We only drink Fairlife milk, and it’s currently $3.89- $4.29 a half gallon. Which seems the norm amongst the stores we shop. I drank Fairlife exclusively for the past year. It's not even a half gallon, it's 52 ounces and here that 52 ounces is between $3.69-$4.99 depending on the store. I can't handle it anymore and switched to Costco brand lactose free milk. It tastes better and it's the same price as Fairlife but for a full half gallon. We’ll try it! We’re going to Costco this weekend. Thanks!

The “new” cheese thing around us is grilled/fried haloumi cheese.
I think Greek restaurants set it on fire at the table, but we are finding it in bags that you can grill or fry (we like frying it in a non-stick skillet and it’s salty cheesy perfection!

I have never heard of pancakes for dinner as a Lent tradition. Or is it for the day before? Me either and I’m Catholic! 🤣🤣🤣 Now we do bake potatoes pancakes for dinners on Fridays during Lent. We made dirty rice and grilled shrimp! Yummy! Dessert—maybe ice cream. When we were little we had either cheese pizza or grilled cheese or Mac-n-cheese 🧀 We don’t necessarily “give up” for Lent, we tend to take up something, and given the war in Ukraine, we’re talking about pooling our family money and giving it to help Ukraine. We just are not sure to where yet. When kiddos were little we gave each (plus us) a calendar covering all the days of Lent, we sat down and wrote one thing that we would do to help someone else—could be anything—acts, kind words, money, gifting. We do more of a family version now, and while we haven’t each written a calendar in a few years, it seems to “have stuck” and has been remembered we see out of the blue compliments, favors, wanting to do something for another…

EVERYTHING. Seriously, every time I go to the store I am shocked. The lastest is an 18oz (large) package of grape tomatoes. I swear, just a few months ago they were $4.99. Now they're $7.29 And OMG, Organic ground turkey $11.99lb. Hard pass on that. I cannot wait for the local growing season. I sure hope produce prices at the farmer's markets aren't too terribly out of whack. Yikes!!!!! We just bought grape tomatoes and they were $2.99 at Aldi—but they had only a little not stacks like usual. We sat down and planned out bigger gardens this year, we bought a bunch of tomato varieties and a bunch of herbs. We cannot wait to start, but have to figure out how to keep the chipmunks away—they ruin 95% of our patio/containers gardens! We are fortunate to know a couple who has a farm, and we can go help harvest and come home with “earned” fruits and vegetables.

Lunch meat... Oscar Meyer sliced turkey is $7.49 a pound, which is about $2.00 more than I am willing to pay... we'll just eat peanut butter and jelly! It might just be out of season but the canatalope I wanted to buy was $3.79 at least that was not per pound, but per fruit. I also needed a can of cream of mushroom soup and it was $1.19 per can and that's for the store brand. Coffee creamer seems to still be $2.99-$3.50 (depending on brand). Do you have an Aldi’s near you? (Mushrooms are a great price there) If so, make your own cream of mushroom soup—it’s easy, fast and delicious! I slice up or dice the mushrooms, sauté them in butter, sweating them out (leave a little liquid) and add salt and a little bit 1/8 teaspoon ground thyme (a little thyme goes a loooong way). Either stir in a bit of flour and Add half/half a little at a time. If you’re gluten free, omit the flower and make a cornstarch slurry with a tablespoon of cornstarch and 1/4 cup water. Add the half and half and the slurry and heat up. You control them thickness by how much starch you add. Stays nice in fridge for about a week.

Dairy is definitely the one area where I've seen huge price increases. I get all my dairy at Aldi and it's gotten quite expensive. We only drink Fairlife milk, and it’s currently $3.89- $4.29 a half gallon. Which seems the norm amongst the stores we shop. A local dairy supplies our local grocery chain, so we get cottage cheese, sour cream…when they have their BOGO. I haven’t noticed a big increase in those here (yet). We get block cheese (we shred our own) from Aldi and that hasn’t gone up, and other fancy cheeses from Whole Foods, Trader Joes, and specialty stores. There has been a little increase but not big enough to make us stop buying it (yet)

For a while, bacon was $10.29 per package (12-16 oz). It appears to have come down a bit now Bacon is $8.99 a package here. Luckily, we get ours from the butcher and it’s around $6 a pound

Good luck on finding half and half. It has been hit or miss in all of the stores in my area for several months. It has been especially hard to find fat free and/or the pint size, which I prefer because the quart size goes bad before I finish it. Aldi has not yet had a shortage of half/half here and that is the only dairy that I buy there (we don’t like their milk).

I ran to the one grocery to stock up on dairy and coffee creamer.
We buy the coffeemate flavored creamers for home and work, usually 2 for $7 ($3.50 each, regularly $3.99) oh my gosh—the were $5.29 now—the skyrocketed $1.30 in just a few weeks.
Looks like we are going to start making our own or using half-n-half!
What big price increases are you seeing?

Lindt white chocolate with coconut. As far as I know, it has never been available in the UK. I used to buy it decades ago in Europe, where it was known as Copaya. I buy a few bars every time I visit the US, and DS’s GF brings me some every time she comes to visit. In fact, she is this week's favourite child, because she arrived yesterday with four bars, as well as a large bag of coconut clusters from Costco, that are a bit like crack cocaine to me! 😄 I buy 2 bags of the Coconut clusters (white and orange bag?) every time we go to Costco. We have one in my car or at work (and when my boss goes to Costco he gets bags too!) and another for the house.

Was reading the thread on how people make their tuna fish and one person mentioned putting Dukes mayo is theirs. I can't get Dukes mayo in Minneapolis. (Moved here 2-1/2 yr. ago) from the east coast. I miss it It's the best mayonnaise. I've been back to Balto. and could bring some back in my suitcase but. . . What do you miss where you live? I can send you some!! I never gave trouble finding it in Ohio.

If you're ever on the Oregon Coast, you can get cheese curds at the Tillamook Cheese Factory, if you can find a parking space... we get them when we go camping. Also A & W. This thread hijack is making me hungry, and thinking I live in the wrong part of the country... although Jell-o salad, ew! I love Tillamook cheese, but I just don't get cheese curds 🤷♀️ ETA: I wonder if it's because the cheeses I like the most are generally aged. Maybe they curds just don't have enough cheesy flavor for me. Oh I love cheese curds that are salty!

“The student was put on too loose of a chain,” said a parent.
“With proper administration, the situation could have possibly been prevented,” said the student.
“The kid has reportedly been expelled from Concord, from Elkhart Schools and from Jimtown Schools for the first semester. He came back in January and has been sent to the office 30 times, reportedly,” said another parent.
So the community is victim blaming.
No matter any of those thing—even if true is any reason to slap a student.

" A Jimtown High School teacher has requested early retirement, Baugo school officials say, after he was captured on video striking a student with enough force to cause visible injuries. Baugo officials said in a press release Friday that the teacher, Mike Hosinski, is no longer with Baugo Community Schools and is not allowed on school grounds. The incident, which occurred Friday morning, has been referred to the Indiana Department of Child Services and the Elkhart County Sheriff's Department, school officials said Friday."
This is the SAME GUY who did this, back in 2019
"According to an NIA document posted on the organization’s website, “Hosinski has a history of state/church violations at Jimtown High School that has ranged from his teaching topics to his classroom decor.” Signs and bumper stickers hanging on the classroom walls feature a range of content from religious to anti-liberal propaganda.
In photos obtained by NIA, some of the posters and stickers found in the classroom said things like “Proud to be a conservative,” “Choose life, your mom did” and “Liberalism is a mental disorder.”..."
Hosinski told the class Hillary and Obama are criminals, President Donald Trump is great, and Democrats are liars. He told them abortion should be illegal,” the statement complaint alleged. “My student says ‘he told the class Bill Clinton’s friend takes little girls to a sex island and anyone who finds out is killed. Korea has nukes, something about Muslims taking over, and something about gay people getting married.’”..:
When these guys show you who they are, believe them and stop letting them NEAR children.
He needs long jail time. Jesus Christ. It’s ASTOUNDING to me that people just cannot hold these violent conservatives accountable. Violence, demeaning, screaming is their thing.

Yup. The ACLU is bringing a challenge, but, to keep reminding people, these are kids and parents who are being made to live in constant fear so that politicians can score points with voters who demonize trans people (often without realizing they know trans people). I hate them. What the fuck is wrong with people???

So we have the separation of cheese curd Midwest. I also do not love cheese curds. I can eat them, but meh. I would rather eat Runza fries. I am sorry Missouri, I lump you with the South, except for Kansas City. Heading East through Missouri feels way more like being in the South especially the local accents. My daughter went to college in St. Louis. I drove I-70 many times. On a recent trip to visit family in KC, we saw more confederate flags flying in southwest Missouri than I've ever seen in Texas. I was shocked. Depending on where you are in Ohio, you’ll see quite a bit of those too. I was shocked but we were driving somewhat rural in an area we had never been and it looked like mini compounds.

I just snapped at a co-worker because she interrupted me and tried to talk over me for the bajillionth time. I did apologize to her, but really? She's 42 years old and I feel like she should have basic conversational skills by now. I really only talk with her at lunch - she's a teammate of mine - and sometimes I don't go because she dominates every conversation by talking over me and our other teammate. When she does this, I usually just stop talking entirely for that lunch period. She does not take the hint. Do you know anyone like this? How do you handle them? I stop talking and find an exit out. If I’m talking in a meeting and people start looking at their phones or reading other stuff or talking to someone else, I just stop.

LOL. Nah, we guys don’t have cheese curds. Most of us, at least. Wisconsin does. Maybe Minnesota? I’ve never had one. If we learn anything from this here thread, maybe it’s that most Brits don’t use “One” as a pronoun (pity, that), 10 of 12 Midwestern states do not have cheese curds, and Ohioans are So-not-Midwestern. (I’m not quite sure what to make of that one.) Left unlearned - as yet – is whether cheese curds can be put in Jell-O salads. Minnesota also has cheese curds. I grew up in Iowa and the bowling alley had "cheese balls" which essentially were the same, except maybe different type of cheese? I am not sure. That was my only experience with something of that nature prior to living in MN. First time I had cheese curds was when I was visiting a friend in Iowa, and we traveled to the north west of Iowa, crossed over to Minnesota for a scrapbooking retreat!!

i agree what are you then lol? I want to visit the 3 Cs (do you call them that?) Columbus, Cincinnati, and Cleveland It’s just a fun debate. I’ve lived just outside two of the 3 Cs. You’ll be in food heaven at any of the three. (We have cheese curds!) Yes! We do have cheese curds here! Lol I fell in love with cheese curds on a trip to Iowa and Minnesota—-couldn’t find them here or see them here until several years after my westerly trip.

And just like that, the "you're a selfish asshole who wants grandmas to die if you don't wear a mask" went away... So what I’m hearing is that you expected us to substitute your judgment for the CDC’s on when it was reasonable to stop masking. I know you have no love for the CDC, but how much crazier would I have to be to base my decisions on the advice of a stranger on the internet? (You may not agree with me, but I’ve been nothing if not consistent in who I listen to for Covid advice.) ^^^ That.

Where my Ohio peeps at? We’re all just thoroughly confused as to why we’re considered Midwest! Oh so not Midwest! Here in winter, we drive around pot holes the size of moon craters and small ponds, in spring those pot holes become hidden with rain, mud, flooding (we do flood a lot!) and our cars are getting repaired, going into summer and autumn it’s all orange cones and construction! No one goes the speed limit, everyone’s in a hurry, and anyone wearing a hat is a terrible driver!!!! 🤣🤣🤣
