You could stick it out and wait to see if she gets in over her head and quits. You may have the patience to keep dealing with this kind of crazy.
I lasted 8 months with a crazy narcissist boss only due to my professionalism and my co-worker. But eventually I had to walk out because he had crossed the line. I would have went to HR but he literally stole my work diary and ripped out the evidence I had been documenting about his behavior and work conduct. I could write a book about my experience. It took me a solid month to decompress from hell mission.
Basically it's up to how much you can put up with. Good luck.

I'd stop trying to help in any way. Sometimes you just have to allow people to fail. It's sad that this is a generational family business and she may well end it. I have to wonder what the other sister thinks is going on.

What a hot mess! I hope you've got your resume out there, that woman is crazy! I couldn't work for someone like that.

I think I'd remove her posters and never say a word about doing it. She puts it up, I cover it with my things. Meanwhile interview as fast as possible. As mentioned, put it all in writing for documentation. If she tells you something, ask for it in writing. If she won't give it to you in writing, I'd email a summary of what was said to her each time she gave you directions.Does the other sister/owner have any idea what is going on? This is exactly what I was thinking. “To confirm our conversation/text message from this morning (@ time and place)...details details details...Please contact me with any discrepancies by (day and time) otherwise I will move in this direction at that time.” If it was via text include screenshots.

banging my head on my desk.....crazy lady didn't do ANYTHING on Friday about the non paid tuitions. As concerned as she was....I sent details on what she could do on Friday...call parents etc...and when I went in this morning and asked her how it went? SHE HAD DONE NOTHING! She said there must have been a "miscommunication"...ugh... Luckily I'm just fine with letting those students come to school tomorrow without paying tuition! lol! Then I expressed the frustration I was feeling and reminded her that this was why I had been asking for the extra hours last week. She was so confused because she had given me extra hours! I explained once again that the few extra hours she had given me had been used by Tuesday, which is why I had asked for more. Because I knew there were all of these late enrollments coming in that would have to be dealt with later in the week. She never understood. Later she tried to tell me that she had offered me ten more hours on top of the ones I already had used. Uh...no. You told me I could have ten extra hours over what I NORMALLY worked. Again, blamed it on a "miscommunication". whatever... I spent the whole day today feeling like there was a brick in my stomach. What really had me on the verge of tears the whole day was that she had gone into my office over the weekend, taken down the things I had put up on the walls, and put up two crappy "5oth anniversary promotional photo collages". Ugh...my office had been so cute before that.(everyone had commented on it) Now it looks crappy. And she has put into the new employee handbook that you cannot put anything else up without her permission. Blech. I'm going to put up some of my things on the one blank wall later and feign a "miscommunication" if she says anything. And to top it all off, they got a new phone system but no inservice on how to use the fancy new thing. I don't even know how to put a call on hold, lol. And because my extension is referred to on the automated phone menu as the "business office" I had all these voicemails from businesses wanting to get paid for services and products rendered. I found out how to forward all those messages to her real fast! You realize that her chalking it up to “miscommunication “ means she was right and you are wrong. She’s going to throw you under the bus.

Nope. I just went to an interview a couple of weeks ago with “crazy.” Thought it was funny how she mentioned in the interview why the last person left, and then proceeded to let her crazy come out. I walked far away from that! I hope that you can either find a way to cope for a bit and get the heck out of there. I’m in the camp that life is too short for crazy.

So today we had a little boy sent in to me to check for head lice....and he was full of nits. Later the librarian asked me to check her hair because she had been hugging him the day before and was getting nervous. While I was poking through her hair, she mentioned that crazy lady was looking for me to go through her hair too! lol...like I would tell her if I found something! I avoided her the rest of the afternoon so I wouldn't have to do her hair and noticed that she left campus for a while. Most likely went somewhere to have her hair checked.
She is probably going to be really upset with me because I let people come in and pay tuition with personal checks today rather than send them away to get cashier's checks. I think I've only seen one bounced check in the past three years, so its a risk I'm willing t take as opposed to making things difficult for the parents. If she says anything I will just tell her that I thought it best to take the money while I could rather than let them leave without paying and having to wait another day or two to get the payments. One of their slogans is that we are "family" here...and then you infer that they cannot be trusted? Nope. I know the parents. I have no reason to believe they won't have the money to cover the check. And then I just have to snicker about all those voice mails on my phone from all the businesses that WE have not paid....what a bunch of hypocrites! Oh! and there was a parent who had come a week or so ago to tour the school. She had come into my office to discuss the financials and noticed my pictures on the walls. Today she came back in to give me a check, and she commented that my pretty pictures were gone! lol....she noticed!

Oh my goodness. Second day of school. There were sooooo many early arrival kids and aftercare kids the first two days. So crazy lady decides that to reduce the number of kids in aftercare, the teacher kids must leave when school is out. They can no longer stay in aftercare at no charge like before. Half of our teachers have kids that attend the school. So the principal tells her that the teachers cannot take their kids home right after school because a) they are required to stay a certain amount of time after school by their contracts. (to help with carpool, be available for parent meetings, some do club meetings, NHS, ect. and b)some teach after school piano and dance lessons, pep squad, sports.... Of course, the school makes money from these lessons. "Well...they need to either make arrangements for someone to come get them or pay for aftercare then". But she also added that her three grandchildren could continue to stay (free of charge)...WTF? Principal told her she was crazy! Why can the grandkids stay? Your daughter doesn't work after school! "Oh, she works from home" DOING WHAT? lol....she used to do a school blog...now defunk...and she used to do the school facebook, but now teachers send in the photos. So really, what work does she do from home? Can't wait to see how this one plays out....pass the popcorn! Oh...and I got notified that I took a tuition check written for 11 cents too little. Sent me a picture of the check and everything. ELEVEN CENTS!

Why can't the teachers' kids just go to their parents' classroom after school? We don't have aftercare here but many of the teachers also have kids in the school. Said kids just go to mom's (or dad's) class after school is over. They work on their own homework, help mom/dad with whatever, play on iPads, etc. BTW: thanks for the daily updates....not that I'm happy you're still there, but I do enjoy reading things that make me seem a touch more sane

I also strongly recommend document, document, document. If the school owns the email then bcc your personal email. You can also document on google docs or notes or something on your phone not somewhere she has access. Can you tell I worked in a crazy situation before?!
What is the situation with the bolted door?
Good luck. Have you sent out resumes?

No one "over" her...its a family owned private school. She is one of the daughters of the deceased founder. Most of the teacher kids are pretty young....mostly 4 and 5 year olds, a few 7 or 8 year olds, then a couple in middle school. The younger ones would probably be too distracting during the various activities their moms are going to be doing. The doors have remained unlocked so far....not sure if that is going to change later or not. Perhaps she changed her mind? Hope so... Yes, I have put in an application for an office position at another school where I have contacts. The position isn't officially "open" yet though. I will give it a while to see if it opens up since it would be ideal to work at since I am hosting three international students that attend there. If not...I don't know...I do enjoy the rest of the staff and the kids here. Its just that one dang crazy lady! But at least I am not alone in having to deal with her. Its not like she is just crazy to me...lol...don't know if that really makes it any better or not. But I do know I have lots of company in the boat.

houstonsandy The teachers with children in after school care need to point out that allowing their children to stay for free is part of their compensation package. They should point out they will need additional compensation in the form of $ if the policy is changed.

She agreed to not change the teacher kid policy for aftercare....smart move! But in her never ending quest to see just how far she can push me.... My office is on the opposite end of the building from the room with the one, major school copier. Most of the things I print off are of a confidential matter...financial stuff, immunization records, invoices, ect. Today I printed off several things before trekking down the hall to collect them all at once. They were not on the printer. This is not unusual. Teachers print off a lot of papers and just grab the whole stack without checking to make sure that they only have what they printed and that some other print job did not go through in the middle of their stack. Yesterday I could not find the master locker list...the one with all the locker assignments and locker combinations. Today I could not find some tuition sheets and shot records. You have to go through crazy lady's office to get to the printer. So as I left empty handed I tried to explain to her that this was a problem. Confidential information was being mixed in with other stuff and just floating around campus. Little Johnny was going to find Little Jane's tuition sheet in the middle of his algebra test and this just was not cool. I asked if it was possible to have a little desk printer to print out the confidential stuff in my office. Of course, she said no. The reason being that we have a maintenance agreement for the office copier. I don't understand why, then, does the librarian have a desk printer...and the reception desk has a desk printer....but me, who prints off confidential materials, cannot. Her solution? "Just text me whenever you print off something and I will go grab it off the printer for you"..... Oooooooooo Kayyyyyyyyyy....you do know you are not in your office about 90% of the time, right? So I came up with my own solution. I called the IT guy and had him hook my desktop up wirelessly with the desk printer in the reception office instead. Its only halfway down the hall and only one other person will be taking things off of it. Problem solved for now, but she JUST....DOES....NOT....GET....IT!

(A few of our friends have kids at a local private school and their first day pictures included 50th anniversary signs. While I know it isn't the same school, I definitely did a double take!)

I am going to hide now: My business degree is made of mostly accounting accounting classes... almost all accounting. I knew when I spent over an hour to find a 1 cent mistake, that I was never going into accounting.
11 cents would have killed me, ( no I would never bitch about 11 cents.).
