I prefer CC to be used on a TV with no volume in a public place (waiting room, restaurant, gym, etc.) but have never used it at home.

I use it for everything I watch on my laptop because the sound just isn't as loud as it is from the TV. It is essential for anything from CBS.com because they broadcast in such a low volume.

Yup, it’s on all the time. My son prefers it that way. It definitely helps with any British accents.

I like it in public spaces so everyone isn’t disturbed by the noise pollution.
At home, we almost never use it.

We just started to use it about a month ago. There are so many shows where they mumble, talk so fast, have foreign accents, or use jargon we can’t distinguish. It has been helpful.

Yes, my husband's hearing is quite poor even with hearing aids so cc is essential in our house. And even though my hearing is fine I watch many foreign films on my Kindle and I've grown used to watching everything now with cc. It's unfortunate that a better system hasn't been devised though for live broadcasts like news and sports programs. The delays and misspelled words on those are really distracting.

Yes, DH has significant hearing loss, so it makes TV watchable for him. You get used to it really quickly. It was indispensable for the SOA season filmed in Northern Ireland.

all the time. We like to keep the volume a little lower so we can still have conversations and not have the tv blaring over us

With DH giant booming speakers (that make the background noise/music on TV and movies too loud and the voices too quiet) and kids that never stop talking, it's the only way I can understand what's going while watching shows...

I have no hearing impairment, but I like CC because I process information visually.
My husband has a significant degree of hearing loss and doesn’t like CC at all. He doesn’t enjoy watching TV with me when I have it on.

I have Directv and use cc. I find it quite amusing with some of the spelling !! Sometimes it’s really crazie. 😊

Only for foreign language shows. Otherwise like you said, I find it too distracting and I find myself reading them instead of watching and listening.
DD insisted on turning them on when we were watching Derry Girls because she couldn’t quite get her ear around the Irish accents. At the time I was sitting next to an Irish girl at work, so I was well tuned into the accent.

I used to but my hubby can’t handle it. Too distracting. It was great when the kids were little, I could still follow my program no matter how loud the kids were.

I started using it while watching Designated Survivor-Kiefer Sutherland always seemed to be mumbling & I couldn’t understand him so I turned it on. I liked it, so I never turned it off.

I've never thought to turn it on. Surprised to read that so many people without hearing impairment use it regularly.

No. It drives me bonkers because I don’t actually pay attention to the show.

Never. I would find it way too distracting. I don’t have a problem hearing/understanding dialogue so it never occurred to me. I’m surprised to find so many use it!

I use it, but only on my master bathroom TV--when I turn on the jets in my bathtub (or turn on my hair dryer), I can't hear the tv anymore! Definitely a first world problem, but I was pretty pleased with myself when I figured out how to keep watching TV during a long bath!

We use it all the time, and would have never known what President Kirkman said in Designated Survivor had it not been for CC. He spoke so low and mumbled too much. Miss that show!

Years ago, I watched a movie with my nieces, one of whom is deaf. I was surprised by how much I liked the captions, and started using them when I could. Now DS and DIL graciously keep them on the TV for me all the time, as I have hearing loss.

Yes I use it and did long before my hearing started to deteriorate. I sometimes couldn't sort the speech out from background noise in the programming.

I do because apparently I can’t hear shit half the time. Drives my family nuts. I don’t use it for news or reality shows... anything that is live or fast as it doesn’t keep up with the voices.

You betcha!! I love it for shows where there are thick accents. Game of Thrones was essential...I caught so much more once I started watching it with CC.
