I just came across this story of community coming together for a grieving child:
My faith in mankind was restored, and like the Grinch my heart grew three sizes today.
As most of you may know my sister Barbara Saxton (Stephens mom) passed away suddenly this past June from liver failure. My family and I all lost a huge part of our hearts, the one effected the most is her 10 year old son Stephen.
With the holidays coming these are the hardest because they’re all the first without her being with us. I’ve struggled with trying to get into the Christmas spirit but it’s been so hard, but just because it’s hard for me doesn’t mean it has to be for Stephen. I tried to keep this as “normal” as possible such as decorating, baking, listening to Christmas music and seeing the lights but nothing can compare to what someone special people did for this little boy.
As always I let Stephen write a letter to Santa. In his letter he said that what he really wanted was for his mommy to get her angel wings. 😭 There were other things on his list but number one was to have his mommy back 😭😭. Of all the things on his list the things I want to give him the most, I cannot. As always we put his letter to Santa in the mailbox. Our mailman Steve US Postal Service is great. He gets letters from kids and brings them little gifts. This year he was so touched by Stephens letter that he did some Christmas magic with the help of the officers at the Upper Southampton Township Police Department and Santa from the Neshaminy mall.
Steve knocked at our door this morning to deliver a special package. This package it had a personal letter to Stephen from Santa but Steve also brought a special guest..... Santa Claus himself, on one of the busiest days of the year as it’s Christmas Eve. Santa had to personally give Stephen the absolute best gift that none of us could give. He gave Stephen some of his mommy’s feathers from her wings (insert a million tears here.)
There is nothing in this world that that we needed more then for a little boy to know how much he is loved, how much his mommy is loved and that he has his very own angel. No other gift you could possibly give will amount to this one.
Thanks Steve for being absolutely amazing to make this all happen.
Thanks to the Upper Southampton PD for hiding Santa’s sleigh and escorting him to our house safely.
Thanks to the Santa from the Neshaminy mall (someone please tag him) for making Stephens Christmas the best Christmas of a lifetime.
I have not stopped crying and am so grateful for every single one of you.
Not all hero’s wear capes.
On behalf of my parents Barbara A Saxton and Stephen Saxton, Stephens father Brian Stokes, my husband Tommy Martin and myself we thank you all.
*excuse the sniffles in the video I am sick and crying*
Please share our story and get all of these men recognized for being Santa’s elves and bringing Christmas to the Saxton/Martin family.
Edit- I added more photos and cannot thank all of you for sharing our post. Hopefully all these men get the recognition they deserve especially Steve Kerrigan our USPS Carrier. Merry Christmas and happy new year to you all. Please keep sharing!
