That is wonderful! She sounds brilliant and any grad program would be lucky to have her.

That is SO awesome !!! She must be verrrry smart**, and bless her for doing all of this with the extra stress of mental illness! How sweet that she wants to help children AND animals!!! I hope she gets the one at Pitt for all the reasons you mentioned. **DH is an engineer with 2 Bachelor's and 2 Master's degrees. When he was going through school for the second and third times, I would look at his math problems and just......OMG.....I knew that math like that would NEVER EVER happen in my life, and I was in awe! I have seriously thought about this a lot----is it POSSIBLE for ANYone to get ANY degree they want IF they try hard enough? We may be very wrong, but DH and I have decided the answer is "NO!" The reason I say that is because I am a person who failed algebra TWICE in high school, EVEN THOUGH I got help from my teacher, my brother, and I tried SO SO hard. When I went back to college as an older adult, I once again worked SO hard to get algebra, and I swear it almost killed me. I got help from my professor, from MANY tutors, from DH, I spent HOURS on my homework, but the stress just did me in. I was SURE I was pregnant....nope, the months of missed cycles was the STRESSSSS of algebra !!!!!!!!!!! If you're even reading this far that is the reason DH and I have concluded that some people just can NOT master certain subjects, no matter HOW hard they try. And, that makes me even more interested in why some people can be engineers, and some can't. I've always liked that saying about " people can do ANYthing if they try hard enough"....but I just don't know if that's true? That's why when I say your DD must be very smart, I reallllly mean it! I am SO interested in this, I should probably start a thread about it.

How exciting! I wish her the best! My daughter was accepted to Pitt for next year (undergrad) and she's SO freaking excited! She fell in love with the school and the city. She's hoping we can find a way to afford to send her and we're hoping for some lovely scholarships so we can! Such wonderful news! You should both be so proud!

Congratulations to her! My DD also graduated with a degree in biomedical engineering. At one point she wanted to design medical devices for children. Right now though she’s working on heart valves. My son in law is in the process of applying to grad school also. He applied to 7 schools and was offered interviews at all of them! He has interviews planned for the next couple of months. I’m hoping they don’t move too far away also, but his top choice as of now is in North Carolina and we live in Minnesota.

I know what you mean about being so far away. She also applied to a school in Florida and University of Texas! I want her to go where she wants but I still want to be able to see my baby.

Oh, the email was AMAZING! OMG I just about passed out waiting to get to the "admitted" part of the video! LOL! She was admitted to Communication Sciences ( ?) I think---she wants to be a Speech Therapist and this is the program she would need. She LOVED Pitt from the second she set foot on campus. I loved it as well. I hope we can work it out so she can go. She got in to all the schools she applied to, though. She's just waiting to hear back from University of Maryland. I think they send out their acceptances later this month.

They have great in-state tuition. We live near Pittsburgh, and Pitt is still pretty high for in-state. What great choices for your daughter. I hope she gets accepted at Maryland! Let me know where she chooses, or if you have any questions about either university! My Pitt daughter loved having a single dorm room her first two years. Both of my daughters love Maryland and Pitt!

We live in Maryland and she likes University of Maryland a lot, but she just fell head over heels for Pitt! LOL! When she told me she wanted to visit Pitt I was like . I didn't get the appeal. Then we went, and I was like . I drank the Kool-aid! LOL! UMD's tuition is great in comparison, but we won't know until at least the end of the month...so at least a couple of weeks yet. We shall see. She won't be upset to go to UMD, but she wouldn't be toooooo sad if she didn't get in either! LOL! She's gotten in to everywhere she's applied to and UMD is the last school she's waiting to hear back from, so she'll go somewhere. I very well may be picking your brain a little later about one of the schools! Thanks so much! I can't believe that girl in my avatar is going to college in the fall!

I can't wait to hear where she decides to go! I grew up in Bowie, MD, and my parents still live there. So growing up, I would always take the kids on an all day tour of Maryland when visiting family. She can't go wrong with either school! Does your daughter like sports? We have season tickets to Pitt football and basketball. Lots of fun to go to the games.

We're not too far from UMD--we live near Rockville, MD and she's been to lots of Terps basketball games and loves those. She even went to the women's NCAA tourmament game to watch Princeton v. ?? and President Obama was there!!! She was psyched! So I'm sure she'd love to go to the Pitt games. She's not as big into football, but I'm pretty sure she'll get into the school spirit and go. It's totally her thing. LOL! I'm so excited for her and all the great things that lie ahead for her. So many great opportunities for her!

We watched it on tv. Last basketball season, Jay-Z was at the Pitt Duke game. My daughter is on the dance team and got to see him as he was sitting courtside. Always fun to see who shows up to these college games! Pitt plays in the Steelers stadium, so they have all the conveniences of a pro stadium (nice seats, jumbotron, etc.) but they have to take buses to the games as the stadium isn't on campus. But they have a great student section at both sports!
