If you use a flat iron to straighten (or curl) hair, do you have any recommendations on one you really like? I have a 20% off Ulta coupon, and want to get a good flat iron for my kids. It's a Christmas gift, so any price range works. My daughters have coarse, slightly frizzy hair, and want the results to be smooth and shiny hair. My hair is perfectly straight, so I have no experience with straighteners. We do have to have one with an auto shut-off feature.

Paul Mitchell Smooth. I use it in my salon every day and love it!
I do however recommend staying away from the Paul Mitchell Neuro iron, I’ve seen too many of them malfunction and get way too hot and burn the hair.

Between my two DDs and I, we have had a few straighteners over the years. CHI is no longer the high quality iron it once was. I had a BaByliss that was good for a while but died sooner than it should have for the price IMO. Paul Mitchell seems to be the brand that is most consistent for us and works the best for the longest time. I truly think this is one of those items where you get what you pay for.
That said, DD1 tossed a <$50 Kristen Ess in my cart at Target on Black Friday and said she’s heard great things about it. Of the three of us, she’s the one who needs to straighten the least and will only use it to curl her waist length hair so high heat, etc isn’t quite as important to her.

I looked it up at Ulta and I just saw the neuro one, and Express Neon Smooth. The Express Neon Smooth is $125. I tried to link it, but it didn't work.

Someone recommended a Babyliss one, but it doesn't have an auto shut-off, so I am afraid to get it. I'm so paranoid about leaving something on. It looks like the Paul Mitchell is a good one to try, both posters recommended it!

Thanks so much! And I see it has an auto shut-off after an hour! Bonus!

Babyliss Titanium Pro--I love mine! I have thick, coarse, curly/frizzy hair, and I like that one pass is all I need, rather than the several my old iron needed. The plates are also a bit longer than some, so can do more hair at a time. My first one lasted about 7 yrs, I've had this one over 5 yrs. I got mine at JCP when they were on sale and there was a coupon. Pricey, but worth it to me.

I’m happy with my current CHI. I’ve had it for about four years and it still does a good job. I can straighten my entire head in about ten minutes, and my hair looks healthy. I’m not sure what I’ll switch to when the CHI dies though.
