Yes.
Dh and I had genetic testing done before we tried to get the pregnant. We are both ashkenazi Jewish descent so are therefore at risk for certain diseases. We were negative yet I tested positive as a carrier for a rare genetic disorder. Dh was negative. They actually only tested me and then tested dh once something popped up as positive.
I considered getting tested for the breast cancer gene because my paternal ain’t had breast cancer. She was still alive then and told me she had tested negative so the geneticists decided not to test me.

I do wish I could get the colon cancer testing though. My grandmother died very young from it, my mom is slowly dying from it, my one sister has had two and a half feet of intestine removed with precancerous cells. My late sister had chrohns disease. My other sister and I have ongoing unspecified gi issues. A genetic colon cancer test would lower my anxiety greatly, or make my decision to get bagged much easier. why can't you? this type of family history sure sounds like genetic testing should be covered, due to risk factors. Or do the insurance companies say that there isn't anything hereditary about this type of cancer? if so, that's lame. I agree with the previous poster who said you'd think insurance companies would rather people get tested if it would lead to taking preventive measures instead of having to pay out for more expensive TREATMENT of the disease, whatever it is. It was either the full endo/colon scopes or the genetic test. I’m not sure why. Since I have on going gi issues, the scopes were important. But I’d like the genetics too.

I am actually going for genetic testing. I lost one cousin to a heart attack at 47 and he was the picture of health. My other cousin had a heart transplant at 53 and had genetic testing done and he has the TTN genetic mutation. His doctor recommended we all go for genetic testing. I have an appointment Monday to discuss with my doctor.
