I don't think I've ever shopped there, but I've found a few things online that I like and have a couple of questions. 1. Do their clothes fit according to their posted size guide? 2. Do they have site-wide sales very often? I googled for online coupons but didn't run across anything that works. I hate paying full price and knowing my luck the minute I place an order, they'll have a sale. Thanks a bunch!

They have sales quite often. If you are in love with a popular item, a lot will sell before it hits sales. If you can be flexible in your picks, you are more likely able to wait for a sale. Sizing tends to be about right, although comments can reveal exceptions, so they are worth reading. I really like Talbots and find their clothes still to be of good quality. They have changed some things compared to years ago, but you can still do well.

I shop Talbots. They have sales a lot (every couple of weeks or so...more online in the person IMHO) but if I LOVE something, I get it when I see it. My local store sells out of my size quickly. Their sizing is pretty true to their size charts, so check them and definitely read the comments to see if anyone notes any weird size issues. If my store is out of something I love they will usually offer to track down the color and size I want and have it shipped to me for free. They send coupons out every quarter if you are signed up for their rewards program. Or, atleast I think its every quarter. Here's a link for their coupons that are working.

Here's my referral link to save 25% off. refer.talbots.com/s/Michelle10134903I'm not sure if it works only on full price items, but thought I'd share. I think their stuff is mostly true to size, but definitely read the comments. I'd also suggest going to a store and trying stuff on to see how you fit in their clothes in general.

I find the size chart is 90% accurate but if you are on the cusp of a size, size down.

I've shopped at Talbot's for years and I find their sizing to be pretty consistent, with a few exceptions here and there. As someone already suggested, the reviews are pretty helpful as far as sizing goes.
If you sign up for e-mails, there is always something on sale. (One week it's tops, the next week it's pants, etc.). If you buy something and it goes on sale within a week or ten days (I can't remember their exact policy), they will refund the difference between the price you paid and the sale price.

I just got a new catalog and there was an ad for for an in-store sale August 19-September 2. 25% off your regular price purchase. I bet if you check online then, there will be an online sale as well. This will be there 'Fall Style Event'.

Longggggg time Talbots shopper here. I was just in there this afternoon and am acquiring a few too many new pieces! Wait until tomorrow to pull the plug on an order. I was told that a storewide sale of 25% off on all full-price items begins tomorrow. My salesperson is holding my stack of goodies and I'll pop back in tomorrow and pick them up. Also, if you are near a shop and go in to place your order the shipping will be free. I find that there are sales almost weekly. The sales will vary, sometimes pants only, other times blouses, etc. The quality is good compared to much of what's on the market today. I grumble a good bit because I don't feel it's as good as it was 20+ years ago, but I'm an old lady and own it! . For the most part, the sizing is pretty consistent. I like that I can usually buy a pair of petite pants and not have to alter the hem. I used to have the Talbots card and accrue points for gift certificates. A few years ago I cancelled all my store cards and put everything on a Visa that gives me miles instead. You just need to weigh which award option works better for your life.

Same here. I either come out of there empty handed, or with a massive amount of items! I'm loving all the camel colors, as well as the rich jewel-tone sweaters. I was showing DH what I have on hold in the catalog and he mentioned I should pick up the camel wool blazer as well. It's really lovely in person! What are you going for?

Ok mom and **GypsyGirl** I have several items in my cart that are "70% +2" whatever that means. So $70 items are $21. I should probably order them today since they'll probably not be priced as low tomorrow when the other sale starts, is this typically correct? Then buy the other things (which are full price) tomorrow? If it matters, I'll be doing this onliine. The closest 2 Talbots are each a half hour away, and both are in directions I rarely go, so it'll all have to be online. Thank you for your help!

MichyM - Yes, to take advantage of both sales you'll have to do 2 orders. They have decently priced shipping ($8 flat rate for standard shipping), so that's not the end of the world.

I'm sure I will find more once I am in store and trying things on. Im planning on wearing lots of olive green + camel + leopard this fall and it seems Talbots got the memo!

I find they run true to size, but woven shirts fit me weird. I find the shoulders too broad and the top of the arms too narrow. So it’s loose and pulls at the same time. Also, tees tend to shrink a lot in length.
I like the quality and the unique details of the items. Their pants fit me really well without a big gap in the waist at the back. And a lot of their styles come in petite, which really helps me with the fit of jackets and dresses.

Anything else that is full priced, wait until tomorrow. They don't seem to have a central warehouse, so you will probably receive multiple shipments from various stores that have your selections in stock. You can return anything that doesn't work to a store near you, so you don't have to pay return shipping. I ordered some stuff a few weeks ago, and one of the things I returned was a pair of shoes (I loved the way they looked, and they were a steal, but I don't trust myself with suede shoes!). The ladies at my store were super excited about the shoes, as that store typically doesn't carry shoes, so they only see them when people make returns.

the top of the arms too narrow This has been my biggest complaint for the last 7-8 years. I am noticing this year that the sleeves seem to be fuller at the top so hopefully the styles are changing. If I can get one of their raglan sleeves blouses, I have a better shot at it fitting right. Im planning on wearing lots of olive green + camel + leopard this fall and it seems Talbots got the memo! I'll be in the camel + burgundy + teal. That open front sweater in camel is one of my finds. The sweater jacket looks really nice IRL. It would be the perfect weight for a Texas winter. A few weeks ago I was in a local boutique that was holding a Lafayette 148 trunk show. Loads of camel, smokey blues, olive greens. Blazers, duster sweaters and higher waist pants are in. Told DH that it was like looking into my closet (minus the green) in the late 1970's and early 1980's! I suspect my clothing budget is going to take a serious hit this year!

70% of my wardrobe is Talbots! I never pay full price for something. They frequently do 25% off or 40% off the entire store.
As for sizing, S/M/L is very consistent with other brands. The numbered sizes can run a little large. The quality of their clothes is excellent. I'm wearing a shirt right now that I've probably had 10 years and it still looks nice.
Is there a Talbots in your area? You can return items purchased online to the store. You can also have the store order for you if they don't have what you want in stock without paying shipping.

I really like having their credit card for the rewards and extra % off occasionally. I usually get free shipping, but otherwise they have $8 flat rate shipping. I hope you love your purchases, MichyM .

I have shopped there recently. I thought their sizes ran big compared to what size I am with other brands. Not by a lot, but by about 1 size. For example I was looking for size 18 (I have a fat ass! 😂) shorts. 2 different sales clerks looked me up and down and told me that I needed a 14 easily. I said no. I grabbed the 18, 16, and 14. 14 didn’t even remotely it. The 18 was too big. But the 16 fit! It was that way across several different styles of pants and shorts in the store.

I've noticed that at sale time a lot of the inventory comes from stores around the country. They do seem to be getting a little better at inventory control. I almost gave up on Talbots a few years' ago because I would place an order for a pair of pants and a shirt I really wanted, and then I would throw in a pair of earrings just because they were kind of cute and were on sale. I would pay $8.00 for shipping and then I would get a notice that they were sold out of the pants and shirt, but my earrings were on the way. I could return the earrings to my local store, but I was still out $8.00 for shipping. This hasn't happened in a long time, so I'm hoping they have improved their inventory control system. One other thing I've noticed is that when they do their big end of season discounts their inventory fluctuates day to day. They might not have a pair of pants in my size one day, but the next day they do.

Another long time (40 years) Talbots customer here. I am 5' tall and love that almost every item is available in Petite for both Misses and Womans. They have been offering capsule-type collections before it was a thing. It makes it really easy to mix and match. I often buy multiple sizes if I am in doubt about fit because you can just return what you don't want to a store. That may not work in the OP's case because she says she doesn't live close to a store.

I really like Talbot’s but I hadn’t purchased anything in a while. Not until tonight anyway—I’m blaming all of you enablers. I got a couple dresses, a couple light sweaters, a pair of black loafers, and a couple clearance pants. I am loving their dark teal color for fall. I may try to go to the local store this weekend to see some items in person and try them on.
