This has been the absolute worst Thanksgiving break ever! I won't go into all the details....but this just took it over the top in the frustration level. My dd came home from college Tues night and had to bring her cat. Last night the cat peed on my sofa! There are two freaking litter boxes available for her but she chose my linen and feather sofa to relieve herself on last night.
...and she didn't just get one seat cushion...oh no...she managed to hit two of the three cushions. I took the linen covers off and the feather holding parts cover parts. I can't tell if it soaked into the foam parts or not. I will spray some of that enzyme stuff on them and hope for the best.
I do have a protection plan on the sofa, but they are closed for the holiday so I can't call them now until Monday. I am beyond livid! Today is our Thanksgiving day, but instead of getting into the kitchen to start cooking, now I have this mess to try and deal with. (Of course...she is out shopping today...)
I know it is futile to try and clean the linen and the feather cushion liners so I just put them outside.
The protection plan should replace them....but that will probably take weeks, so I guess I will be without a sofa for awhile. UGH! I really don't like that cat. Trying so hard not to get too upset but DANG IT~I did not need this today!

I'd be locking the cat up in my daughter's room. It's been my experience that once they pee somewhere it's really hard to get them to stop. I had a cat that would pee by my front door. I tried every enzyme cleaner and nothing truly gets rid of the scent. It's been 5 years and I still smell it sometimes.

I feel your pain. I would be beyond livid, too. I’m glad you got the protection plan.
Why is your daughter out shopping and not dealing with this herself? I would at least make her be there to suffer with you,

She left at 5:30....I noticed it when I woke up at 8am. If she were in her own car I would for sure be having her come right home! ...but she went with her friends and someone else drove them all. The cat is locked in the dog crate for now.

We had cats spraying on the side of our house. Hydrogen peroxide worked to take away the smell.

In the short term, I’d try a vinegar and water mixture. For future reference, I swear by My Pet Peed for pet accidents: My Pet Peed

.but that will probably take weeks, so I guess I will be without a sofa for awhile. After it's dry and waiting for the replacement linen why can't you use it? I would just cover the stain with a tucked in blanket and use my sofa. I have a feather sofa so I feel your pain

I’d be dragging my couch outside.
And my DD WOULD be home dealing with it.

My animals are quarantined 3 days to a week before Thanksgiving/holidays while I'm cleaning and cooking. Sounds like the cat was marking her new spot. Angry Orange concentrate works well on my rugs and front door. There was a spritzing war going on at my front door. Cats don't like the citrus scent.

I'm so sorry I would be so upset. Cats love to pee on new things and the cat was probably nervous in a new environment. I would probably be soaking the entire cushion in water and bleach. Or I would asap call in a professional cleaner. And lock the cat in her room with a litter box.

I’m so sorry, my cat did that on my new velvet sofa two years ago. I had the covers dry cleaned and sprayed a whole bottle of cat pee spray, but it still smells when you get close to it. I’ve used baking soda, put the cushions out in the sun, etc. Nothing has worked. We just live with it but we don’t use the sofa much.

The only thing I've found that removes the smell (most of the time) is Nature's Miracle. Spray to soak, let it air dry, then repeat. I've used it on a down comforter and it took the smell out. It doesn't take out stains, though. It works even better if you let it dry in the sun.
Ugh, I'd be keeping the cat locked in DD's room with her litter box. She's clearly anxious and upset.
Signed, Someone whose cat is on prozac for this very problem.
