She should press the assault charges even if they ultimately don't go anywhere just to send a message that his behavior is not okay under any circumstances.

It’s not hard to keep your hands to yourself. They’re already pretty close to your body when you’re running. You don’t even have to work hard to keep them tucked in. It is hard to cross the race path, wind your arm up, and then full on smack someone on the ass. This EXACTLY!!! For those saying it is nothing. What if he had smacked her across the face or other area of her body? It shouldn't matter where he hit her. HE HIT HER!!!! It is plain and simple one is to keep their hands to themselves!

Completely disgusting! How could he even think that was ok? On camera, too. What an idiot! Gotcha Imagine what he does in private if he's OK doing this ON LIVE TV. Sicko. I wouldn't trust my "youth" around this "youth minister" for millions. What are they learning but disgusting entitled behavior.

Wow, her reaction says it all. I'm impressed with how she held onto her composure and kept reporting. According to his lawyer he "didn't act with any criminal intentions". So what were his intentions? Just plain old noncriminal disrespect? Just having good old boy fun at the expense of a woman? Clearly it was a conscious choice to get in position, wind up and smack her. I hope she does press charges because the message is just not getting through to these neanderthals that they can not treat women like this. Defend yourself in court. I mean apparently this is how our country works now. Donald Trump didn't specifically say 'quid pro quo' so there was no quid pro quo... He didn't admit to a crime so there's no crime, right? Basically the same as this POS, he didn't proclaim he was about to assault someone, so there was no assault. It is truly terrifying, the precedents being set lately.

His justification does not match the visual. He is facing the consequences of a disgusting action and now wants to back peddle.

No accident. He was not raising his hand to wave. He deliberately reached down and over to hit her butt! Obvious in the video! Alex PLEASE file charges! He should not be working with or be near YOUTH! Sets a very bad example/visual!

He knew exactly what he was doing. It was all over his face. Didn’t know where he touched her, come on now. Back pedaling like it’s an Olympic event.
Touching someone without consent isn’t a joke anyway. Doesn’t matter her back or her bum or her left bicep.

Yes, I often lower my shoulder right before I bring that hand up to wave. And bite my lip to because I’m really giving the wave my all.

What would have been honest and on the path to bettering himself?
He needs to recognize HIS bad behavior. He needs to make amends. HE NEEDS TO WORK to CHANGE whatever PART OF HIM THINKS THAT WAS OK. HE NEEDS TO WORK to CHANGE whatever PART OF HIM THINKS ITS OK TO JUSTIFY IT!

". . . there was a misjudge in character and decision making . . ." ". . . if I did see her facial reaction I would have been embarrassed, I would have been felt ashamed and I would have stopped, turned around and went back and apologized to her . . ." Sounds like someone stumbled through his carefully crafted and rehearsed explanation. Poor guy just wanted to wave at the camera and accidentally "touched" the reporter.

If he was raising his hand to wave, how was it a misjudgment? Or a bad decision?
His story makes no sense; I'm so happy he's being charged and let this be a lesson to anyone, male or female, who thinks it's okay to touch anyone without their permission.

I wonder how he would feel if he was standing up before a church congregation, giving a talk - doing his job, and a larger male walked up behind him onstage, wound up, and reached around and grabbed his balls and then walked off. How would he feel? And would he think his assaulter just made a misjudgment?

The days of helping themselves to women's bodies are OVER. I am glad I am alive to see this happening. I wish all the millions of women through history who never thought this day would come, could know.

I've been fuming about this story for days. Very pleased she is not just "taking" it. The screen grabs where you can see him purse his lips for the big wind-up say everything. He's a liar and pig who got caught.

His excuse was bullshit. I hope he gets jail time. And then has to register as a sex offender when he gets out. That will stop his youth ministry, boy scouts etc in its tracks.

Agreed, I would be horrified if someone working with my teen daughters did something like this. As a mom I would want him to have to register. I would want this to impact his work with young people and would never trust him with my kids of either gender.

I think his volunteering days in the church youth group are over. I'm not sure what he thought was going to happen when it was captured on tv. The young woman did meet with police on Monday. I hope she presses charges. I think I'll send a note of support so she and the station know this woman supports her. I hope other people show support by taking the time to mail the station. If they are inundated with snail mail, perhaps she'll feel confident in pursuing her charge. He's a creep and I suspect she'll have ladies coming out of the woodwork to tell their story if she decides to sue in civil court. I think you might be surprised. I'll bet his church stands by him.

I just want to say, I had a client back in the day who had a fairly serious alcohol problem and did something similar to someone in a bar. He ended up charged with an offense that carried ten years and the prosecutor took it very seriously. My client, however, was not the youth-pastor-boy-scout-leader type; I find it so gross that this guy is out here acting like because he has a position in a church he can’t have meant to violate a woman, because I bet he would happily throw the stone at my former client, who at least had the explanation for his behavior that he was completely tanked at the time (not an excuse obviously).

His non apology is infuriating. Fuck off. It was not a mistake. His actions may have been spontaneous, but they were definitely intentional.

This is a great twitter thread from a body language expert.
slight tangent to the thread topic, but thanks for posting this! he has some really interesting analyses posted under the hashtag #BodyLanguageExpert. And I am glad she's pursuing charges against the guy. He deserves to have the book thrown at him (and not the Good Book, either).
