Hi all,
Going to New Zealand later this year for a week and since I'm on the airplane for oh so long from the states, I wondered about adding an additional destination in the area for another 4-5 days of touring. I know Australia is sort of the obvious choice, but I'm thinking it would be a future destination all in itself as there is so much to see. I also thought of Papeete or Bora Bora, but that is almost a full day of travel in and of itself from New Zealand. Any other ideas? Super open to either somewhere iconic to visit or even just an island beach destination to kick back for a few days since the New Zealand trip is pretty jammed packed with both low and high adventure.
Thanks in advance for your ideas and experience shares. Most appreciated!

Honestly, there’s so much to see and do in NZ I would stay there and travel around. We went for two weeks a few years ago and didn’t see nearly enough. We have plans to go back ASAP. It’s a beautiful country with the most amazing scenery and the people are so friendly and welcoming.

I did NZ, Australia and Fiji for 4 weeks. NZ was STUNNING!!! we were there 8 or 9 days and only did the South Island so you could easily spend more than a week in NZ itself. otherwise Australia or Fiji would be my recommendations.

So, you will have one week in NZ, then you're thinking of adding another 4-5 days on top of that? My first choice would be Australia, but if you're planning to come here on another trip, then I would choose Fiji or Vanuatu, both very popular. Mind you, you wouldn't run out of things to do and see in NZ for that whole time either.

I would also spend more time in a different part of NZ, the north and south islands are very different from each other and both amazing in their own right. An additional 4 or 5 days would let you see quite a bit that is not in your original itinerary.
If it's an island break you're looking for then I'd look at Fiji, Tonga, or Samoa.
