I googled this and it appears it's at an all time high, but I'm curious--how much are you paying for beef and where do you live?
I just moved to FL. I rarely eat beef, but I picked some up today to make lasgna cupcakes. It was about $4.00/lbs.
Chicken is honestly not much better, but that package of ground beef gave me some serious sticker shock!

I just got ground beef at aldi for 2.99 a pound. I'm not far from you. But you have to search out sales to get those prices. Steaks this week at publix were $7.99 a pound for strips and t-bones I believe.
Beef prices have been raising hugely in the last 2 years.

Gina, that's interesting. I lived in Iowa last winter during the Polar Vortex from hell and a friend of mine is a farmer. He commented on FB that the reason beef prices are so high right now is because they lost a massive amount of their livestock this winter (froze to death). Supply and demand issues and all that jazz I suppose. I don't eat a lot of pork either, but I'll find some recipes if it's cheaper than beef!

lots of cattle death last year...terrible
10% of piglets were lost to a virus earlier in the year
they reported on the news that they seem to have a handle on it now

We buy locker beef and it comes out to $5.25/lb, including butchering and wrapping, for organic, grass fed beef. We buy a quarter, which is enough for a year for us.

I believe it was over $4/lb last time I bought it. Might have been closer to 5. I just paid $1000 for a side of beef and got around 250 pounds.

I don't eat beef but my dh does so occasionally I indulge him . When I picked up a pack of hamburger last week the cheapest, lowest grade started at $4.99/pound. The cost of steaks and roasts make my head spin. Brisket was I believe $8 or $9 per pound. Crazy! It doesn't seem like it was that many years ago that you could buy pounds of hamburger for $.99/lb. I know a pound of bacon is $7 to $9 a package varying by brand. I only buy when it is on a really good sale.

I live in Chicago and it seems like we've been paying around $5 per pound of ground beef. I remember when I could buy a pound of ground beef for $3.49 a pound. Those days are long gone! I remember paying .99 a pound! And I'm not really that old. We pay about $3.49/pound now for ground beef. Other beef is more expensive.

Other than ground beef, the cut I buy the most is flank steak. One of our local store still runs it on sale at $7.99/lb every 4-6 weeks, usually it is $10+.

I rarely buy beef but, holy moley, butter is through the roof right now! I'm still getting good prices on chicken and pork. Wegmans has whole chickens for $.99/lb and chicken breast for $1.99/lb.

Most of the beef I buy is either chuck roast or ground beef. I was paying $4.99/lb for 96/4 non-organic ground beef at Trader Joe's. It has gone up to $5.69/lb now. I am paying $4-$5/lb for chuck roast, either regular price at Costco or on sale at the supermarket. It's annoying, but it guess it is what it is. (I too remember $.99/lb regular ground beef on sale years ago. My income was lower then, too.)

I buy the grass fed ground beef at our organic store occasionally and it's $9.00 a pound! We only buy the good stuff so we don't eat it often.

We enjoy beef but use it 1/week, maybe 2 but not often. It's just the 3 of us besides a newborn due here soon but have been looking into purchasing a quarter side from local cattle ranchers. Now I know a quarter would be just right for us of course my husband thinks otherwise. Anyhow $5.29/lb is a fantastic price. Competitive pricing down here comes to no less than $8/lb including butchering & wrapping. Oh how I miss Oregon lol.

A quarter lasts my family of 4 4-6 months depending on sports schedules.

I live alone though I often share dinner with a friend who lives close. Still, as someone who rarely eats beef, it's not cost effective to buy direct at a time for me. I'll just suck it up and pray this winter is much, much warmer

Wow, these prices! We raise our own so I don't have a clue what it costs per pound (dh probably has it all figured out down to the penny though). I also remember buying ground beef for 99 cents a pound. I think in the late 80's, early 90's.
dh did say cattle market prices are way up right now.

I just paid $5.49 for a shoulder roast on sale last night. Ground round is typically near $4 a pound on sale.

Unless I find a good sale, we seldom have beef anymore. I recently went to buy a blah pot roast and couldn't find one under $16....no thanks.

I would love to be able to do this! How would I go about finding out where to buy it near me? I just paid $5.00/lb for ground beef at Walmart. The cheapest I could find. I can't afford Rib Eye or NY strip these days. They are between $11 and $17/lb. at the local grocery store. Crazy!! Even the meat guys were telling me they can't afford some of the beef they sell. It's just so crazy. And I'm in Texas!!!

I buy Lara's ground beef which is hormone and antibiotic free. The price recently went up to $7.49/lb, but was on sale last week for $5.49/lb. and it's on sale this week for $4.99/lb. I'm stocking up. I don't like other meats much, but luckily I don't have to feed a family.

I go to a produce / meat market, if you buy more than 5lbs its 4.19 per pound. I go about every 3 weeks and buy 6 lbs and break it up into 1 or 2 lb packs and freeze it. This is for a mid grade quality - a step below ground sirloin. We've been eating a lot of chicken and fish lately.
I heard that the issue with the skyrocketing prices was due to a drought in Texas, not sure if that's true.

It's just so crazy. And I'm in Texas!!! Google sides of beef and then your area. I would assume that Texas is similar to colorado in that there are lots of choices. Also small meat processing plants sometimes have retail stores. I happen to buy from ds's classmates family, but nobody around here raises hogs, so I had to Google to find a place. And as far as I have heard, prices went up due to a drought last summer causing feed to go up and water to be scarce. People sold off their livestock because they couldn't afford to feed/water them due to cost. Then the deep freeze in some areas killed more animals.

We bought a side of beef this summer and paid $3.89 a pound. I paid a little extra to have 30 pounds of burgers for the grill. It will last over a year for us. It's a sad, sad day when all the steaks are gone.

I paid $18.99 per pound for Prime New York Steaks, at Costco two weeks ago. I about fell over when I saw the price per pound. But I wanted to grill them for my husband's birthday dinner so I paid the price. In a restaurant those steaks would have cost at least $50.00 a person.
