My daughter, Shona, all decked out in her choir concert gown. I Knew that was a chorus dress. LOL What grade is she in? She's a Freshman this year. I can't believe that dress cost almost as much to alter as it did to purchase! I wish they'd let her bring the pearls home or let me get a good picture of her in them with the dress.

My ds and I last Saturday. He is in Florida right now with my husband. I took this right before he left, not the greatest, but I look at it when I'm missing him. Yes, it is a selfie. I hate being away away from my baby, but I know he is having fun with our extended family. Dd and I could not go due to her sport obligations. Never again will I allow a high school sport to stand in the way of family time. Stupid, stupid, stupid decision.

I love these photo threads! Always such a great variety of subjects, and often interesting stories to go along with them. And it is always nice to see people's families. This was inspired by an idea I saw on pinterest, that I wanted to recreate as a surprise for dh's birthday. I bought 21 helium filled balloons, one for each year we have been together. To each one I tied a handwritten note with a reason why I love him. Then I let them float to the ceiling of our bedroom. He loved it and was quite touched.

I got the 2nd Lt part...I guessed at the Commissary part...but couldn't distinguish the letters...Anyone know what MFHS means? (and yes, I tried google) When I Googled it came up with many High Schools but there was also Moffett Field Historical Society which I suppose could have a bearing if there is a Moffett Field anywhere near you? Could it be that was where the photo originally came from, they provided the photo to your family or identified his rank? There were other hits with an M-name and then the words Family History Society. There were also a number of hits for NFHS (I can't tell if it's an M or N on the photo) but they mainly seemed to be in Australia. The problem with those initials being part of the description is we assume it actually relates to your grandfather's service whereas it might not. If that makes any sense! Is there anything written on the back? I've just looked a bit further and elsewhere the initials stand for Military Funeral Honours on a veterans page. Maybe there was someone of note in the military whose funeral he may have taken part in at that time? I love your family history photos, they are great things to have; such a treasure.

I'm guessing the commisary actually is commissioning. Aka when he was made an officer.

Thanks for all the hints to pursue on the soldier photo. I don't have the actual photo...only the image...I'm going to have to call or email my Aunt to see if there's anything on the back OR if she knows what anything written on the picture really means. She's the only one in the family that would know. (I will post an update if she has info)

About the soldier photo: Husband said it is probably not the word commissary, because although a 2nd Lieutenant could be in charge of the commissary, this uniform seems to show he was a Combat Lieutenant based on the crossed rifles which indicate infantry. Still working on the MFHS. He said that often a service member designates in letters or on photos their post. For example when he was active duty, his officer wrote a letter for him and it was signed with his name, rank, and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Do you know where he was stationed?

Also, are you sure the 96 means the year 1896? Because it could have been his unit. That appears to be a Civil War uniform and that war ran from 1861-1865. Just a possibility.

My husband and I celebrated turning 48 a few weeks ago by participating in the Tough Mudder Challenge - over 10 miles of terrain running in West Virginia, with 20 or so obstacles through mud and water, etc. Toughest thing I've ever done. And super fun! I'm the only girl in this picture and my husband is behind me in the yellow. His college roommate is beside us with the GoPro on his head - those videos are hilarious. Crawling through mud and rocks under barbed wire - Happy Birthday to Us! (Whoa - will go back and resize) ![]()

one of my favorite Halloween pics of DD the flower and DS the wolf from about ten years ago. We usually made up costumes but found these at Sams for about $15. Warm and could wear clothes under. Just dug it up to put in Halloween frame I just picked up. They (used to be) so cute! Love all the photos!

LOVE all the photos!! Here's my puppy Canon and my older pup Starsky. Canon's slowly gaining on Starsky. He weighs about 35 lbs now. My girls played soccer for the first time and they're hooked! We've already signed up for indoor soccer, which should start up in a few weeks! Both of my girls are in this photo. DD 1 is the red jersey in the center near the ball and DD 2 is on the far left also in a red jersey.

Thanks for asking your DH about it. I have not yet contacted my Aunt...but it's on a list to do. You guys have given me great questions to ask her because I know so very little. No idea where he was stationed.

I'm assuming the year is 1896 because he looks so young and fresh faced and I am certain his year of birth is 1878...so I know he did not fight in the Civil War.
