Love it or List it is another one that grates on my nerves. I record and watch the home tours and the owner's renovated home. Sometimes I put it on mute as well.

Turns out the House Hunters is all set up...apparently, they won't even film if the couple hasn't bought a place or is in escrow. Often the houses they look at aren't even for sale, but I still watch it. Yes, the daughter of a friend of mine was on House Hunters International supposedly looking for a rental property to live in. My friend told me they had already been living in the property for over a year. We watch it because we're amazed at how much house you can buy elsewhere. Ha! We watch because we can't believe how LITTLE house you can get elsewhere. We are very spoiled in Indiana.

I do like some of the home reno shows only because I like seeing how the houses get transformed and to see what kinds of solutions they come up with to turn odd areas into usable spaces. Some of the hosts are annoying, but I record the shows so I can fast forward through most of the chatter. I really like Property Brothers because they show the prospective designs and then how they implemented those designs with real life stuff, and they are both obviously very good at what they do.
What drives me nuts about LIOLI is how the designer and the realtor almost never get the same money to work with, and that's not very fair right from the outset. The homeowners will give the designer $75K to fix their junk, but will give the realtor $100K more than the value of their current house to find them a better one. Then the homeowners get ticked off because something unexpected pops up and she can't do everything they wanted because they won't give her more money to make up the difference. Inevitably the realtor will find them a "perfect" house that is over their allotted budget that the homeowners absolutely love. I sit here thinking, "If you would have given the designer enough money to even up the score from the beginning, she probably could have done *everything* you wanted done in YOUR house!" It almost never fails, what the designer ends up doing increases the value of their home MORE than what they actually spent.
The one I can't stand is Rehab Addict. Uggh, Nicole Curtis' voice is like nails on a chalkboard to my ears. It drives DH nuts how she "fixes" everything with a can of spray paint, LOL.
