No one would have known my reasons if it were not for those who called me names on this thread. I would not have posted again if it weren’t for their posts. It a humanity choice. Yes a humanity issue, regarding a proposed bill in Florida backed by their governor. I'm not saying you're wrong in any way for your feelings or reasons behind them, but continuing to pretend it wasn't political is tiring. Nighty night. IT is clear it’s hard to escape the term “political” from you all, and I’m truly not pretending, when I’m speaking of it from a humanity issue. My participation would have ended with my first post, the OP responded after I posted and It was totally fine. It wasn’t until 2 other peas started calling me names that I clarified further, not once disparaging the OP. (Those criticizing me might want to take a stab at the other 2 peas for a bit  ) LBGTQIA rights hit home right in my family. I am first hand watching a trans teen struggle with being bullied, contemplating self harm, end of life at 15. I don’t see any of that as political, but to you it might just be. So I’ll acknowledge your feelings on it. It’s not political for me. My family member (nor any other LBGTQIA for that matter) should not ever be reduced to some political fodder and that’s how I feel. |

No you didn’t. Neither of my first 2 posts were political. It wasn’t until post #6 (not mine) that turned the thread to politics. The one thing I respect about you is that you are very transparent, open and we all know where you stand. I don’t think it was a carefully worded statement you meant what you meant and because you are transparent anyone that has been on this board often knows what you meant. But let’s be honest the sentiment behind your post about never going to Florida because of political reasons. That is your right and I am not arguing over your stance. I simply feel that we don’t need to bring political opinions into everything here and this was the thread I chose to bring it up because she was just asking for a recommendation for lodging. My first post was not political. I specifically chose not to “be political” in my post—it wasn’t until 2 others started calling me names that I further clarified. My post clearly, tongue-in-cheek, responded to the OP (after no one else did for quite a few hours) that “I was of no help…” OTHERS turned it into the crap fest that it turned out to be. Im not being obtuse, ingenious or coy about this either, but please—harbor the hand-slaps towards those who actually turned the thread to what it became! |

My husband and I planned to buy a house in Florida so we can spend Oct.-April there when he retires. We love hot and sunny weather and we are currently in the state with the least sunny days. We also wanted to travel and spend a some time in Texas. At this point, I have no interest in spending money in either state. I may change my mind later, but I am just done right now. Yes, this! One of our only “voices” may be where we choose to spend our money. We’re choosing places that are not trying to hurt, eradicate, kill off people because of who they are. |

The 3rd and 4th posts were probably snarky…after almost 20 hours of no response to the OP. The shit stirring started on post#6. I would have taken it exactly the same way in a Disney post, to be honest. I'm not here to fight about Florida but I do think it's a little silly to try and pretend that's not what was being implied, referenced, suggested, however we want to put it. Clearwater is beautiful, and lots of fun. All sorts of water sports, beaches, good food,etc. you’ll broil to death in August, lol but go float in the gulf and you’ll be fine. Florida is way more than its perceived politics, don’t let anyone flying their sanctimony flag to disuade you from exploring wherever you like. I’m in SWFL 4 months a year and find many people that have the same ideals and political beliefs that I do. Not being sanctimonious…being real.
