the stars would cost me $39.20 shipped. Pricey for me. Is it just me or is anyone else having trouble getting any of the detail images to work (ie, pocket cards, die-cuts etc)? For me the album only would be $ 77!!! Thats over $ 50 in shipping! Insane!!!

Is there another source for the FJ Bow Clips? They’re cute, but $8.47 for ONE paper clip.😳 So, she used to include the information in the description but she no longer does. She partners with Modern Piggy and they make her bows (and they are pricey on that site too).

A lot of planner shops sell bow Paperclips so Etsy has so many similar options for better prices. A found this shop that has so CUTE bow clips. I’ve never purchased from them but they have cute stuff. etsy.me/2rBJxGJ Thanks! I’ll check it out.

Thanks sleepingbooty ! You gave me a lot to think about. I think I’d like to prep my pages before hand but not number them. I don’t want to use page protectors but am not sure how well the pages will hold up without them. I guess I just have to do it this year and make note of what works for me and what doesn’t. janamke , I watched the videos sleepingbooty recommended and will search for more. I don’t have to document every day and I may want to do more than one page for a special event. karinec , I’d love to see what you’ve done with the EC dies as your foundation pages. joblackford I’m very flexible and probably won’t have time to do it daily. I’d like to at least document what’s happening daily, if not in the actual album then write it down somewhere for later reference. I did subscribe to Shimelle’s JYC several years ago and have not had time to open the emails and read them. That might be a good starting point for me. I love this place, thanks for all the inspiration! I’ll be watching this thread and any others that might pop up for this project.

Alright, peas, you must stop enabling. I bought 4 things at FJ and it was $30: the 6X8 things like pockets and stuff. I got them last year and it was so worth it. Very handy. This year's has two that look like 4X6 and that's the size my daughter is doing. I got $8 chipboard numbers but the font is amazing. I got the acetate thingies with holes to attach to stuff. I have almost used up all of my Basic Grey hoard of attacher things (moment of silence, Basic Grey). And some tabs for my travel journals -- they had scalloped edges.
Dang, stuff is pricey.
But I know I will use all of these things.
I am a go-with-the-flower after some minor prepping.
And the TREE!! You must go to the next town and photograph that. How very cool. I think we are going to NYC after Christmas. It's not a bad drive at all. About 6 hours.

I may have done a thing tonight just to include it in my December Daily... As you may know, tickets for the new Star Wars movie went on sale tonight. I orginally bought one ticket for a 6:00 p.m. showing, but then I found out about the 9 movie marathon. So I bought a ticket for that instead! Fortunately, I was able to get a refund from AMC for the first ticket I bought.
This means I will spend more than 27 hours in the movie theater from December 18 through the 20th. My butt will be sore, and I won't get my steps in, but I will have a story to tell! I may also tie it into the time I went to a LOTR marathon when "Return of the King" was released.
I am so stinking excited about this - it is well worth $85! LOL, my youngest brother chastised me about the cost, I think because he is jealous, and I told him the first ticket I bought was more than $18, so this one was a steal for all 9 movies, especially since it comes with a commemorative blanket! 😂
