Sailing around the world, taking photos and writing a book about my journey.
I've been dreaming about sailing around the world since I read the book "The Dove" by Robin Lee Graham when I was 17. I had no experience with sailing until my father built his first sailboat out of wood (it was 14 feet long) in his backyard in 1990 and we launched it in the Sound (like a Bay) in North Carolina while on vacation. Then we launched it into the ocean. I was instantly hooked on sailing-it became a huge love of mine. So much so that after my divorce in 1993 I moved to Annapolis, MD to start over and because it was known as the World Capitol of Sailing. My parents followed me a year later. My father bought a bigger boat and has been through two more since then-the latest is a wonderful boat that we've had many adventures on. I have a small daysailer that is a one person's boat.
I still have my dream and it hasn't changed.

I work from home, part time, from bed in my jammies. I do travel to observe classrooms now and then and it is a really great job. I can take off when I need to and travel when I want to. I worked for 30 years as a teacher and never took time off unless a kid was sick or I had to go to a funeral. I feel like I put in my time and am very happy to work because I want to do something not because I have to do something.

I retired at age 49, 9 years ago. My favorite ‘jobs’ have been volunteer positions. Most notably in animal welfare and also working face to face with those in my community who are less fortunate.
I spent a year volunteering in the after school program in a local elementary school (I had also done so years ago when my son was young). I loved connecting with the kids but felt that my exuberance was more than that particular organization was looking for. I’d love to be a ‘big sister’ to a child, but I’m far too old. Now that I’ve typed that out, I should look into whether there are organizations for surrogate grandparents instead!

I am a school speech therapist. Right now I work 3 days a week, because it is just too stressful. I love the kids, but the caseload numbers and paperwork are insane. And I have so little time to actual work with the kids and help them. I am 48 and trying to get to age 55 with this job. Then I was thinking maybe I would work as kindergarten or 1st grade paraprofessional. I could work with the kids every day and with my skillset, I could probably really make a difference. WAAYYYY less money, but I wouldn't have to take any stress home with me!

Being a CASA is my retirement job. I love the mix of working with children and professionals. My ideal retirement job would be to organize and lead small travel groups. I love planning vacations and exploring new cities and countries.

My niece suggested this:
She saw this tweet: If you pay me $50 I'll show up to your funeral but stand really far away, holding a black umbrella regardless of the weather so that people will think you died with a dark and interesting secret.
============================
I seriously would want to do this. HAHAHHAHAHAH

Retirement means no jobs. So, messing around the house, reading, watching tv, scrapbooking...no working.

I want to be the person in the grocery store filling the curbside pickup orders. My friends think I'm weird because I actually enjoy grocery shopping (and grocery stores in general). You get to be around other people, but not have to really talk to them. Also another way to put that BS in Home Economics to use!

I would be a massage therapist. . I am a massage therapist, it was my first career but since I started when I was 21, it would never be a career I could do long enough to retire from. I work in audiology now, and massage very part time. I hope when I retire from audiology, I can still massage part-time in my retirement. I love both my jobs but massage is where my heart is. Retirement is still a while away so who knows what the future will bring.

DEX How are you doing with your blood sugar? Thanks for asking. After exhaustive tests and appointments my Dr. said she doesn’t know why my BS got so low. She said the only not other time she saw it was with a pancreatic tumor. YIKES! No tumor. I just have to continue to monitor my BS and come back if I have further problems.

We really wanted our kid to be able to have the inter generational relationships that other kids have with their bio grandparents. On a somewhat related note, our school enlists the help of grandparents and retired people in the community to teach the older kids how to play cribbage as part of their math program. I think they come in a couple times a month to play with the 4th and 5th graders for a few hours and the kids love it.

Ticket turnstiles at Disneyland! *My only issue is, even now, I don't want to work nights and weekend. Working at Disneyland is my retirement dream job too! I want to work in the ticket booth though... Maybe one day, although I don't even live in OC anymore.

I need to get a non-retirement job, but I’m waiting until DD can be home alone after school. The problem with most jobs is that they’re far too peopley for me most days. If I could work 2-3 days a week between about 10-2, that would be awesome. Gosh, you nailed it with "too peopley"!!! That's the worst part of my job. I'd love to work in a cave (well, one with natural light at least but you know what I mean).

Tomorrow in the classroom to watch someone else. Monday I'm in the classroom as well. After that, I'll work from home 2 days a week during the Christmas holidays.

Volunteer position - volunteer for Red Cross or similar organization. Offer relief services around the world wherever and whenever they're needed (have passport, will travel)!
Paid position - work as an usher at major concerts and events here in Las Vegas. This way I'd be able to enjoy the shows without having to pay the insane ticket prices!

I retired for the first and so far only time in July. I have been taking care of my infant granddaughter. It is not easy at age 62 even if I am able to be home all day, but in some ways it is a dream job because I cherish this time with her and helping out my kids with daycare. I never had any family support at all so I'm doing what I wish I had.
That said, I want to do something with historic garb, embroidery, spinning, dying, either making stuff, teaching it or just wearing it myself. I kind of do it now by volunteering a few hours a month, but I absolutely do not have the skill nor the ability to acquire it at this point in my life. There are some incredible artisans especially in Europe who turn out the most amazing historic clothing reproductions. Oh to have that skill level!
I always thought I'd like to be a paralegal, but that no longer interests me at all. It is something I wish I had already done and just had the knowledge.
I'd love to speak another language well enough to teach English to non English speaking students.
I love to write reviews on Yelp and someone asked me about doing reviews for money. The thing is I had weight loss surgery so I can't eat at restaurants like I used to. But I do enjoy that type of thing.
Lastly, I've always wanted to do a column or articles for the newspaper. Newspapers are hanging by a thread at this point, but I still enjoy getting the paper and reading it. I never got on the blogging bandwagon but I think at this point I could have had a good blog.
Anyone remember Nora Griffin (Just Make Stuff)? She has a dream job as a college professor in Sociology various issues and she is a very creative person who has a great personal style in her home and I always enjoyed her blog. Now I see she is on Instagram. I kind of would like to be like her.

I never really 'retired' as such - I was only 48 when I left the work force in 2001. DH was medically retired so I joined him at home. There was never any intention to have another job and we have travelled Australia, been overseas, weekend trips locally and just enjoyed life.
our first grandson arrived in 2007, another in 2009 and a granddaughter in 2014. We have a lot of contact with them attending school/kindy functions, movie days, park trips what ever is on the agenda.
I enjoy to scrapbook, quilt, embrioder, read, garden - the list goes on.
I can honestly say that I have missed working but there have been times I miss some of the people I worked with. I have certainly never got out of bed and said 'I wish I was going to work today' I enjoy my life without that!
There is always something to do without being employed IMHO.

Ex & I used to joke that we’d retire in Florida and get jobs as pin traders at Disney. Seems to me like the best job ever to have the hard to find pins to trade with children. I do not think I could survive the Florida heat though. But let’s see what happens after menopause. Right now I’m hot all the time 24:7. Which sucks. I had my AC on in my car today because I was too hot. It was 37 out but my car was too hot. And now since the divorce I doubt I’ll be retiring at all.
I guess it would be nice to be paid to craft but I doubt that would happen, not to mention I’m sure it will get more difficult as I get older. I already have difficulty with knotting with beads so I can’t do that style of jewelry making anymore. After watching my parents decline I’m very afraid of what I’ll be capable or incapable of doing later in life.
If I have the same difficulties as my parents, I guess if I could get paid to watch TV that’d be awesome.

I love this thread. I left the workforce when we moved overseas. I was a SpEd teacher for the visually impaired for over 20 years, and while I loved almost every aspect of it, the aspects I didn't like seemed to eclipse the enjoyable parts little by little every year until I was just done. I have been struggling with what to do with my future. Right now, I am doing volunteer work with the USO in Stuttgart and I really like it, but not sure how I will parlay that into a new career when we get back stateside. I do know I need to find something or I will make myself crazy.

I have 5.5 years to go. I do not plan on working once I retire, I want to travel for a while. I love that we have email and Facetime and ways to keep in touch with family. My DH and I can travel and still keep in touch with family. But if I were to work a retirement job it would be teaching scrapbook classes. Or working at the nursery with plants. Something I enjoy and would enjoy sharing my knowledge of.

My hubs was an aviation mechanic, working on Blackhawks. We retired to a tiny Florida town where he's thinking of going to work at the oyster facility 3 blocks from our house as a shucker.
