My DS21 is really struggling with depression at the moment, so I often look for ways to distract him, or just make him smile for a while. So when I saw a giant bubble wand reduced in the supermarket a couple of days ago, I bought it for him. It’s been a huge hit! He was standing out in the garden earlier with a huge grin on his face, blowing huge bubbles, tiny bubbles and medium bubbles. 😊 And I’m sitting watching him and his friend having great fun filling the bubbles with vape from his friend’s e-cig! 😄
So what simple pleasures have made you happy recently?

This is probably sickening but, lying in bed with the husband and just talking at the end of the day.
Finding a shop that sells my favourite drink Walking with friends and their absolutely adorable little dog.

DH and I have been getting an ice cream cone on the days that are hard. Nothing fancy, just a cone + a scoop of buttered pecan ice cream. But I love it and it lifts my mood!

DH and i have "beach Thursdays" in the summer when we go down to the beach, walk on the water and catch the sun set.

My son (15) also struggles with depression. Today we had a long walk in the sun just laughing and talking about silly stuff. A nice walk or hiking in nature is my favorite simple pleasure.

Great thread! I’ve been struggling with a flare up of depression lately and it’s much too hot to do what I would normally do, which is to go for a long walk while listening to a good book.

Once a week on a Saturday or Sunday (whenever possible) my DH and search the internet and find a different “we have never been to” little “hole in the wall” type restaurant in a different city, usually at least a 30 to 60 minute drive. We turn on soft jazz music, talk, enjoy each other and enjoy the ride. It’s my favorite way to end the week, catch up on life and reconnect with each other. It’s a wonderful, simple pleasure.

A new cookery book I'm really enjoying It's full of low cal recipes that are giving me new inspiration for my 5:2 diet days

Now that I'm back to school I'm missing my greatest simple pleasure of the summer: sitting on my screened in porch in the early morning, enjoying a second cup of coffee. Both cats are usually by my side. I go to bed excited just anticipating the peaceful morning moments watching the birds and enjoying my coffee. At least I still have Saturday/Sunday mornings.

My favorite thing to do as a simple pleasure is walk in nature. That is one of the major reasons for relocating to Oregon. Here in SoCal, With all the concrete everywhere, I have to drive to either the beach, which I love, or one of the few parks that have rustic trails. Unfortunately, there are no dogs allowed in those areas. I just want to take a nice stroll in nature with my dog.
The last thing I did that made me incredibly happy was to throw on an older one piece bathing suit, start pulling weeds and unwanted plants in the back yard, and then fall into the swimming pool to cool off. I just started bringing my dog into the pool, against his will a bit, and just floating in the deep end. I put a life jacket on him and just ordered sun glasses and a little visor hat so that he can be in the water without squinting so much.
Yesterday, I put him on the steps where he can reach the edge of the pool, thinking he would climb out and run as far away from the pool as he could. Surprisingly, he turned around on that first step and begged to come back into the pool with me. I am going to be using the pool daily as I get the back yard in shape and relandscape certain areas. It is a lot more fun than doing the front yard in 85 degree heat.

I love blowing bubbles still at my age so I totally get their delight in that.
Recently? I've enjoyed walking at the park and interacting with all the ducks that live there. Reading a good book out on the patio to enjoy the sunshine and nature sounds. Getting a massage. And cooking something new and creative as @gar referenced -- bonus points if the people eating it rave over it.

DH and I just drove from the San Antonio area to Boulder and the only time the music was on was when he was listening to an inspirational book his coach wanted him to read on the way up. So for a few hours I sang along to my favorites. Which was fun, but not as fun as us yacking our heads off and enjoying each other A physical simple pleasure, new white space/empty space created around the house by organizing/decluttering. The bottle of foam soap and good TP I brought with us so the bathrooms were a little better equipped while we were there and I didn’t have to deal with bar soap or single ply TP (shudders). Flat pretzels, who knew? Great for using with PB. A great parking space at his race so I could get out of the sun and enjoy the a/c while he was biking and running for hours at a time.

Relaxing in the evening with a good book while reclining on my sofa. A throw draped on my legs if it’s chilly from the air conditioner. Simply sitting with my hubby while we are doing our own thing, even if a bit of time has passed since we’ve spoken, it’s still enjoyable. And I still see it as quality time spent with my husband.

My simple thrill today is we have finally found a place for ds to live in Boise where he is going to college. He didn't manage to get into a dorm, and we've been tearing our hair out trying to find last minute accommodation for just half a year. Phew, he is taken care of.
I love driving around and chatting with dh.

My DD spent 2 weeks here recuperating from surgery. By the end of her stay, her 10 yo Papillon, Cherry, would be waiting when I got on the bed for me to put a pillow over my lap. She’d come lie on it and wait for me to love on her. I missed puppy love!
One day weekend before last I made Chicken Gyros with homemade kefir taziki, cucumber salad, and baba ganoush. I also made pita. I didn’t ask anyone what they wanted to eat, I just made what I wanted for a change. LOL. I felt totally selfish! Everyone seemed to enjoy it and there was no pita or chicken leftover.
I love doing USA Today’s daily crossword and sudoku while I have my morning coffee. It’s how I get my brain in order for the day.

Painting or any kind of creating usually gets my mind moving in a positive way.
Exercise, like walking. I put on my headphones and some fun music (for me, that means something like Taylor Swift) and get moving.
Working towards a goal is good for me - thinking about it, breaking it down into steps, etc.
Hope your son soon finds his way through the depression. It runs in our family, so in addition to medication we are always looking for ways to lift that fog and move into the sunlight!

I try very hard to distract myself from what's happening in my life. I have a secret Pinterest board where I pin all kind of things that spark a little joy.
I play Boggle on my phone. A timed 2 minute game that forces me to concentrate. There's coloring apps; Happy Color, Cross Stitch, and Sandbox. Or do actual coloring. You can search color by number for adults free printables, or do regular adult coloring pages.
I know this was discussed on another thread, but sometimes having a list of things you have done during the day instead of "to do" can be motivating. It's not something I do the entire day. It helps you see you have accomplished something, rather the overwhelming amount of things you feel you have to finish.
There's some mini "lego" sets you can buy on sights like Wish and Aliexpress for a good price.

Getting up earlier. For years I took meds that made getting up a real chore. I was always running out the door late to work. Now I'm on a new med and I get up and enjoy coffee on my deck. Catch up with Facebook and peas and sometimes get to work early (and leave early).

my neighbour that i cat sit/house sit for offered me her cottage to take the kids up to this weekend. i am eating my bagel and drinking tea now and then going to get everyone up so we can get out the door. but i wanted easy, yummy dinners so yesterday i asked my almost 14 yo son if he wanted to walk down to this place that sells amazing homemade lasagna so i could grab one. he said yes but it was looking pretty dark so we grabbed umbrellas. two mins out the door and it started to rain, then it started to rain hard! we walked in the rain chatting about why we liked the rain, what rain sounds we like best, etc. we grabbed lasagna and went to cute little coffee shop a couple of doors down for a drink and a snack before heading home. it was nice. : :

Yesterday I drove the 2 hours to spend the day hanging out with my elderly parents. It was great!
I also love this early morning time with my coffee and laptop. I Pea, check my email, and whatever before DH gets up. It's so peaceful.

And he goes to bed earlier than me so I go in and tuck him in and then leave him to sleep. It's one of the favorite parts of my day. Reminds me of the days when I used to tuck my little ones in.

Butterflies! A couple years ago we raised about 18 monarch butterflies from eggs and released them in our yard. We have had way too much on our plates this summer to foster them this summer but I have been cultivating the milkweed that grows naturally at our cabin, digging up and replanting the ones that have come up in the middle of the yard that would get mowed and leaving the plants at home intact for them, and there have been so many more butterflies this year. Next year I’m going to get a setup like my friend has with a pop up mesh container to raise them in, it’s so much better than a Rubbermaid tote with holes poked in it!

I buy myself bubbles every summer. There's just something about reconnecting with that little kid inside, even if it's just for a minute. I also really enjoy tending my garden on tough days.

I like to walk down my rural dirt road first thing in the morning before it gets too hot, I'll miss that when I go back to school next week. Hopefully I'll switch to evenings once it cools off a bit.
The last few mornings have been cool, cloudy and comfortable, perfect to enjoy the outdoors, the landscape and the cows in the fields I pass along the way.

My simple pleasure is sitting on the back patio on my flex Friday morning (ff = every other Friday off) drinking coffee and chilling. I even have a new-to-me mug that I got last weekend at goodwill! Cell photo is too big to attach but it says "First coffee then adulting."

Swimming laps first thing in the morning is a lovely, calming way to start my day. I try to get a mile in and it seems to relieve the anxiety that tends to follow me through the day. Sitting on the deck at our cottage watching the river flow past and the eagles catch their dinner is my other favorite pastime. It’s nice to forget about the horrors going on in the world for a bit and enjoy nature at its finest..

Frou-frou bath products, nice robes to wear, turn down service with chocolate left on the pillow...and 1-ply or cheap super thin 2-ply toilet paper.
