Hit me with your best tips? Yesterday I went to yoga and as soon as I went into my first down dog my head had so much pressure. I couldn't keep up during class but just modified as to not disrupt the class by leaving. My throat was a tiny bit scratchy but we had fome to dinner the night before and it felt like my food allergies kicking in. About halfway through I started crying and wasnt sure what that was all about but I've been working through some things and just figured I needed to cry/cleanse.
Last night about halfway through work I started fading fast. I was freezing and had a massive headache and my cough started. I cut it short and stopped for tylenol cold/flu and oscilloccinum on the way home.
Within an hour of symptoms really starting my fe er was 103 and it's been hovering at 101.7 with meds since my first dose last night.
Went to the urgent care today and they didnt even bother to swab, gave me a rx and sent me home for at least7 days.
I've got hot tea and the flu/sinus meds, motrin. Taking both commercial and homemade elderberry and I'm diffusing a shit ton of oils to keep the cough down.
Any tips? How long does this actually keep you down? If I could get the pressure in my head under control I would be ok but its relentless right now.
Am I going to throw up? I can't do that. Ugh.

I just had the flu. It was bad. And contrary to the Peas advice, I did not take enough days off of work. The first 2 days were rough, because I was restless and could not sleep. Then I got a little better and pushed myself too hard. And then I developed a secondary upper respiratory infection. My throat is STILL sore, and it’s been almost 3 weeks.
My advice—fluids, fluids and more fluids. And Netflix.

Yup. It kicked my ass. I passed out in the doctors office and couldn't drive home.
I took Tamiflu and slept for a couple of days. Like I would sit up in bed, watch 10 minutes of TV and fall back asleep
I used the vapo pads in my room and put cotton balls in my ears.
I went down either a Thursday or Friday night and was almost at 90% by that Monday and went to work.

I had flu A last week. Sunday I felt sore in the neck but assumed it was cleaning and moving boxes to the basement. Went to work on Monday and survived because I was able to sit down and grade assessments as they worked. I did keep my coat on all afternoon, but my room runs cold anyway. We had conferences that night and I didn't remember until 7 that I had taken advil at lunch so I didn't have a fever.
The chills hit Monday night and I just couldn't warm up.
Took Tuesday off and slept all day, and if you've read my insomnia thread then it was a sign of flu. My fever never really went above 100. 5.
Took Wednesday off and went to a minute clinic and tested positive. Took Thursday off and we were already off Friday-Monday. I went back Tuesday since I had a pd day.I couldn't have gone back before Tuesday. I was exhausted by Friday after a short week. I looked exhausted.
The cough is nasty. I'm still coughing.
I decline tamiflu since I was at the very end of the window and the dr. thought I'd probably feel worse since I was through most of the flu by then and never really felt awful, just tired.
It wasn't as horrible as I expected. I've felt much worse with strep, but with strep the meds help. Just have to wait the flu out.
You almost need at least a week to rest. I did not have a flu shot.

I've had several co-workers get it, plus I work in a hospital and I'm around it all day. It basically lasts a good wk. And then after that you stil have coughing, and congestion, but you start to feel half way human in a wk. good luck!!! ugh

Last Sunday, I felt like I was coming down with a bad cold. Ditto Monday. I worked all day Tuesday and felt worse as the day went by. Left work and went to the little clinic. I felt like I’d been run over by a truck. I was swabbed for flu and it came back as type A. I had the vaccine and because of this, the NP said it should run its course in 5 days, which it did. I didn’t get Tamiflu as I was past the 48 hours.
I went home and basically slept the next 3 days. Took cold/flu meds, stayed hydrated and ate when hungry, simple comfort foods. Treated the symptoms but rested all day long and did nothing else.
By yesterday, I still felt a bit sniffly with a bit of a cough but was about 90% better. Which is good as o had plans with my college aged daughter to go visit her 3 hours away for the weekend to find her an apartment!
Drink fluids. Drink even when you don’t think you’re thirsty. Eat if you’re hungry. Staying hydrated is the most important thing. Treat your symptoms and rest, rest, rest. Do nothing but sleep and rest. Your body needs it. Tell others to stay away as you’re contagious.
I hope you feel better soon!

DH started feeling a little sick last Friday. By Saturday morning, we had cancelled our plans for that night because both he and DD were feeling lousy. He had a bad cough, horrible congestion, fever, chills, couldn’t sleep. DD mostly just had a high fever (101.5-102.9) and a cough and headache. I figured hers might be more of a sinus thing, but we did an online dr visit and he said it was consistent with flu. Since it had already been three days, it was too far along for Tamiflu so at that point all you can do is ride it out. DH was down through about Tuesday (five full days) and was still dragging a little on Wed-Thurs. DD had Monday off school for conferences but missed the whole rest of the week. Yesterday was the first day all week her temperature in the morning was borderline (100.5) but she was still dragging so I kept her home to rest for one more day. I was dragging a little myself on Sunday, but since everyone else was sick we just had a do-nothing day at home in front of the tv and I slept a good chunk of the day in my chair.

Not this year, but the year I first moved to Connecticut. If you’ve missed the cutoff for the tamiflu stuff, you’re in for a long rough ride. Rest. Fluids. Get people to look after you. Hope you feel better soon.

Hi, Can I ask question for those that have gotten the flu? Did you have your flu shot? Thanks for answering.

I was just diagnosed this morning with influenza type a. I’m taking the tamiflu so we’ll see if that helps, the doctor said it would only reduce it by a day. I feel like crap, I have a horrible cough, my throat hurts, and I have a fever. I’m concentrating on fluids and rest. And no, I did not have the flu shot.

I had the flu a few years ago. It came on in a matter of hours, but it took me a day to figure out it was the flu because I tend to run fevers off and on with sinus issues. DH drug me to the ER where my fever broke while we were waiting to be seen. So no Tamiflu.
I sequestered myself in the master bedroom for three days hoping that no one else would get sick. It worked and I was the only one on the house sick. I can’t get a flu shot anymore because of a bad reaction about 10 years ago, so I’m really careful with not touching my face and washing my hands constantly.
It took a good 8-10 days before I was back to my regular energy level and daily schedule.

I have had the flu shot (so have Dh and our 2 kids) since DD was little and diagnosed with a compromised immune system. I've still had the flu 2x even with the shot, but the dr. said it would have been much worse without the shot. I can't even imagine it being worse because I was down and in bed at least 2 weeks both times. I seriously thought I was dying I hurt so bad and ran a 104 fever for 5 days. Ugh! Prayers for all of you feeling ill! I've been taking airborne and elderberry to help. Last year and the year before, no flu, but I had pneumonia.

I had the flu this week, type A and did have the vaccine in the fall.
The vaccine this year didn’t cover type A very well but I was told by the NP where I was diagnosed that since I’d had the vaccine that it wouldn’t last as long as normal and she was right. By day 5, I felt way better. Today is day 6 and I have a few sniffles and a little cough but I’m fine.
This year is the first time in over 30 years that I’ve gotten the flu. I’ve been getting the vaccine all those years and didn’t get it despite my family getting the flu and working in the hospital where the flu runs rampant.

Looking back I probably had some signs a few days ago. I started 530a workouts and on wed/thurs I needed a nap.so bad but was straight up zonked out for hours.
I couldn't believe how fast I faded last night. Dh had to drove me home and I couldn't stop shaking the whole way home. I couldn't even get warm in the bathtub. Aside for the 45 mins at the dr today I havrmt been off the couch.
They gave me something that is a one dose med but it was sold out at every pharmacy in town so they went with Tamiflu.
The cough is wretched but I would be so much better if I could just warm up. DH won't stay away so I'm hoping he doesnt get it.
I had the flu shot in the fall :/

I had it 3 years ago in late May. Knocked me for a loop. I was so sick. Three nights of temps of 103. I would take 4 ice packs ( the good ones, blue gel filled with fleece covers,
I couldn’t eat, barely moved chair to bed.
It sucks, I have never missed my flu shot since....

Had a flu shot. Guess I ended up with a different strain.
Sore throat Friday. Sick Saturday. Missed the entire following week of work. I don’t even remember much of that week. I froze the entire time. It’s 3 weeks past and I am still freezing cold.
Anyway, by day 11, The cough was horrendous. Dx: Bronchitis. Antibiotic and cough med that was useless.
Friday was 3 weeks, I am still not feeling well. My ears hurt. Freezing cold. Cough. Headache.

What’s helped me in the past: - Drink a ton and pee a ton. I know this isn’t how viruses work, but I feel like I pee out the illness, ha. I’m sure it does get toxins out of your body and the extra liquid helps. - Sleep as much as you can. Sleep and sweating really do help break the fever.

I slept for 23 hours and only peed once. Because my life is fabulous I also started my period yesterday. Today is usually a super heavy flow day and that has way slowed down too. So weird. I drank a 32 oz. Gatorade, hot tea, and a cold buster from starbucks. I'm assuming om swearing it all out or I'll be up all night running to the bathroom

We got the flu shot and still got the flu, a strain that wasn’t covered by the shot.
I felt fine one minute, then horrible with a few more minutes. Fever, aches, no energy whatsoever. I ended up sleeping a lot over the course of a week almost. I had no energy to eat but really focused on drinking water, juice and an occasional smoothie.
I hope you feel better soon!

I have the flu right now and it sucks. Yes, I got my flu shot. I’ll say this... the last time I had the flu was 18 years ago and the next flu season was when I started getting flu shots. This is time is bad but not as bad as before.
I haven’t left my bed in 2 1/2 days.

Here I am 3 weeks into my flu journey—and I am STILL not feeling great. First week—flu—fever, headache, sore throat, body aches, exhaustion. Second week—upper respiratory CRAP, HORRIBLE cough and crazy amounts of green stuff coming from my nose and chest. Week 3–the worst constipation I have ever had (see my delightful thread on that)—which I am convinced happened because I got dehydrated and because of all the meds I was taking.
The flu can go suck it!

My grandson got the flu a few weeks ago. His temp spiked to 105+ immediately. His pediatrician started him right away on Tamiflu and meds every 4 hours and his temp never went about 101 after that.
I've had the vaccine but if I get the flu I'm def going to ask for Tamiflu.

I'm on day 3 and my fever broke. Cough is wretched and I'm still super sleepy but I coudlnt sleep at all last night. I can literally smell the meds coming from my pores and taste super metallic and cant get it to go away. Yuck.
Working from bed today after a hot bath, I could t stay warm Friday night even in the hottest water I could fill the tub with so I'm thrilled to be semi-warm again.
This headache wont stop and I just hurt everywhere still. It feels like I'm stiff from laying around but I regret it as soon as I try to get up.
