Turned 50 and my vision along with everything is changing!
What are your tips for using reading glasses? Any place you like to buy them at? Do you use the neck strap to keep them always with you?
I brought a 3 pack of them from Costco and have stashed them in places where I'll need them (work, car and purse). If I am wearing my contacts (which I do at work) I need readers or my eyes get really strained looking at the computer or reading documents.
I did just have an eye exam and my eyes are fine otherwise.

No tips other than to just wear them. I keep a pair by the computer, in the kitchen, in my purse, in the bedroom, etc. and buy them from wherever as needed. You are lucky if you just started to need them at age 50.

My suggestion is not to buy too many in the strength you are using now as it may change. Definitely look for deals on them (I also have one of the 3-packs from Costco), and keep them in places where you know you'll need them, just don't go overboard getting too many that you'll just have to replace in a year or 3 when your eyes change again and you need a higher strength. (Ask me how I know!) I don't use a strap, but I do try and buy the ones that come with a decently sturdy case.

Do not put them on and then look at yourself too closely in the mirror. You may find some fine lines and wrinkles or some stray brow hairs that you were blissfully unaware of. That's my tip!

Ditto what trollie said! Also, buy more than 3 pairs and scatter them around the house, your purses and cars! I always seem to be looking for a pair! Over the years, I have found that it is worth paying a little more to have a better quality lens. They will last longer and there is less distortion with them.

I don’t need correction for far vision, so I got some progressive glasses that had three levels of correction - zero for far away, one level of magnification for computers, and one for closer reading. That way I could wear them all the time - I had gotten very tired of looking for my reading glasses every time I wanted to look at my phone or read the back of a package.
But then I got tired of wearing glasses, so I got progressive contacts that do the same thing. I’m pretty happy with them and wear them instead of glasses most days.

I have several in each room. I have probably 9 of them. I find them cheap at Tuesday Morning. I like the ICU brand.

I’m been using readers for about 2-3 years and just in that time I’ve need stronger ones. I also started needing computer distance ones that were a lower strength than my reading ones (no correction needed for far away). So I have the computer ones at my work computer and in my laptop bag for work. Then for reading I have more scattered around the house (I can use the computer ones for reading but not reading for computer so I try to keep those separate! Lol). The locations I try to keep them are: kitchen, family room, purse, nightstand. And then I have about 2-3 more pairs in those same areas so if I walk off with them on my head when I come back there will still be another pair there. It’s been interesting getting used to needing them. I also use my college age kids eyes a lot -when clothes shopping- how much is this, etc. I’m noW that old person. Lol

I had bifocal glasses made with clear on top and reading on bottom. I grew very, very, very tired of not being able to find Where the reading ones were.

I went to progressive contacts this year too. I found that every time I took off the reader glasses I had a heck of a time focusing for a few minutes, and if I had them on & off multiple times (like at work) then I'd end up with a monster headache after awhile

Welcome to the club.
My only advice is to carry them with you everywhere. I can't bear stuff flapping around my chest (I did try the neck strap and was permanently furious with the world) and so I defy the rules and wear them on my head. I get tutted at, but show me a better solution and I'll try it.
I was 42 when I needed them for close craft work only, and 48 when I suddenly started needing them for reading, my phone and my little laptop. The next step will be for the computer at work, I'm sure. {sigh}

I love my Vera Bradley readers. I have a pair that stays with my iPad, a pair in my desk drawer, a pair in my Bible bag, etc. I also have two pairs of progressives but only wear those when I know I will be going a task for a LONG time and need to wear glasses for a while (like night driving, a class, etc.).

I only started wearing them recently (I'm 58) after owning some for two-ish years. I kept thinking I needed them, but then my vision was worse with them than without. Until one day, I really did *need* them... and now I can't see to read without them at all anymore. Weird how that works. I have a set of 12 from Joy Mangano. My MIL's sister had access to a good deal and bought them for us all! Lol. That has given me plenty to scatter around to all the spots where I need them. I mostly wear them on my head like RedSquirrelUK does. I can't deal with the neck holders.

Reading sunglasses are essential for me. I got a script from my eye doc and had a pair from Costco.

I am 52 and just started needing them. I was getting so annoyed that I could never find them when I needed that I went to the dollar store and bought a bunch of pairs to have everywhere I might need them.
I wear them on the top of my head. I am not "old" enough to wear them on a string LOL

I don't like things around my neck, so I won't try them that way although I'm guilty of taking them off and putting them on my neck. Turned 50 and can't do without now. I used to be able to get by.

I became so dependent on my readers and had them all over the place - spent a lot of time looking for them. It was when I had a pair on a chain around my neck while also wearing a pair that I decided I did not want to be that person. I flexed out money specifically to use for progressive glasses. I knew if I flexed out the money that I'd actually make an appointment and get them. I love my glasses.
