I heard this tonight on the news. It makes sense to me.
The health community is not worried about people so much dying from this. Their concern is that it is so contagious that many will get it and overwhelm the health system (hospitals, immediate care, etc).
If that happens then the health workers will end up in quarantine so no one will be able to help the sick.
This helped me to better understand it.
There is a hospital here in Chicago that has created an emergency entrance for these potential cases. They have tents and equipment all ready to accept at least 40 people at a time. They can filter the air within this area. They also have other pods within the hospital that can be used.

Unfortunately more will die, because there will not be enough respirators and/or ICU beds for those who need them, including those with other health issues, like heart attacks, strokes, ordinary pneumonia etc. Italy is already having to make choices on who has a better chance to live. There is also a much longer recovery for many. Some are hospitalized 5-6-7 weeks.

Yes, I think I read 20% end up on ventilators for multiple weeks and that many people would completely overwhelm our hospitals. I’m not especially worried about dying from it, I am worried about my kids with asthma being on ventilators for 3+ weeks, etc.

And this is what has happened in Italy. Too many people coming down with it all at the same time. Italy's health service is very good under normal circumstances but no country has the equipment or the staff, however good their health service is, to cope with such an influx of patients en masse.
