You know what? I am not boring, I am not a weirdo introvert (well sort of am but still), I am not an old cat lady...just because I choose to stay home on NYE. I am getting a little cranky because every year I go through this. I have friends who TRY to make me feel like I am the odd duck because I prefer to spend the evening at home. I have no less than FOUR text this morning with one of those memes with the party crowd on top and and the cat lady (who I might add is all dour and wrinkly and ugly) laying in bed alone with her cat on the bottom with some kind of pithy saying that says something like "everyone else" and "me". If I wanted to go out, I would. I just don't want to. Can't I just hang out alone and be okay with that with out people making fun of me?

I know what this feels like at times. I'm in a period of my life when I'm just fighting for my mental health. And I sometimes have a hard time getting through my work week. So by the time I get to the weekend, I'm just exhausted. And I need to recharge.
But I am a member of a family who are heavy into drinking and partying and my mom and sister don't have the kind of mental health issues I do. So there is a lot of pressure to go out and get together. And do, do, do. And then there is the drinking. And I don't like to drink a lot because I feel it interferes with my medicine.
I've been sick and I went to my sister's last night. I had a pretty decent day most of yesterday but by 10:30 I was ready for bed. And I got the peer pressure and I stayed out. And I didn't get home until 1:00. And then I slept terrible and today now I feel worse with my cold than I did yesterday.
So I hear you. I'm kind of pissy about it today too. But I'm mostly pissy with myself because I just didn't have the wherewithal to be the "dud" on NYE.

Yeah, not a fan of NYE, I'm an early to bed, early to rise person so staying up until midnight is ugh.

Yea, nice friends?!! There is absolutely nothing wrong with staying home. I think most people do that these days. Don't really go out and party, unless they live somewhere with an uber, or DD. We usually stay home and do seafood and games with our girls, but this yr, with the holiday in the middle of the wk, one dd had to be away. So we did go out to dinner with our other dd and bf, which was different and nice. But that's pretty rare for us to go out. A lof of the restaurants we drove by were NOT crowded, and in fact some of the just basic bars were closed. We think it has something to do with their insurance on NYE.

What do you care what other people think? Text them back with an everybody else pic of hungover tired people. TOTALLY this! People can be so stupid. When I find myself surrounded by people like that I find myself stepping back, and back, and back little by little until those people are out of my life. I don’t have time for people who can’t respect me and my wishes. And I will completely validate you too. We went to dinner last night with our friend that we usually meet up with once a week, and were home by 7:30. We don’t do NYE because we don’t want to be out on the bad roads in the winter with all the drunks. There’s nothing at all wrong with staying home away from all the crazy!

I’m sorry, those do not sound like nice friends I stay home every year and I would be annoyed and hurt if my friends sent texts like those to me! I do have friends that post those memes on Facebook about themselves and several of us like, laugh or agree with them. But none of them are texted to people, that is not very nice at all

I prefer to stay home too, which I (mostly) did. My XH had made nice dinner reservations for him and the kids, but he had stomach flu so he sent me the tix (prepaid, nonrefundabe). Kids and I had a nice time, and we were done by 7:30! I was happy to go home and get in my PJs.

I stayed home too. Zero interest going out with the party/drunk scene.
Just know you’re not alone!

Literally none of my friends go out on NYE! Same here! It could be that we are all in our 60's, but we haven't gone out for NYE in well over 10 years. A friend and I considered getting together this year but decided against it. The drunk driving issue is pretty bad here so it's just best to stay off the roads.

I have never liked going out on New Year’s Eve. I can’t stand being around drunks that think they are so entertaining. And I don’t like being on the road with them either. I would much rather stay home and have a few friends over, which I have done many times. It makes for a much more peaceful start to my new year. Last night I was home by myself and was perfectly happy. You do you and don’t give any weight to what other people want to say. Especially derogatory things from people who are supposed to be your friend.

Does it depend on what kind of mood you are in when you receive the texts/post? Could it be they are just being funny and joking around and you are not in the middle for that so you are hurt and not in the mood for their fun and games?
Not projecting on you I just know as I have seen those memes I have been laughing. I also know given certain circumstances I also might find them stupid...I say this as a person who went to dinner with her friends at 5:30 and was in bed by 9:15 as I was on call and worried I would get called out in the wee hours (I didn’t)

What I do and how I live my life, is nobody else's business. I live my life, my way. Making myself happy comes first. If someone doesn't like how I live my life, they are free to excuse themselves from my life. Good riddance!
I stay home on New Years Eve as well.
Don't let toxic people guilt trip you or make you feel bad. You do what's best for you. A good friend will understand.

Another one who stayed home and safe last night! Can't remember the last time I was out NYE Too many drunks out there.
See you were not home alone at all! Are you sure they are your friends?

Tell them you were hanging out with your real friends (I.e. us) and that we were partying all over the world. On our couches. In our jammies.

I was home last night. I bet I can count on one hand the number of times I've gone out on NYE, and I was a party girl in my 20s.

Even when I was young and could party on NYE I never did. I've always stayed home. Dh and I used to have a tradition of going for an early dinner and then going to an early movie. Just because you can doesn't mean you want to. Do your thing and when people comment remember the old saying, "MYOB".

I stayed in under a heated throw and binge-watched ‘unbelievable’ On Netflix with a bubble bath in the middle. Absolutely loved it!

I validate you to do what YOU want to do, not what they want you to do. I might have given them a wake up call bright and early this morning. My parent's dog woke me at 4:30 AM this morning barking at my door which woke my cat up and she felt it was time for breakfast. Us cat ladies can't lay abed hung over. We have a god/goddess to take care of.
