Sarah Burris.... ”@lindseygrahamsc screeches at reporters over impeachment: Trump ‘did nothing wrong in his mind’ #ImpeachmentTrial” Oh well then it’s ok. South Carolina deserves better than this guy... I had no IDEA that's how our justice system worked! It's not about laws and morals, it's all about what you THINK you're doing!! I can see that cutting down on a lot of our lawbreaking and prison overcrowding: "But officer, I didn't THINK I was too drunk to drive... sorry about that pedestrian I hit, there." Officer: "oh, well- since you thought you were okay- in THAT case, have a nice day!" "But officer, I had a good REASON for stealing that money-- you see, I want to buy a new car, but I don't have the money." Officer: "well, sure!! That makes sense to me! Why should you have to drive a used car?? Since YOU have a good reason for stealing the money, you can take it and go." /s (just to be clear) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NOPE. If that's not how it works for any of us peons, it shouldn't be how it works for the person in charge. Just because he's the President does NOT mean he can abuse his powers with impunity.

If that is true it speaks more to that mind and how the "stable genius" is not fit to be and dangerous as POTUS.

linkNPR... “Trump Administration Threatens California Over Mandate That Insurers Cover Abortion”“Just hours before President Trump addressed thousands of anti-abortion rights activists at the annual March for Life in Washington, D.C., his administration has given its attendees reason to cheer. The Office of Civil Rights, a division of the Department of Health and Human Services, announced Friday that it is taking action against California for requiring private insurers to cover abortions. The office says the requirement, implemented in 2014, violates federal conscience protections for health care providers that refuse to perform certain services on religious or moral grounds. "Regardless of what one thinks about the legality of abortion, the American people have spoken with one voice to say that people should not be forced to participate, pay for or cover other people's abortions," office Director Roger Severino told reporters on a conference call ahead of the formal announcement. "The Weldon amendment is very clear," Severino added, referring to a federal measure that was passed by Congress more than a decade ago and repeatedly renewed as part of the department's appropriations. "If states receive federal funds from HHS and other agencies, they cannot discriminate against health plans that decline to cover or pay for abortions — period, full stop." The notice issued to California on Friday demands that the state "signal its intent to come into compliance with the law or face appropriate action." However, Severino declined to detail the exact timeline or nature of that penalty — suggesting only that the appropriated funds California receives from HHS may be in jeopardy.“

Why the world is closer than ever to DoomsdayOpinion by Ban Ki-Moon, Mary Robinson, Jerry Brown and William J. Perry Updated 10:27 AM ET, Fri January 24, 2020 Editor's Note: Ban Ki-Moon is former United Nations secretary-general. Mary Robinson served as both Irish president and United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. Jerry Brown was governor of California from 1975-83 and 2011-19 and is now executive chair of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists. William J. Perry was US secretary of defense under President Bill Clinton and is now chair of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists. Ban Ki-Moon and Mary Robinson are members of The Elders, an international nongovernmental organization of elder statesmen, peace activists and human rights advocates. The views expressed in this commentary belong to the authors. (CNN) We are in humanity's moment of greatest peril. On Thursday, the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, which takes stock of the threats posed by nuclear war and climate change each year, moved the Doomsday Clock to 100 seconds before midnight. We are now measuring how close the world is to catastrophe in seconds -- not hours, or even minutes. It is the closest to Doomsday we have ever been since the clock was created in 1947. ** Together, we have served as United Nations secretary-general, president of Ireland, governor of California, and US Secretary of Defense and we remain active today on issues of global concern. That is why we are heeding the call of the Bulletin by taking the step of urging fellow world leaders to act before matters spin further out of control. We share a common concern over the failure of the multilateral system to address the existential threats we face. From the US' withdrawal from the Paris Agreement and the Iran nuclear deal, to the deadlock at nuclear disarmament talks and division at the UN Security Council -- our mechanisms for collaboration are being undermined when we need them the most. ** Making matters worse, cyber-enabled disinformation campaigns are sowing distrust in science, institutions and nations. They feed into the fear that drives the threat of nuclear war and the denialism that impedes action on the climate crisis. A nuclear war that could end civilization -- whether it is started intentionally or accidentally -- is a real possibility. Meanwhile, climate change that could devastate the planet is undeniably underway. And for a variety of reasons (including cyber-enabled disinformation), democratic governments and other institutions that should be working to address these threats have failed to rise to the challenge. ** We now face a true emergency -- an absolutely unacceptable state of world affairs that has eliminated any margin for error. We ask world leaders to join us in 2020 as we work to pull humanity back from the brink without any further delay. The Doomsday Clock now stands at 100 seconds to midnight, in what is arguably the most dangerous situation that humanity has ever faced. Now is the time to come together -- to unite and to act.** www.cnn.com/2020/01/24/opinions/doomsday-clock-emergency-moon-robinson-brown-perry/index.html

Such class acts, dt and blackburn! President Donald Trump on Friday amplified attacks on a key impeachment witness and Purple Heart veteran, after Democrats played clips of his testimony during the Senate trial the night before.Trump shared a Fox News clip of Republican Sen. Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee sharply criticizing U.S. Army Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, the first White House official to cooperate with the House impeachment investigation. ** While Vindman continues to serve at the White House, he has largely stayed out of the public eye since his testimony. His lawyer admonished the senator in a statement to ABC News on Thursday. “That a member of the Senate – at a moment when the Senate is undertaking its most solemn responsibility – would choose to take to Twitter to spread slander about a member of the military is a testament to cowardice,” said David Pressman, Vindman’s legal counsel. “While Senator Blackburn fires off defamatory tweets, Lieutenant Colonel Vindman will continue to do what he has always done: serve our country dutifully and with honor.” ** abcnews.go.com/Politics/trump-amplifies-attacks-white-house-official-impeachment-testimony/story?id=68506302

Here is the article with the recording to hear! trump saying 'get rid of her!' ** The recording appears to contradict statements by Trump and support the narrative that has been offered by Parnas during broadcast interviews in recent days. Sources familiar with the recording said the recording was made during an intimate April 30, 2018, dinner at the Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C. Trump has said repeatedly he does not know Parnas, a Soviet-born American who has emerged as a wild card in Trump’s impeachment trial, especially in the days since Trump was impeached. "Get rid of her!" is what the voice that appears to be Trump’s is heard saying. "Get her out tomorrow. I don't care. Get her out tomorrow. Take her out. OK? Do it." ** abcnews.go.com/Politics/recording-appears-capture-trump-private-dinner-ukraine-ambassador/story?id=68506437

I had breakfast with several of my expat friends yesterday. Naturally, the conversation at some point turned to the impeachment. All but one of us, were completely defeated and almost resigned to the fact that Trump will be acquited and quite possibly re-elected again. Even my husband has started saying as much! I have watched quite a bit of the trial over the last few days. I have the TV on now, but I can't even bring myself to watch and listen to the lies and continued coverup that is about to come out of the WH lawyers' mouths. Not to mention how the GOP will lap it up.
Anyone else feeling this way?

I don’t think the senate will do the right thing. I don’t have faith in them. But I do have a bit more faith in Trump being voted out. I think more Dems will vote, some decent Repubs have turned, and more Dems will be unified in supporting the remaining nominee. But there is still some fear.

I think more Dems will vote, some decent Repubs have turned, and more Dems will be unified in supporting the remaining nominee. But there is still some fear. I don't have faith in anything right now. That any senator, or any person, who listened to the opening remarks can think anything other than "WTF?? That man needs to go!" is mind boggling. What the hell kind of world are we living in??
I was really surprised this morning when someone I am friends with on Facebook posted the tweet where he was doing all the name calling. She admitted that she voted for him, but she is embarrassed by him now. You would not believe the people who posted that they don't have a problem with him doing that. He is allowed to speak his mind. When someone pointed out that it is not very presidential, then the comments like: Well, he is NOT a politician, that's why people like him and voted for him. Or He just says what everyone else is thinking. Or people call him names all the time. And on and on. It was nauseating. If almost half of our country and more than half of our senators really and truly feel like he did nothing at all wrong, then we really and truly are doomed. Not just doomed...f*cked.

linkJust how stupid is trump? He’s stupid because he is lazy and has no curiosity. At Davos he gave this interview to CNBC. “Full interview: President Trump discusses trade, impeachment, Boeing and Elon Musk with CNBC in Davos”From the transcript. “JOE KERNEN: --and I needed to ask it. And I needed to--ask it. That’s why I did. But I really want to talk about-- what we’re seeing over here. We came--to Davos expecting to hear about this ESG, Environmental, Social and Governmental issues. We expected to hear about stakeholders versus shareholders. PRESIDENT TRUMP: Right. JOE KERNEN: We expected to hear about climate change. In four hours yesterday, with the CEO of Bank of America, and Schwartzman with Blackstone, all we talked about, and all they wanted to talk about, was the strength of the U.S. economy. It’s the envy of the world. And I think if you have a strong economy, all these ancillary issues become easier to deal with. And I think even the Europeans, even the plutocrats of Davos, are now acknowledging that. PRESIDENT TRUMP: Well, I appreciate that very much. We do. We have an incredible economy. The consumer has never been so rich. They-- you know, they’re-- between the tax cuts and the regulation cuts-- people forget about regulation. I think it might have been more important than the tax cuts. But we have-- a consumer in the United States that has never done so well. And I think we’re really poised to have I think we have tremendous potential. You know, we’re at a point where we’ve done so well, I think we’re going do much better. We have tremendous potential.” This was not the part I had originally planned on highlighting but the bolded part caught my attention. Question. Have you ever been this rich? Well that depends on what regulations you cut. If it means if we breath toxic air or drink polluted water then yes, they are important but not the way the idiot thinks.

More from that CNBC interview..
”JOE KERNEN: Tesla’s now worth more than GM and Ford. Do you have comments on Elon Musk?
PRESIDENT TRUMP: Well-- you have to give him credit. I spoke to him very recently, and he’s also doing the rockets. He likes rockets. And-- he does good at rockets too, by the way. I never saw where the engines come down with no wings, no anything, and they’re landing. I said I’ve never seen that before. And I was worried about him, because he’s one of our great geniuses, and we have to protect our genius. You know, we have to protect Thomas Edison and we have to protect all of these people that-- came up with originally the light bulb and-- the wheel and all of these things. And he’s one of our very smart people and we want to-- we want to cherish those people. That’s very important. But he’s done a very good job. Shocking how well-- you know, how it’s come so fast. I mean you go back a year and they were talking about the end of the company. And now all of a sudden they’re talking about these great things. He’s going to be building a very big plant in the United States. He has to, because we help him, so he has to help us.”
It would appear the stable genius never watch shows about spaceships when he was a kid.
As to this “You know, we have to protect Thomas Edison and we have to protect all of these people that-- came up with originally the light bulb and-- the wheel and all of these things. And he’s one of our very smart people and we want to-- we want to cherish those people.”
If he believes this then why has he declared war on innovation?

And here is how he justifies cutting Medicare.
CNBC Interview.
”JOE KERNEN: Do I dare-- one last question.
PRESIDENT TRUMP: Go ahead.
JOE KERNEN: Entitlements ever be on your plate?
PRESIDENT TRUMP: At some point they will be. We have tremendous growth. We’re going to have tremendous growth. This next year I-- it’ll be toward the end of the year. The growth is going to be incredible. And at the right time, we will take a look at that. You know, that’s actually the easiest of all things, if you look, cause it’s such a--
JOE KERNEN: If you’re willing--
PRESIDENT TRUMP: --big percentage.
JOE KERNEN: --to do some of the things that you said you wouldn’t do in the past, though, in terms of Medicare--
PRESIDENT TRUMP: Well, we’re going-- we’re going look. We also have-- assets that we’ve never had. I mean we’ve never had growth like this. We never had a consumer that was taking in, through-- different means, over $10,000 a family. We never had the kind of-- the kind of things that we have. Look, our country is the hottest in the world. We have the hottest economy in the world. We have the best unemployment numbers we’ve ever had. African American, Asian American. Hispanics are doing so incredibly. Best they’ve ever done. Black. Best they’ve ever done. African American. The numbers are incredible. The poverty numbers. The unemployment and the employment. There’s-- there is a difference, actually. But the unemployment and employment numbers for African Americans are the best we’ve ever had. You know, we just-- came up with a chart, and it was a very important to number to me. African American youth has the highest, by far, unemployment. The best unemployment numbers that they’ve ever had. And the best employment numbers. Right now we have almost 160 million people working in the United States, and we’ve never even been close to that, Joe.”
So families did you “take in over $10,000”?
There are also more people living in this country so the comparison should be the % of eligible workers not a meaningless number.

Oops.............. NOt one of my favorite people for sure, but...... Louise Linton, the wife of U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, deleted an image she posted on Instagram Saturday showing support for teenage climate activist Greta Thunburg.
Linton, who is an actress and TV producer, posted the image of Thunberg, 17, speaking at Davos, Switzerland, calling for an end to the fossil fuel industry. “I stand with Greta on this issue,” she wrote. “(I don't have a degree in economics either) We need to drastically reduce our use of fossil fuels. Keep up the fight @gretathunberg."Linton’s post was screenshotted by multiple journalists before it was deleted without explanation, though it appears to be a response to a previous statement her husband has made about Thunburg. ** More at link: thehill.com/blogs/in-the-know/in-the-know/479941-lousie-linton-wife-of-mnuchin-deletes-instagram-post-in-support
