"Is that fireworks or gunfire?"
Unfortunately, the the fireworks started around 8:30 and the neighbors bought the really BIG ones, no little cheap firecrackers. Guess they ran out because at midnight there was very few boom booms and many, many more pow pows.
After 10 years as a military wife and another 5 as a LEO wife, I am pretty good at telling the difference. I know the sound of an automatic weapon as well as that of a 9mm.
Hope they run out of ammo soon.

So weird. I’m on the West Coast of Canada and can say without a doubt that it’s fireworks.

Was just saying to Dh that we weren’t awakened at midnight by fireworks this year (yeah, we’re old ). The neighbors who usually set them off must have been elsewhere. We don’t hear gunshots after dark, though we do hear some during deer season, and neighbors across the road occasionally do some target practice. We are in a rural area, so thankfully it’s nothing to worry about. I’d be freaking out if I thought someone was shooting after dark and close enough for us to hear.
