With all the talk about HS toner stamp pad And the Deco Arts gel, I got to thinking about all the different ways to foil paper and which method I liked best. I really like when I can achieve a nice smooth image using my laminator and toner sheets. I have yet to try the foil quill I just bought at TM, and am considering returning it.
Which method do you use most and why?

I've only tried toner and my laminator.
Sheets of toner I printed at work were not as successful as the pre-printed sheets I've purchased.
And I don't think it's worth the cost, honestly, of the pre-printed elements...I'd prefer to buy pre-foiled pps or cardstocks and die cut them. Or use embellishments that already have foil.
I also bought a toner pen from Heidi Swapp and it NEVER worked - I think the toner must dry out so quickly, which makes sense if you watch Heidi's demo of her new ink pad.
I am interested in the new Deco Gel that will let you foil with only pressure. But then I look at the cost of the gel, plus all the foils you might want to choose from, and I end up thinking it's not worth the cost! It's just gimicky. Pretty, but gimicky.

If you have some time, check out Nancy Stamps on youtube. She has a ton of foiling videos trying different products and methods - some that are branded for foiling, some that aren't, some that work, some not so much. A lot of the videos are long because she films live so that you can see how things really work.
I do like the Gina K foilables that match up with her stamps and dies. I use a Minc instead of a laminator, but that's just because I got mine for an insane low price.

I just ordered the Couture Creations Go Press and Foil. I never got into the Minc, so this seemed a better option for me.
Can’t wait to get it.

I seem to have every foil contraption out there... the Minc, Gemini Foilpress, Foil Quill. Guess I love foil... Sadly I haven't yet used the Foil Quill, you know, the thing you "had to have" and when you have it, you never use it... so I can't comment on that. It looks cool but ... one day. I love the Minc but the results are hit or miss when I use my laser printer. It's better since I purchased a genuine replacement cartridge for my laser printer but still it's not always perfect. I just recently saw someone say they add a cardstock shim and ever since, the results have been perfect so I must try that the next time... As for the Gemini Foilpress, well, that's another "I have to have it" ... but I can say that I have used it! Only once, but I LOVE the results! It's a bit of trial and error, but I was very excited with the results.

I could write a really long review of my mediocre results. Ugh. My Gemini Foilpress is on it’s way. I was not impressed with the Couture Creations Go Press and Foil results. I’m hoping the Foilpress is better.

I just wish Deco foil worked on it, I have a rather large collection of that. I haven't used it yet but I also got the foiling kit for my SNC. The idea of being able to foil my stamped images was just too tempting.

I’d love to purchase some “hot foil” dies, but my goodness the prices! I tried using regular thin dies with the Go Press, and it does work, but the foiling wasn’t perfect. I’m hoping that the pressure of the Gemini will give a better imprint.

I have used preprinted toner sheets from Gina K, Deco Foil gel with stencils and the Deco adhesive pen, Deco Foil Toner Sheets and Foam Transfer Sheets. I also got the Glimmer Hot Foil machine from Spellbinders, which I like but have had some difficulty getting the foil to cover completely. I don't know if it is because I use it with my Vagabond and it doesn't go slow enough to press evenly over the entire plate or what. When it comes out the way it is supposed to, I love it. After all that, I have to say my favorite way to foil has been the gel over stencils, then running through a laminator. Waiting for the gel to dry isn't fun, but I have had the best foil coverage this way. The Deco Foil adhesive pen is really good for foiling just part of a die cut sentiment, or a distressed foil look around the edges, and no heating required. Just apply adhesive, let it set, then rub on the foil and you're done.

I have a set of dies that I bought that I thought I loved the look of online, but when I got them, they didn't cut where I expected. (Here's a link to a picture of the die: www.brutusmonroe.com/products/sentiments-craft-die ) I thought it was a word die on a shadow background, or that at least the words were cut out, but the die is a big blob of outline and the words just emboss - and not deeply. I tried stenciling thru the opening, but I didn't like how that looked, I was ready to throw them out (got them on a really good sale). Then I remembered a video by Amazing Paper Grace where she scanned some dies and printed them and foiled them to make foil borders. Tried it with these, and the results were AWESOME. I've got them where the background prints and also where the word itself prints. Then I foil them, ink them if I want to, and cut them with the die and they look like what I wanted them to in the first place.

I want to try this. I don't have a laminator/minc and I don't want to buy one, nor a laser printer, nor a foil press.
But this, I could get behind.

I bought the foil from AliExpress and the two cards I made were stunning. I would show you a photo but I'm on vacation for a week!

So basically this is an embossing powder that adheres to the foil when heat is applied. I like it but wonder if it leaves a slightly raised foiled area? I like the idea but prefer a flat foiled image.

I have a jar of sticky embossing powder that I bought back in the day to use with glitter. This looks to be pretty much the same thing. That stuff didn't really add dimension like regular embossing powder, it was similar to a layer of glue once heated. It was a little tricky to keep from overheating it, and I didn't think it worked that well with glitter, but it was good with pearl powders. I could see it being good withing foil. I'll have to see if I still have mine and if it's still good.

So you can use a regular laminator to create a foiled image?
What do you think the long-term viability of foil is in scrapbooks?
