I haven't used my cameo in a while and I consider myself a novice in some areas especially the pixscan mat. I tried using it via a scanner instead of my phone. All went well with loading image and tracing but then it wouldn't read the registration marks and it wasn't showing I was using a pixscan mat. On the 3rd try it cut but it cut slightly off the image I traced. Next time I sent pixscan mat through it now makes a loud chattering sound and won't return the mat though the carriage! What is going on? This machine may be a few years old but it is like new.

I won't say I'm an expert, but is your machine cutting normally when set a simple task? Can you "warm up" again and build your confidence in the machine by cutting a few test shapes first, before going onto the tricky stuff?! I have only used the pixscan with my phone and it worked beautifully. I followed the advice here www.silhouetteschoolblog.com/2014/09/silhouette-pixscan-tutorial-for.html though I don't know if there's a troubleshooting guide for when things don't go according to plan!

Ok just retried both a standard cut and the pixscan mat again and the machine stopped chattering, worked normally (thank goodness) exceptfor cutting around the image correctly. I think my machine is somehow out of alignment??? Anyone ever had this issue and how did you fix it?

I had this problem with the Portrait while using Pixscan mat recently. I've used it before, no problems. I kept redoing all the settings, doing the calibration, lightening photos (I use it via phone). I searched for help, the Silhouette site and help is useless. I emailed with no responses. One thing, make sure your machine and software is updated. I found out there isn't an update for the machine I own, only the 2nd generation. I need to revisit this again.
But one thing I read, which may have been my issue, is to make sure you have a a lot of light around the machine while it's cutting. The laser that looks for the registration marks can be very touchy if there is a shadow. I tried using my Ott light and I think maybe I had it too focused on the machine whereas it needs just overall light, preferably natural I guess. Which in the winter I can't scrapbook during the day, so will have to wait to figure it out.
I ended up putting more of a border around the images so even though it was slightly shifted to the side, it still cut it out. I think its called "offsetting" in the tools menu. But then I ended up just fussy cutting.
I get frustrated with these machines! too much work.

I’ve had great luck with tech support at Silhouette using their chat feature.

Thanks for posting this question. I didn't know that I had to update my machine. I just thought that updating the software was enough. I'm having problems with the PixScan mat too, and I have a Portrait 2. I'll connect it and see if I can update the machine too. It used to work well with the PixScan mat, but now it's terrible. Thanks for the advice!

I've emailed Silhouette because the download button for the Portrait 2 firmware update isn't working. I'm getting an error message that says the file can't be found.
