This challenge is so you have bragging rights over cleaning up after your craft session, or finally scrubbing that floor that hasn't been touched in a month (or more if you're me), organizing a supply or your whole room, sorting or editing photos, organizing page kits, basically anything that’s not actually crafting that needs to get finished in the craft room. Note for teams: If you’re on the team challenge you can claim 10 point for each hour spent. Your time doesn’t have to be consecutive. You can claim a bonus point for before and after photos. grammadee

So far my new set up with the file boxes holding plastic folders of paper/cs actually seems to be working for me, so yay! I have been able to reach for my colored cardstock files quickly and easily and today I actually found pieces that would work when I didn’t think I had anything suitable. I bought the Avery Elle plastic envelopes for storing stamps and dies but I didn’t charge out all of them - most of my stamps are still in the original packaging with a split down the side, which works until the plastic packaging tears. Now that I have the extra reaching space in my cart I’m thinking I will finish the job and transfer all of them. The Avery Elle envelopes are very nice. Who knows, I might go all Jennifer McGuire and put labels on them. Probably not. But you never know.
Actually I’m hoping to organize less and make more this month. January was weird.

Spent a bunch of time today clearing off my office desk, getting rid of a bunch of now unneeded wires, unpacking my new printer abd computer, and trying to navigate through getting stuff up and running. Managed to log into here and print AussieMeg's sketches for today. Still need to get the computer to speak to my email account. I am not cut off from email b/c I can pick it up on my phone and my ipad, but I like to go through it on the desk top. Not sure if those are claimable hours, but I am feeling alot better about being in here than I did this morning!

I’m so happy that the set up is working for you, joblackford. I bought the knock off plastic envelopes for storing my dies, but I really like them on that. I need to go through and cut samples of the words because it’s hard to tell what those script fonts say sometimes without a sample cut in the envelope too. grammadee, huzzah for cleaning up and setting up. I hope you can get the computer to talk to your email account. Also, I would count that. You are rocking the photo scanning, Linda. Did you do it all in one four hour stint, or do you break it up?

Phrases or embellishments that are generic travel themes
Phrases or embellishments that are beach or Disney themed
Phrases or embellishments like "great day", "photo op", etc.

Wow! I’m impressed Linda! @elaynef, that’s a brilliant idea to post that here. grammadee her pea name is volunteergirl. I never go to that forum but did the other day and saw that post. I don’t have travel themed stuff. I should go through and look for the other things though.

I spent at least an hour today organizing digitals! I had purchased a few new things back around Thanksgiving when I was working on my highlight photo book but we were traveling and busy so I never got around to putting the files in their proper home. I’ve had plenty of opportunities to do that since but I just tidied them away in a temporary folder instead of getting out my proper drive. The folder had collected quite a few things... but today I finally cleared it out. Everything should be in Lightroom now, and I quickly tagged the new stuff as I went, so I should be able to find it!

Linda , you rocked the scanning! I can't believe you finished all 6 boxes already. It also shows you what a procrastinator I am, as it would take me years. Fantastic job!
@elaynef, what a splendid way to get rid of your unwanted and hopefully find a home for them where they'll get used.
joblackford, do you do a light, medium, or heavy tag? I tend to over tag (heavy) which is why I'm so far behind in it. I need to come up with a better tagging system that's easier.

Thanks LisaDV - I stacked everything in DD19's room which means I need to at least find a semi-permanent home for it all before she comes home in early March on Spring break. Day 6 - 5 hours Day 7 - 5 hours about to start more scanning - currently working on 4 photo envelopes from a single trip (easy) but the next folder has a mix of photos from at least the early 1960s to the mid-1990s and possibly a wider span. That'll take a good chunk of time to scan, label (please let them be labelled), and sort into digital folders by year.

I barely tag at all! In fact most of the time I add nothing. I don't have a big digital stash and I don't actually do much digital scrapping, plus most of what I buy is just basic digital stamps so the word/theme is pretty easy to search. I just got a proper digital kit for the first time (with papers cards embellishments etc) and I figured since it was called "we the people" which I'll never remember and the designer isn't one I know well I would tag it, but I just added election, vote, America, and patriotic. And in LR it's easy to add those tags to the whole kit at once as you import.
Most of the designers I buy from actually give their kits very obvious names which is helpful. My most common search is for IACB (Geralyn Sy's stamps and templates are my favs). From time to time I need a label or something more generic and that's where it would be helpful to add tags if the designer wasn't kind enough to title the file "blue label."
I can see where things would be different if I had a lot of full digital kits. I guess like with paper scrapping it depends whether you start with the kit or do a lot of mixing and matching, searching by color, etc. I'm a very simple scrapper! And I have a good visual memory.

It sounds like you're being really diligent and organizing as you work. I scanned all of the photos in my parent's house one vacation and I did NOTHING to organize them beyond labeling the folders "green album scans" or "red album scans". I had grand plans to edit them, color correct all the 70s pink photos, organize and tag... but of course I didn't. I'm still glad I have them as a backup but it's a huge job to process that many photos. Cheering you on from the sidelines!

I'm finishing up another gs album and the bookshelves dont have 1 mm of room left. I emptied the very top to store some 12x12 albums up there lying flat to get a little more shelf space for gs albums which are 11x8 Ordered 4 more gs albums.
There was an inch of dust up there. I dont climb on stuff to clean because I know some old ladies who broke their hip doing that, but I made an exception this time. My grands dust my high spaces for me when they visit but I'd never had them do that space. (For $ of course)
I'm also finding it a lot easier to scrap since I cleaned out my stickers last week. And I got a message from the pea I sent them to that she received them.
I still wish I could get rid of couch so I could get more bookcases and have all my albums in the same room, but it's too comfortable for napping. I cant part with it.

@elaynef , that's funny about the couch. I'm actually trying to free up room to get one in my room.
Linda, can you do other things while scanning or do you have to be attentive and invested that whole time?
joblackford, I like to mix and match things. I've been only using a couple of kits at a time lately because my tagging is so far behind.

Some of the unlabeled ones are from my childhood and we moved around so much that location is a HUGE clue to date and some of the unlabeled ones have printing dates on them which helps. Found some awesome vintage photos of my American great-grandparents (3/4 were Irish immigrants, the 4th was American born to Irish immigrant parents). Turns out that the earliest photos were from the 1920s and the most recent was of my youngest in 2010.

This is the perfect challenge for me this month. I got one new kallax for my scrapbook room, which has sent me down rabbit hole that will have to take a long time to dig my way out of. I am excited and motivated...so I guess that is good. I have tomorrow off work and am really looking forward to being in there organizing.

Day 9 - 5 hrs Day 10 -5 hrs Day 11 - 5 hrs Day 12 - 4 hrs Day 13 5 hrs Day 14 - 4 hrs Day 15 - 2 hrs Day 16 - 5 hrs
And the loose photos are pretty much scanned. There are a few that need to be done on the flatbed scanner that I've set aside for now but otherwise - I'm done.
Approximately 10 thousand loose photos scanned this month!
Moving onto slides - which is a MUCH slower and more tedious process. There are two LARGE Uhaul moving boxes full of slide trays(which hold 80 slides each).

6 hrs today - setting up my new slide scanner and scanning (and labelling) 366 slides
I haven't made a dent in box one yet...
some neat slides though - mum went to, I think, every country in Europe except Albania back in the 60s when she was teaching in DoD schools in Germany and Belgium. So far I've found slides from England, Austria, Holland, Denmark, Germany, and Sweden...
And slides of my Uncle in his Air Force uniform from 1961

Still scanning slides - 21 boxes to go (each with 60-140 slides in it)...hopefully I can finish before the end of the month. At least thanks to this challenge I'll have some points for my team even though the closest I've gotten to scrapbooking so far is cutting out ENGLAND with the Cricut for DD13's Thinking Day project board.
