I'm looking for gift ideas for the little ones in my life. I thought that rather than them being overloaded at Christmas time, they might enjoy getting things in the mail throughout the year that would be fun and educational.
Does anyone here have experience - good or bad - with subscription boxes? Kiwi? Little Passports? Raddish? Others?
The kids I'm buying for range in age from 4 to 8, boys and girls, but if your experience is with other ages I'm sure others here would appreciate recommendations. Thanks!

DS9 got BrickLoot last year (for the full year) and the year before (for 3 months). It's a Lego subscription (though they're generic Legos they're well built). He's enjoyed it. Each month is a theme and includes several sets along with 1 or more mini figs. He wants something different this year since he still has many sets he hasn't built yet (he runs hot/cold with Lego). Definitely recommend for a Lego lover.

Raddish Box is great! The recipes are easy to follow, and most importantly they are GOOD! Each box contains 3-4 recipes that revolve around a central theme. Usually an app or side, main dish, and desert. There’s a kid friendly cooking utensil, which is used with at least one of the recipes in that box. There is a card that talks about a new culinary skill, and at least one recipe involves using that technique. And there are 4 conversation cards so that you can talk with your family at the dinner table (as opposed to just eating dinner or watching tv while you eat). It is seriously my favorite box we’ve ever done. Thinking about reactivating his subscription for another few months for Christmas.
My son got that box for 6 or 9 months. And there were maybe 3 recipes total that we didn’t like. It really is great! 😁

I got the Kiwi Crate box for my 11yo for several months this past year. He loved it at first and had a blast putting things together all by himself, but once school started up this year he lost interested and said it could be cancelled. The boxes he got were pretty cool though and he could almost always easily put things together without adult help.
I've looked into the Raddish kit and want to try it for him, but his cooking interest comes and goes (plus he can be pretty picky) but maybe this summer I'll try it.

Thanks for the recommendations. All three of those could work for our needs, so I'm checking out their websites - Raddish has a cyber Monday deal if anyone else is looking.

My DD received both the Tinker (more STEM) and the Doodle (art) crates from Kiwi. She chose to keep the Tinker. We just canceled as she has several unfinished projects, due to her own limitations. I gave 3 months of the Kiwi crate to our 8 year old niece last year. She loved it.
ETA * I did find Kiwi's website to be clunky and hard to use and that they aren't the best at articulating information. I had a month to month and got an email that if I switched to an annual sub, I'd save money. Well, I could never figure out how to get that accomplished. I didn't email them though either. They had a deal for last year which didn't say only one reduced price per person but that's all it allowed.

Amazon has a STEM subscription with three different age groups. It is $20 a month. We typically got a $40 STEM toy and all have been well liked. You get the toy, no extras like in a regular subscription. But, the value is absolutely there. We found toys we wouldn't have found otherwise. Amazon has a book club for kids too. I haven't done that one because we just order books all the time. You might want to think of doing that. One year, I gave my grandson a book for hisbirthday one year with a handmade certificate for one book a month, and then just ordered one sent to him each month.
I gave my granddaughter Little Passports for a year. She loved it.
I gave my nephew Tinker Crate for about 6 months and he loved it.
Owl Crate Jr. is a good one for readers aged 8-12. It might be on the older end though. Like I might give it to a 10 year old, not an 8 year old. Depends on the reader.

I did the Kiwi Crate science boxes for my great-nephew (6 years) this past Christmas. He's been getting a box a month and they have been a huge hit with him.

I ordered Tinker Crate for my 10 year old grandson - hoping he likes it as well as yours did! They are having a Cyber Monday sale right now. Good to know about the Amazon book club - he's a big reader!

Universal Yums was a HUGE hit with my nephew. Every month, snack food box filled with savory and sweet treats from a different country in the world. The country is always a surprise, and the box comes with a list where you can rate each snack. His mom said it helped him try new foods, and he even made youtube videos for the family of his reactions to all the snacks. Highly recommend!

I did We Craft Box with my son for six months last year. We really enjoyed it while we got it. I only ended it because I was trying to cut household expenses down.
