I have some clothes that are pilling (sweaters and a knit coat). I remember using a sweater shaver when I was a kid but haven't used one since. Amazon sells them. Does anyone use these anymore, or is there a better option now? Thanks!

try a sweater stone ($8?) (on thicker chunkier knits) or sweater comb ($4) (on finer knits, merino or cashmere). Both are available at Joanne's in the notions area. You can use a coupon. I think Bed bath beyond has the stones.

Yes I just bought a new one in A huge Asian market in Vancouver in October and now I can’t find it.

I use this fabric comb and really like it. I don’t know why they call it travel size, it is large enough to fit well in my hand and cover a decent swatch of fabric without being so large as to feel like you weren’t in control of the entire thing. To me it is much easier, faster, and effective than any of the clothes shavers I’ve owned.

Yes, I use one all the time. Keeps my sweaters looking new. Gross, pilly sweaters are a major pet peeve.

Yup, all the time. Mine is Conair brand but very similar to the other one linked above.
I've also been known to take an actual face razor to a sweater from time to time, but the battery powered one is much easier.

I’ve used the stone thing but it can be messy. I had this little handheld metal screen looking thing you would rub across the pills and it would pull them off and it worked great. I misplaced it when we moved and haven’t turned it up yet.

Awesome timing on this thread! I was just putting away laundry and one of my beloved sweaters is looking really pilly and I remembered my mum had a shaver years ago. I didn’t know they still existed.

I used to but a few times I ended up making small holes in the garment so I quit using it. I have a fabric comb that I switched to, but misplaced so now I just pluck them by hand.

I have lived my whole life not thinking I needed one. But I bought a cheap one on amazon last year and really like it. Definitely glad I have seen the light.

Do these work OK on cheap acrylic type sweaters? Or do they need to be of decent make?

But I can attest to it working well on a lot of other different fabrics than quality wool (or other) sweaters.
