A friend mentioned she was heading off to a Galentines party where she was going to make Valentine cards and drink Champagne with some girlfriends. I thought that sounded fun. Do you celebrate Galentines? If so, how do you celebrate?

Not usually. This year a group of us is actually getting together to do a dinner. But it’s not for this holiday. One of our buddies is heading to Mayo later so they can work her up for the week. She has a cancer that was removed 2 years ago. She’s nervous, as she didn’t really get an explanation from her dr on why she needs to go now. So, we’re doing dinner a few days before Valentine’s Day to cheer her up and make her feel loved. We’re going to surprise her by all wearing her fav color to dinner. She will love it! 😁

I was just in Target and there was a large labeled section for cards. Someone is celebrating.

Yes. A group of girlfriends go to a tasting room and have wine and cheese plates. I also am sending cards to out of town friends.

DD and her friends do. They are early 30's, mostly single and view it as a chance to get together for dinner. They aren't gifting each other or giving cards though. It's just a fun reason to have a dinner party.

Never heard of this--but, as luck would have it, I already have plans with 4 other friends for that day, so we can just make it a Galentine's Day!

My husband will be out of town (on his yearly guys trip), so I’m meeting up with some friends and taking all our kids somewhere fun, then probably to Chic Fila bc it’s the kid’s favorite place. So I guess we are in a round about way... with the kids too!

While I really enjoy girls night out I would never choose to do it on Valentine’s Day. When my girlfriends and I get together we can talk for hours over dinner. So we need a day when restaurants are not rushing us out or serving special, over priced menus.

I don’t. Even if I did I wouldn’t want to go out on actual Valentine’s Day because everywhere is so busy already, especially if it’s on a weekend. I don’t like going out on that night to begin with, we tend to go out of our way to avoid crowds.

My youngest daughter has for the last 6 or 7 years. She has some friends that she gets donuts with and then they go to a movie and drink wine. She just told me that this year the friends she usually goes with have boyfriends and SHE actually has a date! Now I need to do some reconnaissance to find out about this guy. 😜

Nope. I feel like not enough people are buying stuff to celebrate Valentine’s Day so the retail industry invented another holiday.

Galentine’s Day is on February 13th. Thank you! I assumed it was the 14th. I’d heard of it but didn’t know it is on a different day. I always thought it was just a girlfriends thing when you don’t have a SO to celebrate actual Valentine’s Day with.

Our town library had a fun Galentine’s Day party last year. I went with one of my friends and we had a great time!

I don't really go Galentines per se, but I do try to reach out to friends who aren't in relationships so they don't feel lonely. Sometimes just a card, once I sent flowers to someone having a particularly rough time, and occasionally make plans to meet for drinks and/or dinner (usually not actually on the 13th or 14th though).

I had never heard of this before this post and went to google to find out what Galentines was.
By luck, 5 of us were getting together the afternoon of the 13th, so we are pretending we are really cool ladies to be in on a trendy even. hahah

Last year was the first I've heard of it. I've never participated. It sounds like a Girls Night out or in, but for Valentines day.

I’ve never heard of this before. I had to google it. What a strange concept. It’s interesting since so many are usually against the commercialization of everything and Hallmark holidays. February 13th is my ds’s birthday so we usually take him to dinner. I wonder if this is going to be a thing that day now.

We have given up on eating out on the days immediately preceding and after Valentine’s. It’s become a 4 day celebration. The restaurants here are packed, it is a set menu, the service isn’t as good as normal and it’s usually more expensive. I did have good luck taking him out to lunch last year on the 14th, but that isn’t always an option with his work.
