It's been years since we had a waffle maker in the kitchen and would like to get another one. In fact my darling Mom was trying to find us one for Christmas but was having a tough time finding an American-style (*not Belgian*) one that looked like a good buy.
So glad that my DH and I are on the same page about waffles - they need LOTS of little holes for butter and syrup and they need to have a good crunch on the outside. Thus our wish for one that's just plain ol' waffles rather than the big Belgian style.
Anyone have a good one they can recommend?

I think the waffle is more about the mix than the maker. I make a lot of waffles and love my Cuisinart double sided waffle maker. I'm sure the Cuisinart square waffle maker works well if it is the square shape you're after. Seems to have good reviews.

What is the difference between an American waffle and a Belgian waffle? Is it the thickness?
I recently bought a Dash mini waffle maker but haven't used it yet. My intention was to make low carb waffles and I see lots of good recipes and results online. They don't look too thick. It was about $10.

Do they even make non Belgium style ones anymore? I have my small holed one from my wedding 21 years ago, it's Canadian so maybe they're North American 😉 Someone was looking for one a few years ago and we couldn't find a small one here.

Another mini Dash one here. It's so pretty in aqua! I've yet to make anything yet. I got it to make chaffles. Those will start in about 2 days. Hoping my system will tolerate the cheese.

I kid, but I truly love my Dash mini and my low carb chaffles!

I have had that one for several years and it is awesome. Works really well with my GF baking mix. I also use it to cook fresh hashbrowns.

That's what I was beginning to wonder too! And there seems to be so few of them now that I thought I'd ask for recommendations instead of just picking one out of the blue, LOL!

Thanks for the "pea" input - I trust that so much more than random Amazon reviews (although this one did get a 69% positive!)

We have a panini press that has waffle plates as well. Cuisinart, I think?

I do, it is Called my DH!!!! LOL!!! Don't even know what kind of waffle maker he had, as he didn't want the one I bought him...he replaced it I do know he makes them from scratch..ie: yeast batter...rises overnight...SO VERY delicious. He wanted to make them for this am, however I really didn't want the calories...

We have 3! The first one we bought is about 15 years old. It's a stainless steel Mickey Mouse waffle maker that I think I bought at William Sonoma. The second one we bought is a Darth Vader waffle maker. I can't remember where I bought it. It's 5 years old. Then last year my son bought us a stainless steel Death Star waffle maker. All 3 work great and we use one or 2 of them a couple times a month.

This is the one I have too. It is so hard to find one that isn't "Belgian" and while I like Belgian waffles, I prefer to have a regular old fashioned non-Belgian waffle when I make them (the holes are not as deep). I recommend this Cuisinart Waffle Maker

We have a wedding gift from 1966 that is a GE electric waffle maker and a great recipe from the Purity Cookbook. Delicious!

What is the difference between an American waffle and a Belgian waffle? Is it the thickness? The Belgian waffles are thicker and have deeper/larger squares. Also, Belgian waffles contain yeast, which is why they’re so puffy. I like both, and I have heard of waffle makers for after Thanksgiving stuffing waffles, too. I need to get a waffle maker!

Cuisinart Waffle Maker - this is the one you want! I got mine at a yard sale but would happily pay full price. I also have an older Belgian waffle maker and a Dash mini. The Cuisinart wins hands down. Usually now I run the Cuisinart along side one of the others and it cranks out waffles SO MUCH FASTER than the Belgian or the Dash. I might consider a second Cuisinart at some point and then I will get rid of the Belgian. The only down side is that the waffles from the Cuisinart won't fit in the toaster. (we like to freeze extras for the kids to heat up, but they just microwave them instead)

I have a traditional waffle maker I got as a gift for my wedding shower, 33 years ago. I usually only make Mickey Mouse or Stormtrooper waffles now, and would offer to send you my still pristine now vintage waffle maker... but I watch This Is Us, so I'm going to have to pass. Adding a little malt powder to your batter with help give you the texture you are looking for.
