Cricut midnight release cartridges. The excitement, the anticipation & adding to the Wish List. Those were fun days. Or Thanksgiving Day 50% off. I would literally cook all day then make DH eat within a 1/2 hour so we could be at Michael's when they opened at 5.
This thread is so fun!

LavenderLayoutLady I almost wrote mulberry paper too. I still have a lot of my paper and still look for it. Mulberry paper is so pretty and elegant. @kendramage OMG Do I ever remember the great Menard's deals on Cricut cartridges. At the time my city did not have Menards. I lived vicariously through all the Menard's threads. You were all so lucky. Menard's still has Cricut items around the Holiday season. One of the model scaling forums I read the guys are always grabbing Cricut Explore's during Menard's Black Friday sales. Other trends mentioned- Tags- Forever and ever with me. Paper Piecing- I will love it for life. I think I do at least five paper piecings a month. Deco Scissors- Still use mine. I will give myself a nod. I am good with them. I can make some fancy borders. the punch your art out books. Which I still have - and still sometimes look at for ideas but it’s more die cut your art out for me now Oh my, I loved these books and still have them. I have a not so funny story about the author. She came to Alberta, Canada on a "book tour" (I have a signed copy, that worth millions now..lol) and I asked her when was she due.....she said I'm not pregnant! I was never more embarrassed! I apologized profusely and she was so sweet and said that's ok. I think I went and bought a couple of extra books to give as gifts cause I felt like an idiot. Never assume, you make an ass of u & me. I learned a hard lesson that day. She came out with 3? or just 2? I should go check...

there were THREE punch-your-art-out books; I had to have all of them, lol. And OMG at your story, hockeyfan06 !! I would have been mortified! (but I myself have made that same mistake, too...) I had to have all of those books even though I didn't own that many punches-- they were sooo expensive to buy, at the time, I thought! (little did I know just HOW MUCH $$ I would spend on scrapbooking supplies later, lol.) I had a ton of 'fancy fibers' (eyelash fibers, anyone?!?) that I bought and never used, I had flowers galore... never Prima flowers, though- THEY were too expensive, too- so I bought a whole bunch of flowers from the floral section of the craft store and dismantled them. I was thrifty! Or so I thought- I put those flowers in a glass jar and they sat on my shelf for at least 5-10 years, making me feel guilty every time I looked at them-- I don't USE flowers on my layouts!! Like, EVER!! I finally threw them away last year, I think, lol. I also had quite a few pairs of deco scissors, but I could never get them to line up correctly when I'd use them for cutting, so I got rid of them fairly quickly. I also got rid of most of my Fiskars border punches- couldn't line them up to save my life, either. I *do* wish I had kept that Threading Water one, though- I like that design. The "craze" that I personally spent the most money on was one specific item: I started scrapping thru a Creative Memories instructor, but I switched over to buying 'regular' supplies, so I didn't keep in touch with her. At that time, Creative Memories used to give out (?) a monthly (?) pamphlet to their customers that contained page border and layout ideas; I thought that thing was the bee's knees. (keep in mind that this was back in the mid-late 90s, before there were blogs, Pinterest, or Instagram for inspiration.) There were something like, 75-100 ?? maybe?? of these pamphlets that had been published... and I *NEEDED* them badly, or so I thought- I wanted to have the ENTIRE collection. So I found an auction of the ENTIRE set, on ebay-- I bid on it a few times, the bids kept going up, and I got that 'gotta have it' fever that happens during an auction-- it was so ridiculous!! I ended up paying just over $100 for the entire set!! They all fit into ONE large three-ring binder; I don't know what it was about them that made me want them SOOOO much, but I did... I felt so guilty about the $$ I spent on them that I kept those things for YEARS, even though I stopped scrapping for a period of about 5 years, and I hardly ever used them before that, anyway. I finally put them in the recycle bin, but even then, I still felt bad about how crazy I had gone and the $$ I spent on them.

hockeyfan06 That is such a funny and embarrassing story. I think all of us have been there. I remember the Punch Your Art Out Books. My library had them. I would check them out all the time admiring all those beautiful creations. There was no way I could afford those punches back then but those books led me to other scrapbooking books where I learned about paper piecing with coloring pages. This I could do! That turned me into a piecing monster that now has a huge collection of coloring book pages in a binder. Large amount of coloring pages stored on my computer. I bought a Cricut because I fell in love with their piecing cartridges. Now, I make my own designs. Don't get me started on my love of Jolee's stickers. I remember another one. Baker's Twine. I don't know why we were supposed to love Baker's Twine so much. I really don't remember, lol. I bought mine at Dollar Tree. I still use it all the time. I can't live without it. I use it in my garden, lol. I also make it bird friendly so they can build their nests with it. My bird friends nests are so colorful and pretty. One of my friends told me "Only you would have artistic bird nests in her yard!" LOL! I love watching them pull out fibers I leave for them. Two of my birds got into a fight one time for a particular fiber, lol. I wrote in an earlier post my other trend was Skittles. Look what I found making a debut at Scrapbook.com in November- www.scrapbook.com/store/dmc-dmcfa4386.html?t2=embellishments&days=30

haha!! what goes around comes around, eh? Maybe I should have kept all my eyelash fibers, after all- they might eventually come back in style, too? (I hope not!!) ETA: who used Magic Mesh on their pages?? Or who remembers those Twistel wrapped-paper fiber things?? I never bought Magic Mesh, but I think I might have tried to use the drywall tape on my pages, lol. And I'm sure I have a couple pages that have the paper twine stuff on. I had to collect all the different foam stamps... And after all that collecting, I used the foam alphas with paint on exactly ONE layout!! I like to think I'm at least a *bit* more thoughtful about what I buy to use in my albums now, but I'm probably not, lol.

Eyelets, MM eyelet setter set, brads and Prima flowers. I still have bottles of flowers that are basically room decor. I also have a ton of glitter beads that I just decided I will use when I scrap my upcoming vacation!

I remember Magic Mesh and I did the same thing—I bought a roll of dry wall tape. It was cheaper and you could could color it with paint. I didn’t use it much though. Twistle was kind of like colored raffia. I think I bought one package and I couldn’t figure out if you were supposed to use it as is or unroll it. Either way it wasn’t one of my favorites.

What haven’t I obsessed over? Remember swaps at 2peass? That was fun. Not on 2ps, but I used to do supply swaps on Lifetime Moments so I could have all the colors of everything...buttons, brads, eyelets, zippers, ribbon, fibers and so on. I know a lot of you will think I'm nuts but October Afternoon paper. Had to have them but have I used them? Nope. I have discovered cutesy isn't my style. Remember that circle cutter that you would have to use it on glass? Bought that one twice because the first time I failed with it and got rid of it. Bought it again because I thought it was user error. Nope, still sucked. Im the same with Oct Afternoon. I saw so many people using it and ooohing and aaahing so bought some and just couldn’t make it work too easily. I think I still have some partially used sticker sheets that I flipped through over and over. I can’t remember if I finally purged them or if they’re deeper in my stash that I don’t go to regularly.

My Sister-in-Law and I collected them. Man, the power my CM consultant had over us at the time - the special stuff they had that we had to earn at crops, etc., - it was a great idea for CM as an incentive for their customers, but it was so frustrating to miss out! Sometimes I really miss the Friday night crops (and occasional Saturday ones) I'd go to with friends and family, and I could carry everything I had in a CM bag, and we scrapbooked and earned prizes all night (or day) while snacking on whatever our consultant baked for us. Those were the days. Oddly enough none of us ever took photos at these events! I'd love a few.

marg I am so envious of your lovely crops. Thank you for sharing. Those are perfect crops. Thinking about crops makes me miss 2Peas Horror Stories. You all made me laugh so hard. Still to this day I giggle about that lady who rang a bell every time she finished a LO. The lady who wrote the story said she wish she had a foghorn, lol. That story stuck with me, ROFL! The sewing machine stories, the hammers, the Sound of Music sing-a-long. Priceless. I guess that is one of my scrapbook crazes I missed out on. I never got to post a horror story, ROFL!

I’ve met bell ringers at crops. Once we figure out what it meant we all looked over to see the layout because they are supposed to hold it up to show everyone.

Funny enough, nobody understood what the bell ringing was about. We had to ask the bell ringers. I don't know if it's particular to the midwest plains states or just an old school crop thing. I didn't attend my first crop until around 2013 or 2014.

Omgosh what? I totally missed hearing about those lol(although I mainly only lurked on the boards because the drama was way over the top for me!)! Hilarious! Foghorn? 😂 That was THE BEST THREAD on 2Peas. You all can argue all you want about best threads but sorry nope you all lost. TwoPeas Horror Stories was the best. ! I remember when Peas closed we were all trying to figure out how to move gallery and important threads over here I was trying to figure out how to move that thread, lol.
Some of the stories were really sad. Some you were just enraged for the OP sharing their story. Most were just hysterically funny. My favorite ones were the elitists at the crops and the Queen Bee's. Those women were just horrendous but so over the top funny. The days of yore when our only drama's were elitist Queen Bee's at crops. How I wish we could go back to the old days, ROFL!

No, Yucky, No, No, Temper Tantrum No! My edges always look like a two year old inked them. Take that back two year olds ink better!
Women who love to ink edges and are good at them! Whatever, Brag, Brag, Brag, ROFL! I am sure you are good at Rosettes too while my Rosettes fly through the air and hit my cat upside the head. DH & I have to hold the rosettes down just so I can glue the little center piece thingy in the middle before the rosette flies through the air again. Pushing those stupid rosettes down take three hours.
I bought all those little ink edgy thingies so I could fail miserably. I am a professional artist. You would think I could ink edges! It's a forever lost paper crafting cause.

inking edges- who would have thought that could be a controversial subject, lol?!? haha. I do it sometimes, but not too often. And that's mainly because once I start, I think EVERY edge needs ink or else it looks too naked, and then it takes way too long for me to get anything done! (mine only look good if I use the Tim Holtz round inking tool; if I try to use either the straight-edged one or the ink pad directly, it looks crappy.) as for Crop Horror Stories, we do have some of them, if not all- when 2Peas closed, there were some people who managed to save some of the 'old classic' threads and move them over here. The NSBR board has a sub-board titled "History of the Peas" and one of the threads is the Crop Nightmare Stories thread.

I definitely jumped on the Threading Water punch bandwagon and HAD TO HAVE IT. I did find it and I still use it occasionally! ! This was the first punch I ever bought. I had no idea it was such a big deal. I just bought it because it reminded me of eyelet lace. Still use it occasionally.
My bandwagon was the freaking decorative scissors. I had over 20 pairs. I donated them to my kiddos school. They were happy to have them. I kept the creative memories ones for sentimental reasons.....
