I am considering buying a smaller die cutter and wondered if there are any differences between the sizzix sidekick and the evolution. I have found both for around $27 so I wondered if one cuts better than the other? Are replacement plates easy to find? Opinions please. I already have a big shot, just looking for something to keep handy on my desk for little pieces.

I have the mini evolution. I love it, I don't have the sidekick so I can't compare the cutting. The evolution cutting area is 3×5 , the sidekick is 2 1/2 × 4 7/8. For the evolution its not easy to find replacement plates and they are $12 on amazon. The sidekick plates much cheaper on amazon and they sell them at HL too. I still like that the evolution can cut bigger dies, sometimes that 1/2 inch can make all the difference. 😊 I hope this helps pas2

I have an old side kick. I like it, it works fine. The plates are easy to replace and regular plates are only around $3. I paid $12 for the 12” long plates, those also work fine.
BUT if it were to break now I’m probably going to look elsewhere to replace it simply because I’m not currently supporting sizzix. Time will tell wether I become a sizzix customer again. But not right now.

I bought the Evolution Mini after reading a post from someone who found then at Tuesday Morning (the Peas are such enablers). I love mine but yes, the plates are hard to find. Before I found some on Amazon I bought some Sidekick plates just in case.

Thanks everyone, I think I will go with the Sidekick. I am hard on plates so being able to get cheap replacements is more important than the 1/2” extra cutting space to me. i really wanted the smaller machine to make cutting tiny items easier.
