I wanted a really elegant card for New's Year's, that did not scream "Christmas." Some of the technical aspects of this card that I found interesting were the side embossing (putting the embossing folder in horizontal so there was flat space on the top and bottom for the sentiment), the inking to make snowdrifts, and the monochromatic color scheme. I challenge you to 1) use side embossing, 2) use only 1 color of ink and 3) use a small front panel with an oversized embellishment. This is based off a design I saw on StampTv with a Gina K. stamp set, here is the link. stamptv.ning.com/group/stamp-tv-kit-addicts/forum/topics/friday-funday-sponging-masking?xg_source=activityWhile I really liked that design, I actually like grouping more than one tree together, and I also felt like stamping on the embossed image took away from the look I wanted. Plus it was more complicated! The set from Gina K. that I have that I used for this card is this one: www.ginakdesigns.com/product/clear-stamps-you-warm-my-heart/ and I used Distress Oxide ink in Broken China as my only ink. I did not have a "Happy New Years" stamp, so I grabbed "Happy" from a birthday set, and a stamp that said, New Year's and put them on the same block. The snow drift "masking" was very easy, much easier than I thought it would be. Here is a short tutorial for snow drift masking if you want to look at it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=AN9ecKjZ0zs, you do not have to use a sticky cardstock either, just a scrap piece of paper. Here are the card measurements, pretty standard A2 card. 1 card base in white, cut vertically, so that the fold of the card is on top, @ 4 1/4" inch. Another small section of white for the front panel 2 1/4" x 3 3/4", and I loved the pop of blue inside, so I did mat the inside of the card with the blue at 4" by 5 1/4 and then a white panel cut just 1/8" shorter all around. Last note, I did not have a problem with seeing the embossing on the inside of the card, I thought it was cool. But if you don't like that, you could cut another panel for the inside. I think this card is very versatile and could be used for a lot of things-I want to do a Happy Birthday version with a star where the snowflake is and instead of snowdrifts, maybe stamp random stars on the front piece. Happy Tuesday and please post here with what you make and let me know if you have any questions!

Thank you so much for starting us off so elegantly, @kendramage! LOVE this! Great idea to turn the embossing folder for a different look, and I love the winter scene you have created.
And thanks for the link and for your own step-by-step's. I need a card for my dh's January bd and I definitely will use this as inspiration. I may get lazy and use pp instead of the stamped panel, but we will see...
Thanks again!

I may get lazy and use pp instead of the stamped panel, but we will see... That is not lazy...that is a great way to use up a scrap of good paper, or part of a smaller paper pad.

This is a great challenge to start the year. I'm looking forward to try the new technique with the embossing folder, now I just have to diced which one to use😊.

Here is mine, a birthday card for my dh. As I said, lazy: I used a pp panel instead of stamping and pretty much exactly copied your sample, @kenramage. I had fully intended to add a large navy snowflake, but then there was no room after I attached the greeting. Your time to howl by Gramma Dee, on Flickr

I had fully intended to add a large navy snowflake I think that super wolf counts at a large single embellishment! Very cool card!

My card. I did only use one ink-it was a gina k pine green and for the main part of the trees I stamped off on a scrap first. then I used it full strength for the details and the little dots were stamped 3 or 4 times to get them darker. The embossing folder is a triangle one from stampin up and the Noel is my big embellishment and is from stampin up. Since I couldn't ink the background (didn't want a green sky) I used patterned paper. Thanks for the fun challenge

Printing this to take to my crop.
@kendramage, I'm wondering if it might be wise to edit your post title to include Tuesday's date? That way when people want to catch up, they can make sure they've got everything from the titles?

Great cards, kendramage, grammadee, and gale! Mine isn’t strictly in compliance with the 3 challenges, but I did have embossing, used mostly one color, had a small front panel, and included a somewhat large die cut in front. The red is just the tablecloth underneath the card when I took the photo. It was not part of the card.

Thanks for the fun challenge Love your card, those trees are so pretty! scrapnnana that is a great card, I need to try a card where I cut the oval out of the middle. I haven't done that yet. I'm wondering if it might be wise to edit your post title to include Tuesday's date? I edited it, great idea, thanks!

gale w, Your card is beautiful. I love the dimension of the cloud background, the closer houses and the trees up front. That's a great embossing folder design. The sequins are a great touch. scrapnnana, That is is the cutest little snowman. I love the flourish and the snowflake embossing. The texture on his hat and scarf are wonderful. I love that shade of blue you chose. I am still working on my card, but hope to finish it today.

Well, here's mine. I struggled with the embossing folder that kept cutting my paper. I switched folders and that one worked. I used only brown ink (computer ink) and made a large image, but didn't use a front panel. Somewhat along the line of the challenge. I really do like the side embossing idea and will use that technique again. Thanks @kendramage . Birthday Wishes

Very cute, nylene!
Edited to add: I like the embossing folder you used, but I especially love your sentiment. It is a gorgeous font. I know you said you got the sentiment from the Design Store, but for those who want to know what font it is, it looks like it might be the Samantha font.

nylene , I really like that font! Can I ask which embossing folder cut your paper, I have one that has such deep grooves, thinner paper with it gets cut too. I don't know its name, but it has kind of large polkadots. Great card!

@kendramage, Thank you. I was using a Stampin Up folder with lots of tiny little squares. I don't know the name of it, but it looks like tiny quilting. Each time it broke the paper in a spot or two. I think I will try again with an extra piece of computer paper in the folder to see if that will help. It just seemed too deep for the paper and it was 110 lb paper. The font on the card is a cut file from Design Studio. I just printed it instead of cutting it. I have very few sentiment and image stamps. Maybe by the end of these challenges I will begin to purchase a few more. Thanks for the challenge.

azcrafty I don't know either, I am impressed you can use flicker! I have to resize my pics and load them from my computer. That rose on your card is beautiful and I love how the panel is cut. Was that a die cut or a punch?

azcrafty, I left love in the gallery. If you go down below your card image to the arrow, click on it and select BBC code. Select your size, copy the address in the box and post it in the body of your post. That should make it post here as an image. Good luck.

Yes, azcrafty , it is all in which address you use. If you follow nylene's instructions, and edit your post to replace the address you used with the BBcode you copy and paste, it will work. I hope you don't mind that I am linking your card here. Card challenge Tuesday 1-7-20 by azcrafty, on Flickr
