Wow, it’s getting real.
No viruses within a hundred miles of us. Looks like they are trying to keep it that way, if they can. Things shutting down left and right. Opening Day parade, color runs, etc.
So many people complaining on FB. I’m happy to have my babies home with me, hopefully not exposed to anything.

I'm kind of feeling like Friday might be my last day of work for a while. I'm expecting the word soon.

That’s a long time! I worry so much about the trickle effects of this. What about working parents? Kids who got their main source of nutrition at school?

They said kids on free or reduced lunch could come by and pickup meals. As for working parents, I’ve seen more than several posts of teenage girls offering babysitting services. They will be expected to complete online homework. I’m glad it’s being taken seriously.

Our archdiocese canceled all classes through March 25th. Kids have complete online work daily and if they aren’t going to doing school work they are supposed to email the teacher that they are “absent” and won’t be completing the work

My entire family's schools (two colleges, three schools) are doing remote learning after spring break. Some of us are "until further notice," and others are remote learning for the rest of the semester. This article in Science Magazine made me feel like closing schools is indeed the most responsible thing to do. For working parents, it just stinks - no way around it. Many people are working remotely, but working from home does NOT equal being available to supervise your children's online learning! For those who rely on school for meals, I know many public and charter schools are planning meal stations where families can pick up breakfast/lunch to bring home. That's still less exposure than having everyone come to school. I just wish the mayor would close NYC public schools before it's too late.

Kentucky. So far there has only been a handful of confirmed cases in our entire state. Thank goodness.

Wow! That is pretty crazy. We will do whatever we have to do, but, as I have a Senior this year I will super sad to see his last year end this way! I really want the whole graduation experience for him. He has worked so hard. My mom is also supposed to be starting an elective radiation treatment next month for her cancer. I am praying they won’t delay that.
The whole situation sucks!

My local school district is closed starting tomorrow and stated they have a plan for lunches and that they would be offering childcare services for parents that had essential jobs like medical things and parents that had to go to work.

Me step-son teaches at Jones Middle in Florence, KY and told us last night he will be teaching at the school, but the students will be at home. To go meals can be made for pick up.

For those with schools closing, where do you live? Seattle Public Schools are closed and on the eastside of Seattle - Bellevue, Lake Washington, North Shore, Mercer Island are all closed. A little further north east of Seattle Monroe school district is closed too * The city of Kirkland is where the Life Care center is with the majority of the fatalities. Kirkland is served by the Lake Washington School district.

Our district just announced they are cancelling all classes, activities and events until March 30th. Thankfully that's only 2 days of classes because of spring break & 3 staff development days.

No closures in my district. But they did put up a statement that teachers who are coughing, have a fever or are having shortness of breath will be required to stay home for 14 days and can only return w/a note from a doctor.
Which makes me wonder...do we have any teachers who AREN'T coughing right now? Most of the teachers I know have a cough from November through April - myself included. So if every single one of those teachers ends up out for 14 days, who exactly is going to be teaching the students?

I’m in the DFW area. DH is a public school teacher.
Today was their last school day before Spring Break. They were called into a meeting after school and told to take home their laptops, lesson plans, teacher manuals, certain books, and personal belongings. They were told to prepare for school to be closed the two weeks after Spring Break.

I am in PA as well and our school district is not closed (3rd largest in the state). I will say the county next to our IS closed - schools, gyms, colleges, etc. Today they announced no after school activites and cancelled spring sports until mid-April. I was at the grocery today and it was horrible. No cleansers left, detergent almost gone, only pasta left was whole wheat, soups limited, etc. And the lines were crazy long. Take precautions people and everyone will be fine! I totally agree with closures, etc.
Just got the message our schools are closed now - literally as I am typing.

We just got notified that we are on early dismissal tomorrow. I'm suspecting a message soon saying that the schools will be closed next week. We've been getting regular emails saying they are preparing for remote teaching. We'll see what happens. (I'm located in Central Jersey).

We have spring break next week. I don’t think my superintendent will make a decision until late next week about whether we’ll stay out longer...

I volunteered in an elementary school today. The teachers were all going over how to get the lessons electronically if needed. They were told that it could be by Monday, but that they were getting new information every 15 minutes and no one knew yet what to expect.
