When DH asked me to watch "Joker" a week ago, I immediately thought: "ugh, I'll give it a few minutes, but I'm SURE I'll be bored, then I'll find something else to do!" (I don't like action, comics, sci-fi, avenger, etc. types of movies).
---for those who don't want to read my "novel", please scroll lower and see the link for this GREAT interview w/ Joaquin!!---
I was especially interested in his thoughts on violence, and would
have loved to hear more, but as he said, it wasn't a topic to delve
into in this type of interview.
Little did I know that I'd be FASCINATED with his story, and LOVE it! I had NO idea it was about "Joker" (Arthur) as a person, and I also had no idea how sorry I'd feel for him, not to mention---learn about a mental illness I'd never heard of. To clarify--the other mental illnesses he had are familiar to me, but NOT the one with the uncontrollable laughter and/or crying. How horrific that must be!
Aside from that, this also made me want to learn WAY more about Joaquin Phoenix, and the making of "Joker", etc. Anddd, now I am a HUGE fan of his !!! I now have a list of MANY of his movies I'd like to see!
Speaking of my list, I'd love to know what my fellow fans think of his talent in OTHER movies, too! I'm currently in the middle of "The Master", and really enjoying it, too. (sidebar----Man, I miss Philip Seymour Hoffman---he was SO GOOD !!!!!)
I've watched several vids, but I prefer reading articles, and have read MANY!!! Aside from learning about the director, the production design, the makeup, everrrrything! ---I especially enjoyed many vids/ written articles of interviews with Joaquin.
I am SO glad I stumbled upon this one tonight, because I was pretty done with this topic, but youtube knew I "might be interested" and put the little thumbnail there. I'm SO thankful they did!
THIS one is just the BEST, IMHO.

Also, for any of you who want to share your thoughts on Joker, AND / OR his other roles, I'd love to see a list of your faves of his.
1. "Her" the other night (Netflix) and liked it.
2. "Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far On Foot" (Amazon Prime) Very good!
I have a feeling this isn't that well-known, so I'm glad I discovered it. Here's a clip:

3. "The Master" (can't wait to finish this one, I'm halfway through)
4. I want to watch "You Were Never Really There" (Amazon) I'm curious what y'all thought of that one.
5. I'm intrigued by "I'm Still Here" and plan to watch it someday.
REALLLY curious what y'all thought of that one, especially!
Movies of his I've seen and liked/ loved:
1. "Walk The Line"....I DEFINITELY want to watch it again soon!
Saw years ago---I can't begin to say how great he was, AND the fact that he learned to change his SPEAKING voice, and sang every song himself, AND taught himself to play guitar----whhhaaat? (*sidebar: kudos to Reese W'spoon for teaching herself to play the auto-harp ( I think it's called ?) for her role. I've tried to teach myself the piano, and....it is NOT easy!!
2. "Gladiator"
I mean.....do I even need to say how great he was in this?
