I’ve been away from scrapping for a while and I’ve recently started watching process videos for inspiration. Who knew a mass of tangled thread could become a nice pop of color and texture on a layout 😜

omg lol! Right!? I love that term, thread balls! there are a few YTers I've watched doing that. I tried it on one layout and decided that one is a hard pass for me though. Still, gotta love the creativity there!

Thread balls? Me thinks i need to see.
I'm thinking a ruined tassel attempt, sung to the tune of SNL's Schweddy Balls.

My other hobby is sewing, and when I see them on layouts it always reminds of what it looks like when something is amiss with my bobbin and I get a big gob of tangled thread on the underside of my project. I have an aversion to them

Thanks for the link. I’ve seen that before and it’s one of those things that I like on other people’s layouts but not my own. I can’t get myself to do anything that I think might look messy on my layouts. I also don’t do any mixed media for the same reason but I appreciate the artistic skills that other people have with it.

I like her overall page design. The cocoa vanilla pp collection is really pretty. I am assuming the stitched grid is navy like the thread ball.
If you could ignore the gross factor, I was thinking there would be a lot of interesting texture in dust bunnies!

I've always thought of them as "thread tangles" more than "thread balls" and really like when Missy Whiddon uses them. I've done a few but usually forget about them as an option for texture!

Try this video at around 4:50 I did not envision that when I heard the term thread ball, but I like the look and I think it's something I could even do! I'm usually paper and diecuts type of scrapper.
I don't watch much youtube but I like that she sticks to the topic and talks at the right speed.

Oh, my gosh I haven't done that for like 3 years!! Of course, I've been mainly digital for the last year. I kind of like the term thread ball. I always called them nests. I like texture, so this was a quick and easy and cheap way to do so.

I’ve never been a fan of even the loose thread ends, but what do I know? If you like it, go for it!

I always called them nests. Thread ball makes me think of hair ball... having 4 cats, this is not a helpful association when I'm creating! I like "nest" tho - that describes it well! sounds better than "tangle". I think this may have to be a challenge next month

I've always heard them described as nests and use them occasionally, although I like mine to look a lot neater than the example in the linked youtube video.

I've seen it done with twine and it does not look as bad as that clump of shower drain hair.

Ok, yeah, Shimelle uses those here and there in her Christmas album (pocket page) embellishment clusters, usually in lovely gold thread. It seems like a fun way to add some texture and shine without adding a lot of bulk to a 3x4 card. sometimes I like the look, sometimes it’s a bit too messy for me. I think I would prefer it with fancy threads. Less like hair balls!
