So I have a weird obsession with Starbucks cold cup tumblers and coffee mugs. I use them though, they are not cheesily displayed in some glass case never to be touched. So there were some super cute glass mugs they had at Christmas with silver iridescent glitter in the handle. I knew the day they were putting them out for sale and went to a location I knew would have them on my way to work. Some lady came in that morning and bought every one of several of their holiday items. Granted she could have been buying gifts but most likely they ended up on eBay. So they released come new stuff for Valentines. I found the cold cup tumbler I wanted over the weekend. But have not been able to find the glass mug with heart confetti in the handle. So I checked eBay. I CANNOT FUCKING believe how inflated they jack the prices up. I actually found a listing that had the holiday and the valentines mug I’ve been looking for $100!!! They are $14 in store!!! Most listings for this $14 item are At least $30. Many are $50. Grrrrrrr!!! www.ebay.com/itm/2X-Starbucks-Glitter-Handle-Glass-Mug-2019-2020-Valentine-Confetti-Handle-Mug/293416444053?pageci=ce6de0c5-a4de-419d-9a8d-80323320b0fdI know they are doing this for a profit ,but that’s beyond ridiculous. Okay first world vent over.

Yes it most certainly does. Well, maybe its not eBay's fault, but I think retailers need to start putting limits on the number of items one can purchase to help prevent this ridiculousness. So wrong. Oh, we also noticed that employees seem to get first dibs on a lot of items as well.

Oh, we also noticed that employees seem to get first dibs on a lot of items as well. Yes I was pretty irritated at Starbucks during the holidays for that reason. I wish they would put a 2 per person limit on each item. Since they closed their online store this has gotten really bad. And only tier 1 stores get the full lines. They told me that lady was waiting when they opened that morning. She bought all 6 that they had of the glass mug.

I'll swing by my Sbux in the morning and see if they have them. This ebay scalping doesn't seem to happen here as much. I'll let you know! And I'll only charge you double the price.

If they are still out there, and you want us peas to look, let us know.
That said, I can't imagine people will pay $100 for that so I hope nobody buys them

If people quit paying the ridiculous price, then the scalpers will be out of business.
I agree that greed has ruined many things for the average person.

Certainly not ebay's fault.
I regularly buy items for my business that cost $40 and sell them for $200+. It's just part of doing business. Your beef should be with starbucks. Not the seller and not ebay.

Honestly I blame the people who will spend that kind of money for a mug when they know the original price is so much less. The I have to have it just takes over.

I have literally 5 Starbucks within a 2 mile radius from my house - if you want me to look for these, or any other Starbucks item, please just let me know.

It’s the same with Rae Dunn items. People scoop all of the hot new stuff up at the store and sell it for huge markups on eBay.
Beyond frustrating!

They are also selling them at outrageously inflated prices on Poshmark.

On the flip side, people are willing to pay and if it's an auction (not buy it now like you are speaking of) they are the ones bidding and inflating the cost.
More than once DS has bought a gaming item that came in a bundle. Like a game and a promotional item together. He only wants one of the items but no way to buy just that in store. Buys bundle and lists unopened other "half" on ebay as an auction.
People bid it up to more than the cost of original bundle that you can get in store. I don't get it. Perhaps it's "sold out" in some areas.(?) If not, I don't get it. It's like a feeding frenzy.

I agree that Starbucks should limit how many one person can buy, but even that won’t stop someone who’s really determined. They will either go to every store in their area that day, or they will go every day and buy the limit because who is going to know they already bought the limit yesterday?
And the reality is that the stores want to sell this stuff and not get stuck with it after the holiday when they will have to discount it, so they’re happy to sell six to one person on the first day they put them out and if it’s not you, too bad so sad. It definitely does suck.

It would be nice if Starbucks would only put out so many a day. That way more people might find them.

The sellers are listing it with a high opening bid or as a buy it now at the high price so they are guaranteed to get what they want for it, that is if it sells.

But in this instance, no. My DS listed at basically price he paid for that part (to just recoup his money) and the crazy bidding did the inflating to final price. Good for him, but why when more than can buy in store?

But I agree that people will get into insane bidding wars for stuff they really want. Remember the old days of scrapbooking when people would bid up those tear bear paper piecings and they’d sell for hundreds of dollars? Nuts!

My HomeSense store locally doesn't have much and rarely the "new/popular" items. I wanted a mixing bowl set but was not paying quadrulple the price, plus shipping, on eBay. A friend was in the US and was able to pick it up for me. I do have a good collection of the pieces I want to own, there were just a few pieces I was stalking the shops for lol. Finally just got a bird house and now I think I'm good for a while!

You guys are sweet to look for them. If someone does find one I can PayPal or Venmo the cost and shipping. I tried one of my many Starbucks - no valentines merchandise whatsoever, but I can get Virginia and DC “you were there” mugs - the new series - and a beautiful large cold drink tumbler with cherry blossoms all over and “Washington DC” up one side. As I go where the other Starbucks are, I’ll stop in and check it out.

If people would stop buying it at that price, the price would be lower. Something is only worth what someone will pay for it. It is a societal problem, not an eBay problem.

I think anything that's marketed as collectible or seasonal only has the danger of having that happen--but that's the nature of business. While I think it's a good idea to limit how many someone could buy at one time, I don't have a problem with others buying them to sell them. If someone wants to pay those outrageous prices, that's on them.
