Things are still about the same...she is still making everyone roll their eyes. I am able to avoid her for most of the day luckily. We are all still having issues with things that are a direct result of me not being able to put in more hours over the summer, but its getting a little better. I did find one thing to make me smile though... Every day or two (depending on how many checks or cash I take in) I fill out a deposit sheet with the checks and cash to give to her to take to the bank. It goes into a deposit bag. Last week she brought me the empty deposit bags back. When I went to put the next deposit into one of the bags I found a check. A check written out to her personally from a person who is buying their house. A check for over $16,000.00. I just zippered that bag back shut....and used a different deposit bag for my deposit. I don't think I'll be needing to use that particular deposit bag for a looooooooong time. lol...

Welp, she struck again over the three day weekend. On Friday after I left several parents turned in checks and money for various trip deposits, club dues, after school lessons, aftercare, ect when they picked up their kids. Since we had not yet developed any formal procedure for what to do with moneys collected when I am not at school, it was decided that the front desk receptionist would lock the money up in her desk until I got in this morning. I am the one who credits the accounts, inputs payments into the budget spreadsheets, makes up the deposit slips. An email was sent out to let everyone know what was being done and crazy was copied on the email. In hindsight, a big mistake. This morning, the receptionist unlocked her desk to give me the money so that I could record the payments. It was gone! She was in a panic! When crazy came in to work later, she said she had been there over the weekend so she took the money out to take it to the bank. OKaaaaaaaaaaaaay.....did you happen to make a copy of the checks? or make a note of who turned in cash? and how much? and what it was for? Of course not..........she just grabbed the money and went to the bank. So now how in the heck are we supposed to credit the students accounts? How are we to account on the spreadsheets who paid? and what? and how? and for what? What a mess this is going to be! How could she not know this was a bad thing to do! Banging my head.....

I can't even! I'm not sure I could be polite to her at this point. She is beyond crazy! What an incredible mess she has created!
I'm so sorry you have to work with this.
Can't wait to see how she is going to fix this one.
ETA - Do you think she is pocketing cash? Is there cash turned in?

Am I bad because I love this thread? If so then I'll be right there with you on the train to hell This woman can't get out of her own way long enough to run a school....shall we start taking bets on how long before they close their doors? houstonsandy I hope you don't have to clean up this mess she made (though we all know that shit rolls down hill so I'm guessing you'll be up to your knees in it soon )

WOW, that is crazy!
Why aren't the parents given a receipt when they pay for something? If they are then you could check the receipt book to know who paid for what. Maybe that could help prevent this from happening again???
I know you hate it but I honestly LOVE reading what that idiot does next!

They had a staff meeting this morning. I don't know what they discussed, but the admissions director commented to me that he got so mad he had to leave the meeting and go back to his office. The new offices have sliding glass doors......He said he was so mad because he couldn't "slam the door" behind him like he wanted to...lol...sliding glass doors just don't have the same dramatic effect! He could only muster up a firm "thud" which just did not cut it for him.
Last year I worked 9 to 5. Before the end of last semester they were in the process of mapping out new positions and job duties since the front office configuration was changing. I was no longer going to have to work in the front doing co-reception duties as well as my financial and registrar duties since I was going to finally get an office down the hall. I asked if I could rework my schedule to get off earlier in the day. I have three girls I host parent for during the year and if I couldn't get off early enough to pick them up from their school before the cut off time I was going to have to pay $45.00 a day to have them do after school study hall. So crazy kindly adjusted my schedule so that I could get off at 3pm. Over summer she stated to me that my hours would be 8 to 3, which is cutting one hour a day off, but losing one hour of pay was the better option. (I told her I could actually stay as late as 3:30, but she liked 3 better because it was "even"....well...ok...untill you take off the 30 minutes for lunch they don't pay you for...but whatever...) Today she asks me...."what time are you coming in?" "8am" "Why are you coming in at 8?" "To work? That is when you told me I could come in..." "Well...we don't need three people coming in at 8am".... The other two people who come in at 8am are the front desk receptionist and another lady who just comes in for 1 hour to help with carpool and with shepherding all the kids into the building and off to early arrival care or to class...and collects all the papers and money that comes in with them for lunches, me, ect. In other words....we aren't all three there doing the same job so I don't know why it matters. I am already doing my old job with one less hour per day and its a struggle as it is to keep up. Now she implies that she thought I was still coming in at 9am like last year. I swear, if she tries to cut me back another hour it really won't be worth it to keep this job. (not that I want to keep it anyways...) I could get a part time job somewhere else and make the same money. I am only holding on right now because I am hoping and waiting that the job at the other school opens up. Also, I really like the rest of the staff and all the kids here. Ugh....hard decision. So tomorrow I will have to type up a list of all the things my job entails in order to "prove" to her that I need to be here for 6.5 hours a day to get it done...geesh

Yes...sigh...I am still there. Things are calming down a *little* bit. Still having issues with the money. Last Friday she left early without taking the deposit and some check requests. I contacted her to see if she would pick it up over the weekend so that the check requests could get to her sister (who cuts the checks only on Sundays) so the people could get paid. Left it locked in the file cabinet in an envelope clearly marked "DEPOSIT". Easy enough...right? Just take the envelope marked "DEPOSIT". Welp...she also decided to open my money box and take everything out of there as well....(Sent me a picture of everything she took, so at least she got that part right.)It included some checks that had come in just before I was leaving and three $5.00 bills marked "Kat's change"....None of the checks were written up on the deposit slip. The cash was clearly marked as someone's change! Ugh. So I told her she had to return those things because they were not meant to be deposited yet. Of course she did not. So every time I saw her I kept asking for the $15.00 so I could give the girl her change until she finally went out to her car and got cash out of her purse to shut me up. LOL. Now I have to lock the money box and hide the key before locking it in the file cabinet so she can't get into it again. The file cabinet is the only thing in my office that locks, and it has a "word" combo on it. She and I are the only ones with the current combination. I specifically told her to make sure she locked it when she picked up the deposit, because last time she got into it she left it unlocked. Money and Ritalin are kept in that cabinet.... Well, the lock was swung into the closed position, but she did not push it in before spinning the letters so that it was actually locked. I had to teach her how to lock a freaking lock. Oh...the whole deal about my hours! When I told them that I would have to find another job if my hours were cut any further, they were like..."Oh? We thought you wanted to cut back your hours!" Uh.....no. I wanted to "adjust" my hours so that I could get off earlier in the day to pick up my girls at their school and not have to pay for after school study hall. Losing one hour a day was something I could live with in order to leave earlier, but that was the most I could cut back. "Oh..it was just a misunderstanding". Then we compromised and changed my hours from 8-3 to 8:30 to 3:30. Still works for me and it seemed to make them happy....so.....
This week's big dilemma is ice packs. We are not allowed to give any medications which includes applying any sort of topical cream or antibiotic or anti itch creams to boo-boos. Ice packs are our wonder drug. Unfortunately, we go through a lot of ice packs and they are not always returned promptly (or at all) after being used. We requested some more be purchased as we are not down to one. They wanted to "make our own" from some idea they saw on Pinterest....Yes! lets make our own ice packs in zip lock baggies. Little kids won't open those and make big messes! I guess they rethought that idea because now their solution is that when we pass out an ice pack we will have to "sign it out" and then make sure it gets returned. Yeah...that's gonna work! lol. Like I am going to chase down little kids and demand the ice packs back because I don't have anything more pressing to do all day.

We had an ice pack problem when I worked in a school. Our school nurse used sponges dipped in cold water, them put in zip lock bags and froze them. When they returned she went through the whole process with clean zip lock bags. It worked out well and not such an expense.

Honestly I would get out of there. If she is taking money out of the deposit box and losing it or not recording it correctly its going to come back to bite her in the ass, and no way she would take the fall.
She could very well accuse you of stealing it and bring the police in. This could have serious repercussions.
Trust me on this one, I had a sort of similar incident and called HR on the spot, and they said well my accuser is in management and that she was in charge. I walked out that day and never went back.

If it helps at all - our school used to use frozen sponges. They'd wet the sponge (I'd say they were maybe 2"x3" or so in size) and freeze them, then slip them into a baggie and use that for an ice pack. Way less mess should the baggie open, and much less expensive than ice packs. Other than that, I'm so sorry you're dealing with the crazy!

I third the sponge idea. That is what we use. We have one child who “requires” an ice pack a day, at the beginning of each school year her parents bring in a grocery bag full of sponges for us because they know their child so well! We lose about 50% of sponges given out, but they are cheap so we don’t worry too much about it.

Oh my! Guess who is getting audited by the IRS? lol.....she came in to my office with a list of things she needs me to gather for her regarding the audit for the 2016-17 school year.
Invoices...."I forward all invoices to your sister to pay. I do not keep them."
Cash receipts....."All the old cash receipts books were in the file cabinets that you packed up when you moved them over the summer...I don't know where you put them"
Our procedures for recording and processing money...."Oh..you mean the money that you actually don't just up and take before its been recorded?" "Isn't there a policy and procedure manual for the school that should have our procedures in it? Otherwise its really simple: receive check...record check into budget...write up deposit slip and turn over to you. Receive cash...write a receipt..record into budget..write up deposit slip and turn over to you.... Unless you decide to just take the money and checks you see that are not on the deposit slip... then its take the money...hide the money from you...then follow procedures as described earlier. If that fails and you take the money, then the procedure is: take money...lose money..."
This is gonna be fun!

Doesn’t sound fun, sounds like a nightmare she may well try to dump off the blame on you.

lol...no, its not wrong. I am waiting for a spot that I applied to at my dd's old school to officially open up, so I am not actively looking anywhere else just yet. I have three international students that I host parent for that are going to that school, so it would be really convenient to be able to work there.
So....our aftercare program ends at 6pm. If for some reason a child is not picked up by 6pm the parents are billed $1.00 per minute until the time they are picked up. Three siblings were not picked up last night until 6:30. Normally the parent would be billed $30.00 per student, so $90.00. The three children in this case were her grandchildren. Her grandchildren are considered "staff children", so do not pay for aftercare. But since it was a late pickup (and the aftercare person had to stay 30 minutes late) I asked if I should charge the grandchildren's mother for the late pickup fees. Of course, the answer was no....I knew it would be, but still....
Have I told yall about the "private restroom"? The hallway has two restrooms for staff and guest use only...no students. One of them is always locked. It is their own "private" restroom. Their tooshies are too good to mingle with the regular staff tooshies I guess. I do have a key that opens the "private" restroom. One of these days I should sneak in and take all the toilet paper out...lol. Its probably not the ultra thin scratchy stuff they put in the rest of the restrooms....

You wonder how they stay in business! I used to work for a daycare center back when I was in college. There was a Montessori school in the same building that was run by a man who was as unfit to be in charge as your boss. He now owns his own Accademy, named after himself of course! I saw the van drive by me on the road the other day. I don’t know how he has a school and who would send their children to be educated by him. He’s wealthy, I guess that’s all it takes!
