Yes we got a good amount of rain last week - just in time for smalltowngirlie 's trip to Melbourne! I mean, we needed the rain badly, but it came too late for the fires and too early for her trip. In fact, I heard that it was the wettest couple of days in 24 years! So we went from fires to flash flooding, then a massive dust storm which turned pretty much every pool in Melbourne brown.... and now the temperature is soaring again - 40 yesterday and 43 today. Thanks for asking after us. Oh good grief - you're really having more than your fair share of extreme weather aren't you!! I hope things settled down soon!

Whilst things have definitely improved a lot, we're still very early in the season, so I don't feel like I can breathe a sigh of relief yet. But as long as the rest of the fires come one or two at a time and not the massive inferno stretching for miles again, I know we can tackle it.
My heart breaks for those going home and trying to pick up the pieces of their lives with what's left. I hope the aid that's been so generously donated it distributed quickly and to everyone who needs it.

I was pleased to see this BBC report this morning saying that heavy rain has been helping to put out fires. BBC

Yes most fires now out. There has been a massive amount of rain on the east coast over the last few days and more to come. Lots in drought affected and fire affected areas too. Not making it easy on people living in temp accommodated caravans etc as the water us just running off.
The old saying “it never rains...” so true here.

Some fires are now out due to the torrential rain that has been putting areas of the east coast of Australia under flood!
one disaster after another. The CFS and the volunteers are now sand bagging the water to help those whose homes are still standing from being flooded.

Just checking in on you all, still praying the worst is over <3 The NSW RFS announced last night that for the first time this fire season all the fires in NSW are under control. A blaze which has been burning for 210 days was finally put out on Wednesday. There's been flash flooding and plenty of rain and warnings of severe thunderstorms through NSW and Vic, so there's still plenty of crazy weather, but at least now much of the talk I'm hearing has moved to rebuilding communities.
