My husband has been obsessed with the "turducken" cake. 3brothersbakery.com/product/pumpecapple-piecake/ Its $250 š His birthday is at the end of the month so I've been looking around for recipes to recreate this, minus the nuts (I'm allergic). I found this recipe of sorts and think its totally doable. www.charlesphoenix.com/thanksgiving-cherpumple-turducken-desserts/What kind of frosting do you think would work best? I don't want anything too soft since it has to help support the cakes. I'm planning on using 3 dowel rods also to help support the cake. He uses whipper cream cheese frosting, is that the best option? Any other ideas or suggestions? I'm a passable baker, as in I can follow directions and have it come out well, but not creative enough to figure this out on my own lol

The original cake uses cream cheese frosting as well, and the nut pieces on the frosting remind me of a carrot cake which is also typically a cream cheese style frosting so I would go with that.

Yep. I would go with cream cheese too. Post a pic when you're done. This looks interesting.

Cream cheese.
If needed, you can add more powdered sugar to make it thicker and provide better support. (If you do homemade cream cheese frosting, which is super easy to make.

I would make it only two layers for a starter! Cream cheese frosting is good!

That cake is insane I just showed my daughter, which was a colossal mistake, because now SHE wants a turducken cake, too. I like this frosting- it is cream cheese based, but I feel like it has a better stiffness than most cream cheese frostings. It isn't overwhelmingly cream cheese tasting or too sweet, which I like. www.flourandspiceblog.com/vanilla-bean-buttercream/What kind of cakes / pies are you going to use? I am so intrigued now.

Thanks everyone!
I liked the idea if cream cheese frosting, but I'm going to make my own. The stuff from a container doesn't seem as stiff enough, at least what he used. Besides it's easy enough and soooo good!
I know for sure that I'm going to use a cherry pie, and an apple pie. If I do decide to tackle the 3rd, not sure if I should do pumpkin or something else. š¤

Are you going to make this from scratch?
It would hold together better.

I think cream cheese frosting would work fine.
Iād have to get all new pans to do something like that because my pie pans are all too deep that the resulting pies would be too tall to fit inside of the cake layers. And even with 8ā pies, I think the cake layer pans would have to be deeper to accommodate the pies with cake batter all around and over the top.

How do the pies not get overcooked? Do you bake the pies completely before putting them into the cake batter? I thought my son's request for a rainbow colored cake with sprinkles and donuts on it was crazy! Wow, good luck!!

I am not sure my cake pans will fit a pie + enough batter to make a cake with a pie in it. Something to research. I need to see if more people have tried this. I am sure that some have! How do the pies not get overcooked? Do you bake the pies completely before putting them into the cake batter? Apparently you get pies that are precooked. I am guessing that baking them inside the bake batter prevents them from getting overcooked and dried out.

Most regular cake pans are only about 1.5ā to 2ā deep, so it would have to be a really thin pie to fit inside a traditional cake layer. That $250 cake you linked has to have deeper layers. Did you guys catch that this thing weighs 23.5 POUNDS?

I think some of the frozen pies or inexpensive bakery pies are not as tall as a homemade pie so maybe it would fit. This looks fun to try to create but might turn into one big mess! Good luck and please update if you do it.

Just had a thought, how about using the smaller 'pot pie' pan size for the pies? Would be a bit different but more doable and fit your standard cake pans! tyra

Am I the only one who thinks this looks disgusting? It is not for me, but my kids have been obsessed by it for years. I do, grudgingly, admire the insanity of turkducken cake and have thought of making one with the kids to see what such a magnificent beast would taste like.

Am I the only one who thinks this looks disgusting? Youāre not alone. I donāt think I would like that conglomeration of flavors all mixed together. I like pie. I like cake. Just not too sure they should be consumed together in one dish.

Am I the only one who thinks this looks disgusting? Nope. I like pie. I like cake. But I can't imagine how all of those flavors and textures can make an appetizing dessert.

Am I the only one who thinks this looks disgusting? You're not wrong lol Not something I'd crave. But DH has been talking about it since we first saw it somewhere years ago. The things we do for our husbands lol

Am I the only one who thinks this looks disgusting? Iām with you. I love a good homemade pie, but have never liked cake so this looks like a way to ruin good pie to me personally. I know Iām weird in my cake dislike. Just imagining taking a bite with pie and cake together sounds awful to me.

Hell, since I would never eat that I would just bake hostess fruit pies inside the cake batter.

It sounds like fun to me. Some brands of store bought pies are smaller than others. I would study and find the smallest ones possible. So what if it falls, your DH will eat around it.

tyra did you see this recipe? It seems a little more simple because you are adding the cake batter to the previously baked pies instead of trying to transfer the pie into a cake pan. Cake recipe
