Hi everyone, This is the first time I’ve started a topic so I hope I’m doing this right! For December Daily this year I’ve decided to use an older 6x8 Ashley Goldberg album with 4 rings and a 2.5 inch spine that I have I’ve resisted using it for the past few years as it’s not very ‘Christmassy compared to all my simple story Christmas and Ali DD albums, but I have 49 page protectors so it seems silly to not use it!
My question is has anyone successfully covered a padded album that has the slick paper type covering? It’s not cloth or chipboard so I’m not sure how it would go.. I thought I could perhaps cover it with fabric? Any advice including just keep it as is and get over it is appreciated 😂

I have never tried it, but what do you have to lose? I would use spray adhesive and fabric.
I hope you'll post before and after photos.

I've never done it, but I would use fabric and spray adhesive. I guess if you wanted to paint it, you could use Gesso first (for a primer) and then paint it.

Back in the 80s my mom used to make photo albums covered with fabric. It involved wrapping a binder in polyester batting and fabric. I see no reason why it wouldn't work without the batting. She would cut a piece of fabric slightly larger than the cover (maybe an inch bigger all around) and neatly fold it over to the inside of the binder, securing it on the inside with Aleen's Tacky Glue. She would then use pieces of thin cardboard (chipboard, old cereal boxes) covered in fabric on the inside covers.
You could also just sew a slipcover for it, which would also be lovely.

If you have access to a sewing machine, you could sew a slipcover like infochick suggested. I sewed ones for 12 x 12 postbound ones, it would work for a smaller one, too.

I agree with sewing a slipcover. Heidi Swapp is offering this Christmas album www.scrapbook.com/store/ac-314797.html You could do a linen cover and some easy embroidery. Should be simple or even use some better quality felt.

Thank you everyone I did think of a slipcover at first but I’d have to remove the metal label holder on the spine then, I think if I covered it I could probably work around it.. perhaps! Spray adhesive sounds like the way to go then.

Maybe this one wasn’t an Ashley one.. I have her white one with the black hearts, and this one is pink and gold in a thick diagonal stripe. It could just be a Studio Calico maybe?

I don’t have any advice but thank you for asking the question. I have an album from Studio Calico that has discoloured in the sun and I’m desperate to cover it up.

Ren I'm going to be of no help whatsoever because I actually like that modern take on the classic candy cane stripe album cover... I hope you and peachiceteas figure out the answer. I'd go with adhesive fabric that some niche craft brands sell, personally. But that's the lazy scrap gal in me talking... You could replicate this by meticulously applying strips of large double-sided adhesive to the album before doing the "wrap" in a tightly woven fabric. It would require being careful when doing the wrap (making sure the album is folded when you work your way to the "back") and working in sections (cover - spine - back cover) but is completely doable.

I also love the album as is but if you do decide to cover please show us how it comes out. I’m sure a lot of us have albums that could be done.

My sil does a pink & white Christmas tree so she would simply have to embellish the front with a title & maybe a Christmas sticker. Lol I also vote for the slip cover. If you try to cut around the name plate and glue it down many fabrics will fray.

i've done it a couple of ways:
-i have peeled off the slick coating and decoupaged over the whole cover. -i have covered it with fabric (you know, how people did those fabric albums back in the early 90's)

I think Kelly Purkey and even Ali Edwards offered pink Christmas kits at one time. I like the Gold and Pink Striped album as is.

After seeing the photo, I really love the album. Kaisercraft has done a few Christmas/holiday collections that feature pink (Sparkle and Christmas Wishes come to mind). I think combining some of those papers or embellishments with some less traditional holiday supplies would make a lovely December Daily.

Do you know what? After reading your comments I think I’ll leave it as it- I love the description of it being a take on a modern candy cane! The Christmas lines I use generally have pink in them and I’m not a super matchy December Daily person anyway (I describe my schemes as Christmas vomit!) so perhaps I can stick a sparkly gold tree to the front and call it done. Thank you for helping!
