and tomorrow. Sending comfort and ease to have a smooth and simple experience on the supposed busiest shopping day of the year. I'm in retail and I'm scheduled to work tonight and tomorrow. Thinking of all of you so we can all get through this together.

Thank you to all that work the holiday.
I love stopping for a coffee on Thanksgiving while driving to my parents house. I love making the baristas day by tipping them generously. I also appreciate the stores that are open for any forgotten items.

Thanks for the kind thoughts.
I work retail, and it'll be like facing down a hungry bear this morning. I already can't wait to come back home.

I'm about to go out there and witness it myself for round 2. I did something different last night which I feel made it much easier. I didn't give in so much to what I was "supposed to do" and instead I did a little of what I was instructed to do and a little of what I felt comfortable doing instead. For instance, we were told by management to not have tunnel vision. But it was more comfortable for me to have tunnel vision and be one on one with the customer, instead of looking around to see how long the line was of customers to be rung up and so forth, because that just drains my energy, and I needed it for me to work and stay sane

Two of my direct managers were there, all stressed out because FOUR of their higher bosses were in store today, chewing them out. What happens is that employee hours are cut daily to balance daily profits (or lack of reaching expected profits). Then entire store suffers because there is a cashier shortage, causing longer lines, and there is a backlog of freight in the stockroom when receivers are sent home before truck can be broken down, sorted, and distributed throughout the store. And yet somehow management can't see that the backlog can't be resolved when you allow fewer employees less hours to work. I just decide to let go of all thoughts of work as soon as I walk out the door.

Thinking of all of you so we can all get through this together. I went in one store today - I usually skip Black Friday but I couldn't resist 50% off of one item. I have to say the salespeople were so nice, kind and polite to everyone (and the store was very crowded) it was a pleasant experience. I hope you had a wonderful day!

I had a young man help me at Best Buy today. I showed him my phone with what I wanted and he took me right to the spot. I jokingly said that if he could fly me over all of the customers waiting in line, I'd be thrilled. He laughed and took me to a side register, went to another register to find me a gift card and then rang me up. It took me longer to find a parking spot than buy two things in that overly packed store. He wasn't wearing a name tag, so I asked his name and will send corporate and email telling them how helpful and just generally kind he was.
If you are working today or tomorrow, please know that many of us truly appreciate the help and smile you offer in a miserable setting with some pretty grumpy customers.

A huge thank you to all of you that work retail. I really appreciate you! Dh and I have gone out the last few years not looking for anything specific. We're super patient and extra friendly to everyone, especially to anyone working. We were so impressed last night with how well stocked the stores were and with how many staff were there. Everyone was happy, very helpful and it was actually a really great experience.

All of my cashiers today were great. I always feel bad at Joann, they have to ring up each sheet of paper separately. We were able to have a nice chat while she rang me up. Each sheet of paper was 75% off, plus my military discount. I’m stocked with card stock for cards now!

I just decide to let go of all thoughts of work as soon as I walk out the door. Oh my goodness, that's awful and unfortunately I can relate to that with my store. My store doesn't usually work that way but it did last night. We were slower that we thought we were going to be and we were already over in hours for the week. And dd's job is in restaurant and constantly she will text me to pick her up much earlier than she's scheduled to be off because of it being slow. I just don't feel that this way of making sales works anymore. There's too much pressure and expectations for the employees and customers (like expecting them to sign up for a points card if they don't already have one). I truly feel this way is fading out quickly. No more going by the numbers. I don't play that game anymore. We usually keep tally of when we sign any one up for a points card next to each of our names. But yesterday and today we only had one area for tallying. And it seemed to work better that way and we got more tallies. It looked like a team, rather than the individual boxes we usually use. Yes, definitely don't take that energy home with you. I'm working on not taking on so much of it even when I'm still at work, because it drains my energy and then it's harder to work like that.
